  1. Kate, He’s nicer than the buck I got…with my truck last week…….I hate getting them that way, your way is better! Good shooting girl!

  2. Before anyone gets too congratulatory, I did not shoot this one. (I did hit a doe the first morning, but she eluded us despite 3 hours of tracking.)
But as far as this buck goes – I pushed about 10 miles of bush over 2 days, had it in my sights at one point but held off as I didn’t have a clear line of fire, and helped drag the SOB out of the bush. And it wears my tag. I think I earned the right to claim at least part of the credit. 🙂

  3. The look on that deer’s face is familiar …….oh yeah Lorne Calvert. Excellent metaphor for the political landscape …..except the deer should be wearing the red suit.
    Many more good shots Kate.

  4. Nice fashion statement. You probably have those flatlander lads drooling with that red skidoo suit 😉
Seriously, since that buck probably doesn’t do auto body work, I’m sure he will be of more use on the dinner table.

  5. He’s giving me the evil eye … there’s a UFO in the top right of the picture … what red toque?

  6. Ah Kate – you are my husband”s fantasy wife!! I just cannot live up to the standards you have set.

  7. Deer jerky! Yumm. Great job Kate, never let it be said that it’s all about the kill, I’ve pushed bush and had a heck of a time without firing a shot. (yes I know my name is Hunter, but last time I tried hunting I landed on my butt, and I can still see the rifle’s recoil mark in my shoulder 20 years later.)
You are breaking ground for us females. It’s now cool to hunt, kill your own food, and wear red, supporting our troops, all in one fell swoop! (Now if my brother would have just told me to hold the gun TIGHT to my shoulder, I might try hunting again.)

  8. I question the timing . Mine was Wednesday morning 8:15 ish , narrower , but taller . And yes is sucks having to drag them back to the truck ( damn near a thousand yards , in my case ). Nice deer , good job . Next season , teach Shaidle how to gut one …. don’t let her shoot one , unless , of course it’s breaking into her house .

  9. That would be “payback” for … what, the deer turds on your front lawn? C’mon kate, you jacker of deer, payback for what?

  10. Now, now. To be a fantasy wife you have to gut, hang, skin and de-bone that sucker. Extra points for having a sausage grinder and a supply of tubes on hand.
Nice typical rack on that one. You’ve made a dozen animal activists across the country faint, Kate. 🙂

  11. A. Cooper: “To be a fantasy wife you have to …”
I’m assuming that you left out the part about her helping you finish a crock of whiskey and throwing the empty bottle into the gut pile because, it’s like, a given tradition.

  12. Rudolf is a Reindeer.
Reindeer however are “OUT OF SEASON”!!!
Christmas preparations are under way, so check your fire!
    BTW nice Christmas suit.

ural , the first rule of hunt club …..

  14. Great shot – goes good with toppling the NDP!
BRAVO!! CHEERS!! AND HAPPY YANKEE THANKSGIVING!!

  15. Better looking than the doe that ran out in front of me tonight. There’s so many around here they’ve grazed the woods bare, and they’re starting to get kinda scrawny.

  16. Better to get them before they get you. I used to work with a girl who went berserk when one of the guys on our crew aimed for and hit a gopher. Everyone one defended him and had multiple stories about the damage they do to livestock and people. Didn’t make a difference, she quit soon after.

  17. Here we go again, glorifying the death of animals…
Am I the only conservative leaning person who thinks this is ridiculous and just a bit old fashioned?

  18. Nice one guys!
Yum, oh boy, just love deer roast.
Tonight we had rain deer in the fondue, and the shrimp were the dessert.
Done in peanut oil, the meat (just cubed) is very tasty and the shrimp well, it’s just so good.
Sort of my bastardized version of ‘surf & turf’.
    😉
Be interesting to try moose meat, this way.

  19. And to follow on from my previous post…
Can someone explain to me what glory there is in celebrating the killing of an animal? I just don’t get it.
I’m happy to put a good steak on the grill, but at the same time I don’t prance around celebrating the fact that some poor cow lost his life in the process.
To each his own I suppose, but I’ve never understood this notion that killing an animal could make someone beam with pride.
Lived in Africa years ago, and Americans and Germans used to come along and think it was cool to poach lions, elephants, etc. It seemed so utterly absurd to kill those magnificent animals just so that some man could get a high and feel he was important.

  20. Very nice Kate.
I regret that I’ve never been hunting yet.
As to the glorifying the death of animals, this is just as beautiful and natural as the hunting done by native Canadians or native Americans. Our hunting culture needs to be respected as well.

  21. TJ, No cow ever lost “his” life in any process. As for the deer, if somebody doesn’t shoot some of them we’ll soon be overrun by the little buggers. They’re the best speed cops ever, at least at night. Around here, between the deer and the moose it’s worth your life to drive too fast after dark.
Wonder what that rack would look like on the gopher.

  22. Er, TJ: being “old fashioned” kinda IS the very definition of conservative…
And I doubt even the krauts you encountered ATE those elephants, although I wouldn’t put it past the buggers.

No you’re just liberalized and out of touch with your inner self.
    tsk tsk.
