Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
Love the smile on your face. That’s what happiness looks like.
Bragging about the unnecessary killing of innocent animals is a bit depressing, obviously showing a slight decline in evolution.I hope you are aware that the cruelty exhibited by chretiens kind is spreading.
If you don’t soon start showing a respect for living life you aren’t going to like what the little (now) kids will be doing to you, once they reach the age of freedom, with only the youthful memories of taser, shoot, beat, intolerance, pepper spray. It always amazed me how the critics of the hitler types, showed the same signs and naturally pass it on to their kids.
Imagine!,just the other day,a celebrated picture of a obviouly failed primeminister, and failed human, with his chokehold image proudly displayed across canada.
Exactly, the bear. The sad fact is, many so-called Canadian conservatives are really just liberals who want lower taxes. They really have no feel for the culture of conservativism. They think being anti-Political Correctness is enough of a qualification, when all that indicates is that they aren’t totally brain dead.
Its called DIVERSITY, TJ. See, not -everyone- shares your feelings about shooting animals. Some people -like- hunting.
Be a little more celebrational with the diversity thing there eh? We might have to call the CHRC and have them ban you from the internet.
nice truck – wouldn’t be for sale by chance?
I used to do a little hunting (just partridge)when I was a kid. I loved “the hunt” but never cared too much about “the killing” or the eating (what little I’ve tasted of game is too gamey for my tastes).
I think the hunt evokes long lost primal hunting instincts and the killing evokes other primal instincts.
TJ, this is the way of life on this planet. There are predators and there are prey. The prey consume the vegetation and breed a lot…and the predators hunt and kill the prey. If it weren’t for a human with a rifle, the deer would be hunted by wolves…or by Chevrolets…or slowly die of nalnutrition…or, likely rarely, live in a utopian dream existence.
You don’t have to like it…but, to each his/her own, though, eh? I can’t understand why anyone would waste their time listening to RAP…you can’t understand why people hunt. You need to be more “tolerant”, son. 😉
A Cooper: “To be a fantasy wife you have to gut, hang, skin and de-bone that sucker…”
Isn’t this what Kate does to the disloyal Opposition in this country day after day? The buck’s a nice trophy, but Kate’s catching the Dippers and Libranos in the headlights is even more deserving of credit, IMO.
Either way, Kate’s a force to be reckoned with!
Bon Appetit, Kate!
Tj the deer at least had a chance to elude the hunters and most likely was killed instantly.Have you ever been to a kill floor of a meat processing plant for pork and beef.If not go to one and ill bet you will end up a vegatarian lol.I can tell you if you would like to know how they die and it isnt instantly.Kate what was the dressed weight of your deer.
Just to make it a little interesting give deer guns so they can shoot back. Then I’m not sure that smile would be quite so wide.
I realize that deer would die of starvation or vehicular mishaps.
It’s just the look on deer hunters faces after taking a life that gets me…No bravery, no skills, shoot a defenseless animal then stupid bravado…tracked it for 10 miles…gimme a break!
Ural,
Gut pile? That’s left in the field for the magpies. Besides, no such discerning tastes here; a case of Pilsner, properly chilled, would suffice.
BATB,
Agreed. Wouldn’t want to be caught in our host’s sights in either case.
Good grief. I (and others here) could try to explain that hunting is a right of passage in some families; that it is a tradition handed down like an heirloom; that to some of our granparents generation, it was the only meat to make the dinner table at all. But most of you squeemish quislings have never even held a rifle in your hand, and think that meat in it’s natural form comes from a styrofoam tray.
By all means, let’s give the deer guns. We can then change the name from “hunting” to “a Toronto Saturday night”.
Liberal Ron,
You may want to take a look at your leather shoes, jacket and belt and explain the situation to me again!
Can you post anther picture with the deer AND the gun ?
“It’s just the look on deer hunters faces after taking a life that gets me…No bravery, no skills, shoot a defenseless animal then stupid bravado…tracked it for 10 miles…gimme a break!”
Baby……
Security
“defenceless” ?
umm…..they have legs you know.
HEY LIEBERAL RON,read my first post.
HEY LIEBERAL RON,read my first post.
Cherie,
You can do better than that.
My jacket is canvas, belt is pleather and shoes are rubber/composite.
Unlike some of you, my work as a refrigeration engineer has taken me to the kill floor of many abatoirs. Believe me, nobody is smiling and I doubt if much pleasure is derived from the process.
BTW, I don’t eat red meat…the only reson being is it impacts the colon and is not necessary for a healthy long life. When friends or family come over I’ll gladly BBQ steaks and chops for them.
“Just to make it a little interesting give deer guns so they can shoot back. Then I’m not sure that smile would be quite so wide.”
No,the smiles would be grim, and we’d organize something we like to call “war”.
We’d exterminate the dangerous pests.

Santa Kate! I like the look.
Want some Venison recipes?
