Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

The second last paragraph of John Ibbitson’s Globe and Mail column about yesterday’s shenanigans (sp)
“The Liberals have the judges, the academics, the journalists, the artists, the social activists. The Conservatives have Bay Street and what used to be called the little guy. It’s not even a fair fight.”
Doubt Dion has the power to crack the whip with his performance as leader so far. If the Party members feel strongly about keeping the Terrorism Bill in place they can revolt, stand on their ‘principles’, if they have any, that is.
For them to play games with something so crucial to our safety and security as a Nation to merely make a false statement that they are “UNITED” would be the ultimate sham, even for Liberals.
They sure made a spectacle of themselves yesterday with an over the top display in QP. As usual Goodale was before the TV cameras with all his
righteous indignation hanging out.
In a word, pathetic.
What will really be interesting is seeing if Navdeep Bains shows up to vote the party line. In my opinion is that this would create a huge conflict of interest. Voting to shut down the Air India probe to protect a family member!
So much for Dion doing things differently.
Hold on a moment. Garth says that there is no whipped vote, and that Dion is not threatening anyone. He said that every Conservative vote is a whipped vote, and that no one is allowed to speak in caucus meetings. No one. He said it, so it must be true.
Very interesting that on the Mike Duffy show today in his introduction to the Press Gallery Discusses Dion segment he said that today “Leaks were coming fast and furious out of the Liberal caucus. There was figuratively blood on the floor”
Robert Fife said the “whole two and half hours discussion today was all about the two provisions of the anti-terrorist law”. Fife said that Dion, in speaking to the caucus for the second time in the morning, said “My leadership is on the line here. There is going to be a three line whip -that means everybody has to show up and vote against the sunset law – otherwise I won’t be signing their nomination papers.”
To hear it live go to Mike Duffy show and the Press Gallery Discusses Dion Segment
Wow. If Dion actually said that, that is huge.
Notice that Dion’s concern is not for Canadians but for himself as Leader. And his criteria of leader is that YOU obey ME.
Again, he treats his MPs as ‘his students’; he is the boss, the professor, and they must all follow his word and do what he says. Or else, he won’t mark their papers; he’ll fail them.
Liberal’s with principal’s, that is very rare indeed, only time will tell if that is the case. I haven’t seen many Liberal’s with principal’s and most of them get tossed out of the party pretty fast, as having to stand up for something that makes any sense is not a Liberal value!
Why isn’t Dion’s #1 cheerleader Cherniak covering this? He’s too busy tattling, dealing with some vendetta with IPSOS employee, and trying to deflect all the recent criticism against his “god”
So Bains will have no choice other than to vote the party line; thereby removing himself from being seen as having a conflict of interest. How convenient.
But to look at CTV, there is nothing on Dion and the whip, nothing on the Sun story, just the Liberals sounding ‘outraged’ over the ‘allegations’ and ‘concilliatory’ saying they are open to ‘amendments’ (As long as those amendments don’t make the Air India Inquiry possible or effective).
The air-time they are giving to Goodale on this one is staggering, with nothing from the CPC camp.
Molar – Hence the need for attack ads.
Preston Manning once said that the two glues that keep the Liberal Party together are power and patronage. Dion obviously can’t deliver on either, so the LPC better hope there’s another glue on the Liberal shelf that Manning didn’t know about.
Dion is gone….worst column today is Lawrence Martin’s last gasp to say that Dion’s inante decency will inexorably come through…..WTF??? I heard that about Clark, Manning, Charest, Day, Mcleod, Nixon, any one of a number of Alberta Liberal Leaders, Claude Ryan, Robert Stanfield….jump in any time….sorry to say but it may be true but if thats all there is you lose.
Liberals got “Orcherded” and it doesnt get reported. They are stuck with a loser leader and the media are all looking for excuses now. Yes Harper was in a bad state leading into the last election, but the difference was the media were looking for it….you knew he had upside….Dion, well the media are trying to hide it…there isnt any upside here
Now if I were to be really clever I would be saying that DIon is fantastic, wait till the debate give him time he is being stymied, nd build up expectatations. But sorry, nobody would believe it at this stage.
iberals deserve at least one majority government out of power….at least. Bye Bye Stepahne, it was nice knowing you….
Their protestations over what Harper did not get to say speaks volumes. The reverend Mr. Ralph Goodale is rapidly losing all the reverence he thinks he has.
The very strange part of the story is they INSTANTLY knew what Harper was referring to which tells me they were very aware of it and wanted it hushed.
However, being stupid asses, they yelled and thumped themselves and the story into the limelight. The truth hurts again.
Harper won the day.
Hope the attack ads keep coming, nobody deserves them more. They are both factual and entertaining.
I watched Goodale try and get through his interveiw on Mike Duffy live last night, it wasn’t a very impressive showing on Goodale’s part other than trying not too say anything he shouldn’t and trying to sound really upset about what had been said.
Dion’s on a roll (not). The Green Giant is starting to look more like Little Green Sprout.
Ho ho ho.
For many modrate and rational Liberal back benchers refusal of nomination in a Dion-led ideocratic freak show may be an act of mercy.
i watched ralphie in the house yesterday. he did everthing but foam at the mouth. if a dog acted like that in public he would have been put to sleep.
bring on the election
Funny how the Liberal Trolls aren’t participating in this one. Ted how about running another one of your nifty excel spreadsheets.
lets say about 30 or so liberal members go against the leader on the terrorism bill extension and dion follows through with his threat to not sign the nomination papers. next time around if by some miracle he is still leader of the liberal party. its a win win for him, he can now deliver on his promise of having more women run for the party. what was it 30% or something. LOL
“Notice that Dion’s concern is not for Canadians but for himself as Leader.”
