I do not blame the Liberals for not wanting to let David Orchard run. If I remember correctly Mr. Orchard is pretty much always wrong about pretty much everything. I think I can remember Orchardian rants about how free trade would see us being American citizens in a couple of years from twenty five years ago and how the GST would ruin our economy. Orchard does not want to work for a living at a real job and will work day and night to avoid having to work.
Notwithstanding the fact that Orchard is demonstrably wrong about just about everything just about all the time, he seems to have a talent for organizing support and, more importantly the ability to deliver that support at crucial times. You cannot accuse the Liberals of having any morals but they know a “good producer” when they see one be it people from the “special religion” urging people not to vote for Rae because one of his wives was Jewish to David Orchard who apparently helped Step-On De-Yawn win the Liberal leadership.
So what will Orchard and the Liberals do? I am guessing that the new (federal Liberal funded) leader of the Saskatchewan provincial liberal party will be David Orchard. Expect to see Orchard running the visitors gallery with the ghost of David Karwacki.
Orchard supports Beatty, Ralph support Orchard. Morals, ethics and credibility all down the crapper, but hey, what did the Liberals have to lose?
I’m surprised Orchard has not yet gone where he’d be truly welcome and at home…in the Canadian Action Party.
In the past CAP has had leaders who were worried about Bush starting a war with extra terrestials and Tegan coming after Canada’s public health system….why not a new leader that believes national sovereignty and climate doom can be achieved through government subsidized organic farming?
When it comes to the Orchard Davidians, smart politicians know to say “no”.
Dion isn’t a smart politician.
David Orchard has a small but dedicated following. He wants to be influential. He is basically a petty nationalist. I met him when he started out, during the founding days of teh Council of Canadians and he worked his butt off and spoke all over the country. He built up his dedicated network thenm and it still works for him. I am surprised. He should stand as an independant somewhere.
What’s up with liberals sucking up every available ndpeer to run for them? This is becoming common way of selecting their candidates. To that crowd, the general population is just too dumb to select for themselves, the Übermensch knows better.
Of course it is their common socialist road forward to sunny socialist future.
Wimpy Cdn said, “He should stand as an independant somewhere.”
Somewhere, maybe, where his support is concentrated and he won’t need to depend on the party label. I’d submit that isn’t Saskatchewan. He’s the butt of jokes, not the example of integrity, here.
Dion was a fool for openly embracing David Orchard and now the entire Liberal party is reaping the benefit.
Oops.
Cheers,
lance
lev…it’s a “unite the left” movement but shh…we aren’t supposed to know they have a hidden agenda.
Bluetech,
I understand now, I’m locking my keyboard up. Heh
I can’t believe anyone in their right mind would ever vote for Orchard. Kate, I love the poltergeist analogy!!
I understand from comments elsewhere that Ms. Beatty is not actually campaigning, and that the only campaign signs belong to the Tory candidate in the riding. Can anyone else confirm this ?
I love it when the Natives use their Superior analog “minds”, we the digital heathens simply can’t understand why our complex reasoning is fatally flawed.
A roofer knows more about his tools than the “Educationally Challenged” Global warming group.
Here are my thoughts that I posted to the comments section of this G&M article:
All of the Conservatives and Dippers out there should take a moment and think about the old adage: ‘Don’t throw stones in glass houses’. Every single current leader of federal parties in Canada have shown a willingness to use the appointment powers they have to circumvent local nomination processes either preemptively or retroactively. Nobody’s hands are clean when it comes to this issue.
I would also note that it is a bit strange that the Globe and Mail is reporting this story as if the actual riding association is rebelling. That is just not factually accurate. Chief Head is NOT the President of the riding association. He, along with a group of Orchard supporters and a large number of non-residents of the riding, got together a couple weeks ago and formed their own ‘provisional riding association’ which has exactly the same legitimacy under the Liberal Party’s constitution as if me and some buddies got together for a pint at Darcy’s and declared ourselves the executive for the riding association of Ottawa-Centre. It is a little disappointing that the G&M would write the article without properly explaining the grandstanding going on by this group for what it is.
Grandstanding? Maybe, but they’re driving home their point. It was a pretty blatant move by both the Liberals and the candidate who had just won for the Provincial NDP. One would have to be pretty out of the loop to vote for a person who has such a short attention span and no consideration for the people who voted to give her a seat in the Legislature of the province.
There should be no way that person, Joan Beatty , should be rewarded for such behavior. The Liberals have gone to a lower plane, putting gender and race ahead of the peoples rights through democratic process.

On being “yaffied”
The Vancouver Sun published today an edited version of Marjaleena Repo’s response to Sun columnist Barbara Yaffe’s “Maverick Orchard finds new party to tangle with.” Yaffe calls Orchard an “organic produce businessman” (and not a farmer!), a “social conservative,” an “oddball,” a “nuisance” and more. You’ll find Repo’s unedited version, “On being ‘yaffied'” here and what the Sun published, “Shafting by Yaffe based on factoids, canards” here:
‘Barbare Yaffe… coins a new term, “orcharded,” to describe the shafting of an individual. I’m now coining another term for the very same phenomenon, and that is being “yaffied.” It means a person being shafted by someone who writes about them without knowing the first thing about them and is willing to invent facts to fit their personal prejudices and fantasies.’ continued…

Maz, Yaffe has been writing for eons on topics about which she knows nothing.