Congrats…nice 4pointer…is this the first?
Ralph,
Which one? I’m seeing double.
Kate,
You’re welcome to come out to my strawberry farm any time and shoot all the deer you want. We’re overrun with them, and they’re chomping away at my plants like there’s no tomorrow.
BTW Sorry about the missed Doe…it really hurts to have an animal get away ..particularly a wounded one…tears your heart out…enforces the importance of a one shot kill….either more gun, closer shots or a better scope.
No missed shot next year..Ya hear! 😉
Whoa, looks like winter up there; doncha have any global warming in the ‘hood?
TJ: The only “American” I know that went to Africa to shoot animals was a Catholic priest from Connecticut, who stayed on there for better than thirty years tending to the souls (and hungry bellies) of his parishioners.
Seems TJ needs a few weeks out on Uncle Ted (Nugent’s) farm to “man-up” …frick, don’t you think this whiney, feminized sensitive 90s guy BS is a tad passe’?
We’re over run with white tails most places in Saskatchewan – they’re like jackrabbits. We were down in the southeast, and probably saw upwards of 20 that day in the 3 square mile area. Most of them running. If you think it’s easy to sneak up on a white tail through stubble, thick bush and deadfall, you ought to try it sometime. I got 5 shots away in two days, my hunting partner 7. Two bucks to show for it.
But trust the bleeding hearts to see someone “glorifying” the killing of a “defenseless” animal, or (and this is a new one) – sniff that someone should “give the deer a gun”. Sure, give the deer a gun. If he can get his little hooves inside the trigger guard, more power to him.
I see someone celebrating hard work, skill, and meat on the table. And this particular buck saw a more humane ending than any of the 50 or so carcasses in the ditch south of Saskatoon.
HEY LIBERAL RON. I don’t care. Give deer all the rifles they want. They don’t have opposable thumbs so they couldn’t even load the rifles let alone shoot them. You lefties are hilarious.
Oh Yeah. And congrats to Dianna, the Huntress.
I think Liberal Ron led a sheltered existence and compensates with a form of fraudulent moral exhibitionism that hides his phobias ( you kanow what Freud said about fear of guns)…typical maladjusted twink…too many interesting and real people in the world to talk about other than some xenophobe wallowing in self validation therapies…on to someone interesting….
>>>so Kate…how far was the shot on that buck?, what cartridge was the rifle chambered for? and how much usable meat did you lose in the wound channel?
Be weel slow an sneak up on dat waskally wabbit… /appologies to Mr. Fudd/
Defenceless animals? Ever do a tree dance with a buck during rut? I have and he didn’t look to defenceless to me then. But I did manage to get off a shot or two but my Nikon 35mm didn’t seem to scare him off.
The smile with your catch is the pride of accomplishment, part of the old culture of putting food on one’s table. contrairy to popular belief, the critters don’t just stand there all lined up waiting for hunters. Heck, i’ve seen elk move on to National Park land when hunting season starts down by Waterton.
btw, I don’t consider hunting for trophys real hunting unless you can eat it or it is trying to kill you. As for eating an elephant, probably not because I’d more than likely hurt myself putting it on the BBQ.
Those who feel it’s wrong to glorify success at hunting will, I trust, also scream loudly at sports celebrities who boast of their achievements, actors/actresses who win Oscars, Emmys, Obies, etc., politicians who get elected, garbage collectors who manage to get the trash into their trucks – in fact, anyone who achieves success of any kind.
It’s not about glorifying animal death – it’s about having embarked on a successful hunt.
And, deer are becoming a REAL nuisance. I grew up in the Rochester, NY area – where all of Bambi’s millions of grandsons/granddaughters are roaming in the suburbs. They eat the bushes next to your front door, wander into your garage, fall in pools, run in front of cars (killing people all too often) – all because **hunters** are an endangered species, thanks to folks who fail to understand that it’s OK to keep animal populations under control – especially when we’ve done away with natural predators; wolves, bears, etc.
Kate – nicely done!!! Enjoy (yum yum!)
Kate: “…over run with white tails…”
Ditto that.
The bleeding hearts can be ignorant hippocrits sometimes.
A couple of years ago, on New Years Day, I was laying in bed with a nasty cold. I heard the unique, chattering howl of a loaded 18-wheeler with the brakes locked up, followed a few minutes later by my wife telling me a big deer just hobbled through the yard on 3 legs. (We live a few hundred yards from the highway)
What does an insensitive conservative do? Haul my ass out of bed, dress, gather up the .303, track the thing through the fields and bush and put it out of its misery.
With the thanks, I might add, of the provincial game wardens.
And I haven’t hunted in years.
Every deer a hunter takes around here is one less damaged car or killed/hurt driver.
I will also not apologize for being a member of the dominant species on this planet. I like it that way.
Hunters are by far the most responsible wardens of our natural environment. The loss of this traditional sport will cause a lot more damage to both the deer and us. Utopians need to understand that.