ET lets not forget France,
You know, I was worried when Dion was elected Liberal leader. I really thought that Iggy or Rae would be easier targets for the Conservatives.
I am proud to say I was wrong. Dion is the best thing that could have ever happened to the Conservatives in general and Harper in particular. I hope he leads them for many years to come.
Settle in folks…press conference with “Glorious leader Dion” on cbc momentarily(noonish)
Libs just got the latest polling results!
Hmm is there still time for a policy change?
OK we are not completely against the anti terror law.
Maybe we could support it a little bit.
Thank God these clowns are not leading this country
When asked about Justin Trudeau seeking a liberal nomination, dion said he does not interfere in nominations and it will be up to the liberals in said riding. So, it is not interferring to parachute women into ridings, it is not interferring to threaten to not sign nomination papers. Gee, what would it take to be accused of interferring in a nomination.
All those libs not planning to run again, and are against dions stand on the terror bill, they could vote with Harper and not worry about papers being signed.
Families of Air India having a press conference now.
I watched Duffy and neither he nor the Torstar reporter had a direct Dion quote “won’t sign nomination papers,” that’s what they had heard. No doubt this will be whipped vote, barring some compromise, one attempt having already failed. They freaked out at Harper because he linked Air India to the present terror threat, and got personal too. Haven’t the Libs figured out the CPC wwlling to play hardball this time? Dion risks much here, and I can’t understand why he is catering to the left wing of his party. Is this his personal view? That terrorism threats have abated? Is he just making a rookie mistake? Is he that stubborn? Dion risks defections, retirements, outright defiance and gives Harper a policy plank for next election.
Do the Libs plan to come out with some policies some time soon? BTW, will Jack Layton rise from his slumber, or is he waiting for his popular vote to drop below the Greens?
Can’t wait for the budget.
There are three major aspects of Dion’s life that are harming his leadership of the Liberal party: His past, his present, and his future.
I was hoping for Bob Rae as leader, but it looks like “‘La Petite Gar’ from Paris” is turning out to be
Unless his inherent decency shines through….according Lawrence Martin….I dont doubt Mr Dion is a decent man. But so what.
The libs made their bed now they get to sleep in it. They were “Orchered”….glad D.O. is a Liberal now….
Garth Turner is the litmus strip in this vote.
He has to be supportive of these laws (based on his history) and he declared Harper as Power Mad.
How many cracks of the Liberal whip will he endure?
right on!!! Stubby. nobody could of stated it better-
For the live version of Robert Fife’s remarks go to Mike Duffy on the CTV site to hear the following.
Robert Fife said the “whole two and half hours discussion today was all about the two provisions of the anti-terrorist law”. Fife said that Dion, in speaking to the caucus for the second time in the morning, said “My leadership is on the line here. There is going to be a three line whip -that means everybody has to show up and vote against the sunset law – otherwise I won’t be signing their nomination papers.”
editorial cartoon:
stephaaaaaan diooooooooon all in green looking at an ‘incredible hulk’ comic (with a resemblance to harper) with ‘thought bubbles’ ‘Im getting very angry!!!’
Another petition, found @ gopetition.com(link also on comments section over at Garth’s)as well as lib.site..demanding PMSH apologize! It went up yesterday, has grand total of 20 signatures!! I noted also, while surfing,at AGWN,a high-profile Lib.in BC has cancelled membership in Lib.party.Can’t wait for the “trickle-down effect” of mismanagement by Dion..I’m thinking the trickle could turn into a roaring waterfall!!
“There are three major aspects of Dion’s life that are harming his leadership of the Liberal party: His past, his present, and his future.”
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Following the cliche of “where there’s smoke there’s fire”…
The liberals were literally unprecedented in their attacks on Harper in question period when he tried to read into the record the Vancouver Sun article above – so much so that he was unable to do so. (this may be the first time that has ever happened to a standing prime minister)
And Stephane’s threat to not sign the nomination papers of any MP who does not vote the party line on the retraction of the terror legislation is the political equivalent of using a daisy cutter on an outhouse.
The dark, stinky parts of the Liberal party’s conduct within the immigrant community may soon be brought into public view. (In a somewhat related event it was also revealed this week that Paul Martin had raised funds from groups with well-known links -including to those around Martin – to the Tamil Tigers.)
Also that Harper is leading the charge on this is also very interesting. I doubt that he would if he didn’t think that he had the goods.
Robert Fife’s presumably accurate and leaked account indicates that the LP may coming apart at the seams.

Liberal dominated Senate…gives Dion a good spanking…
“OTTAWA — A Senate committee says controversial provisions
in the anti-terror law should be extended for three years, but it
has also suggested more safeguards for civil liberties be built
into the Anti-Terrorism Act.”
Two words… nail… coffin.

Everyone has to show up. Does that include those dead members Volpe signed up. They might be those 40 seats some poster said they lost because of the rcmp investigation. Still waiting for him to list where those seats were/are.
The problem of the leaders of the political parties in Canada is that they follow the totalitarians in the case, where they, the leaders, have the authority to decide who will run. Some may defend this by this or that, a little bit here and little bit there. There is no defence to do such a thing.
This is clearly dictators reserve.
re Harper and the Vancouver Sun article.
Methinks the Liberals do protest too much.
Yep, over 300 people dead, 100 million spent on a court case with uneven results, John Major a Supreme Court Justice suggesting the justice system failed the victims, and the libs want to retire the terror provisions.
Thanks to the LIEberals for underscoring that life is cheap.
What matters is POWER and MONEY to the LIEberals.
If you are a plebian, just go away and die.
Thanks for that inspiring LIEberal message.