Nice buck Kate. Saskatchewan farmland whitey. Now them’s good eating.
Back when I lived in Southwestern Saskatchewan I hunted on a friend’s land. He had so many whitetails there that they lined up with the cattle to eat silage out of the troughs. They were devastating his bale stacks, and costing him money. The government issued him depredation tags, and a buddy and I scored 4 of them. Those, along with our two general tags were duly filled that fall. My wife and I were newly married, and didn’t have the proverbial pot or window. But we had lots of meat, and we did not starve. To this day, when my wife sees me bring a deer or an elk home, she is happy that she married a provider who is not afraid to get his hands dirty.
And yeah, I feel good because of it. No apologies. You can’t understand it if you don’t understand it. I’m guessing that slipping out for a couple of late night to go lattes doesn’t quite compare.
“Just to make it a little interesting give deer guns so they can shoot back.”
We tried to give the Liberals guns, but they don’t want them. Which means that it’s actually more challenging to hunt deer.
Nicely said Karl,
There is pride at being a provider, pride of accomplishment, and pride of self.
No one can take that away unless you let them.
But wearing pleather, like Liberal Ron, man the carbon imprint and environmental damage caused by such a fashion statement. That is so liberal.
Oops. Remind me never to accidentally stroll through the woods near you
😉
Security why are you here, I think you would be happier somewhere else celebrating trangendered diversity at a peta website?
WL Mackenzie Retread,
I think if our posts were both evaluated by an independent panel (non SDA sock puppet conbats). They would conclude that your posts are the ones that are xenophobic in nature.
Carry on though, your foot-in-mouth ramblings are both entertaining and revealing.
“conbats”
Heh. Proof once again that leftards have zero imagination. And their feeble minded attempts to insult make no sense whatsoever.
The ‘Liberal’ part of Ron’s chosen moniker is already a pejorative and hardly needs further insult.
Cherie,
Pride is one of the seven deadly sins.
Do you really think taking life should fill one with pride?
What about, thou shalt not kill.
True enough.
In the Netherlands, hunting is normally illegal, but it was (still is?) legal right now to hunt for wild hogs. They’re out of control. I believe there’s place, in a certain part, for 500 of them, there are 5,000.
They’re destroying everything.
So Dutch hunters are allowed to shoot 90% of them, for if they (we) don’t, they’ll ruin nature and push other animals into extinction.
For those who wonder: most hunters are actually more fond of nature than most non-hunters who cry when an animal gets shot.
Irwin,
No insult intended, but interesting to see that you relate to it.

“Hell, no. I had a Savage 30-30 bolt action,…”
Nice firearm. Accurate, low recoil, very effective to 150 yards, unless you strech that with handloads.
Damn. You wouldn’t believe how long I have been waiting to find a good used Savage bolt 30-30 on the used market around here. Fine, rifle in my favorite cartridge. People who have them tend to hold on to them.
Sold off my deer rifles when I had to give up the hunt, but held on to my Winchester Centennial Model 94 in 30 WCF. Still want (need?!?) that Savage though… 🙂
Nice finish to the hunt. Congrats.
Deer around here are absolutely destroying the yard, cleaning out the bird feeders every night, and hoovering up the recently planted winter wheat in the south and east fields. Last night there were 12 in the yard. We need an intensive doe season here. Auto-deer accidents are epidemic in this county the last 5 years. Contrary to local reports the wolf population hasn’t began to dent the whitetail numbers.
“Pleather”. Ya, right, L. Ron. And Kate’s deer was actually made of tofu. Caught being hypocritical, eh?
Far be it for me to interperet scripture and the ten commandments, lib ron, but I do believe “What about, thou shalt not kill.” doesn’t refer to the future food on your plate, gophers, mosquitos, rats, cockroaches and the like. Remember tofu was once a living thing (sort of).
“What about, thou shalt not kill.”
I assume you are referring to the Sixth Commandment (Exodus 20:13) as rendered in the King James Version. The Hebrew word should more accurately be translated “murder”, and is in most recent translations, e.g.
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2020:13;&version=51;
“Thou shalt not kill.” Is there anyone who believes that what they meant is “thou shalt not kill animals”?
Have you even read the Old Testament? They sacrificed animals for God. They hunted. That’s how they got their meat.
Thou shalt not kill means: “Thou shalt not murder a human being.”
Lib Ron, I can not thank you enough for helping state my point.
“There is pride at being a provider, pride of accomplishment, and pride of self. No one can take that away unless you let them.”
The old church that created the Seven Deadly sins, used those sins to stop freedom of thought. They wanted people to only fear the church and its teachings. They taught pride was a sin, so the church would remain powerful.
…things you see without a bazooka…
Joseph Campbell said that vegetarians were people who liked to eat things that couldn’t run from them.
Nice buck. It was hard to tell, but it looked like 6 or 8 points.
