Edward Greenspon, Editor-in-chief of the Globe and Mail. Jan 27, 2007:
“It’s crystal clear: The environment will be the single most important issue of 2007”.
Google, World’s top search engine, Feb 10, 2007:
“Maybe so. But so far, it’s Anna Nicole Smith with the early lead … superbowl commercials fading fast and Britney Spears just eating up ground on the outside…”

As the pesky little detail called “the truth” continues to punch holes in the MSM filter faster than they can repair it, Kyoto will become the most important issue in 2007.
Don Martin notes in today’s National Post that in order to meet the Kyoto goals that the Liberals are trying to foist on this government on behalf of all Canadians, (*cough cough*) “Canada would have to shut down all the power generation in Canada. Twice over. Or, it would have to eliminate all gasoline-fueled cars and trucks. Three times over. It could shut down the manufacturing sector. Six times over. Or it might just choose to scrub all mining activity. Fourteen times over.” (emph. mine)
These little details beg the question: how much longer will it be before, oh, say, Bell-Globe and the CBC take the Liberals and the NDP to task for being pandering liars of the highest order?
Whoa! Hold the phone. Didn’t anyone read yesterday’s National Post? Page A2-U.N Urged To Take Action On Asteroids. Glowball Warming’s gonna get kicked to the curb by this baby.
The commies will only be happy, once we all just die. Let’s face it.
The biggist enemies of the enviroment are the enviromentalists themselves
As Bertrand Russell wrote,
There is no nonsense so errant that it cannot be made the creed of the vast majority by adequate governmental action’….
‘The fact that an opinion is widely held is no evidence whatever that it isn’t utterly absurd. Indeed, in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widespread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible’.
Check it out. Britney just took the lead. Anna Nicole will need to dig up a few more potential fathers to retake the lead.

Remember when they boiled the beach when the Exxon Valdez spill killed that duck? The only area that didn’t recover properly from the oil spill was where hot water had been used by environmentalists to “clean up”.
The top issue for this Canadian is a working health care system which does not kill Canadians waiting to use it or kill them by denying them treatments and cures available in other jurisdictions.
If universality cannot afford this, maybe we ought to reprioratize sexy but vacant expendatures like Kyoto so Universality can support a better system.
I’m open to any practical solution from any party.
Too many Canadians have died as a sacrifice to health care as a political football between partisan ideologues…I WANT A SOLUTION !!!
The year isn’t over yet, and that asteroid is still barreling down on San Francisco….
Help! U.N. save us!
top issues for some people in the real world? well let’s see, daughters 1 and 2 are both getting married within the next 2 years, vet bills for 2 sickly cats, car needs work, house is a mess and the job usually sucks
Finnish researchers are reporting that low levels of co2 and no pollution in the air increases the risk of strokes.
Re the cn strike and the effect it is having on sections of the economy. Think of what kyoto will do when all industry is effectively on strike.
Like EBD, I too was struck by Don Martin’s note in today’s NP. Since the following essay I have prepared on the matter for my mailing list is on the topic of what is or should be Canada’s and/or the world’s number one issue, I hope, Kate, that its length is not excessive under the conditions which you wish to operate SDA. If it is, but just a bit, perhaps you can allot me a few Cheez Whiz® karma points 😉
On the Absurdity of H.M.L.O.’s Bill C-288
On Wednesday, February 14, 2007, Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, composed of the Liberals, NDP, and Bloc Quebecios, took advantage of our Conservative Government’s minority position to pass Liberal backbencher Pablo Rodriques’s private-member’s bill C-288, an act which binds our Government to reducing Canada’s human-effected (HE) output of CO2, by 2012, to 6 % less than it was in 1990. Since 1990, Canada’s HE-CO2 output has increased some 30-odd percent, almost all of it under the watch of Liberal Governments, which means that C-288 now requires Canada’s Conservative Government to reduce our HE-CO2 output by about 38 % over five years, even though previous Liberal governments have achieved quite the opposite of any reduction during their dozen-odd years at the helm.
In today’s National Post, columnist Don Martin notes that in order to meet the requirements of bill C-288, “Canada would have to shut down all the power generation in Canada. Twice over. Or, it would have to eliminate all gasoline-fueled cars and trucks. Three times over. It could shut down the manufacturing sector. Six times over.” This means that if Canada shuts down all its power generation, and all gasoline-fueled cars and trucks, and all manufacturing, then we can, just barely, meet the requirements of bill C-288.
Assume that whatever measures are necessary are taken to achieve the goal of reducing Canada’s output of HE-CO2 by 38 ± 2 %. The portion of global HE-CO2 output produced by Canada is 3 ± 1 %, so the reduction of global HE-CO2 achieved by Canada would be about 38 × 3 ÷ 100 or 1.14 %. The proportion of global CO2 that is human-effected is 3 ± 1 %, so the reduction in total global CO2 achieved by Canada would be about 1.14 × 3 ÷ 100 or 0.0342 %.
The portion of green-house gas effect produced by CO2 in relation to other green-house gases, such as water vapor, which exists in greater concentration than CO2 and has a greater heat-trapping capacity, is, let’s say, 10 %. I’m least sure about this estimate, so for the variability calculations below I’ll consider the margins to be from 1 % to 50 %, but as I understand it there is a large consideration in play here. The reduction, then, in global green-house gas effect achieved by Canada would be 0.0342 × 10 ÷ 100 or about 0.00342 %.
In other words, if Canada shuts down all its power generation, and all gasoline-fueled cars and trucks, and all manufacturing, then we can reduce the global green-house gas effect by about 34 millionths (999,966 millionths of it would still go on). Based on the possible variations of values I have indicated, this value could be as high as 300 millionths, or as low as 1.5 millionths.
But what if, you say, we are just doing our part, and if everyone does the same (ignoring for now the problems regarding China and India not being committed to any such behaviour), then the effect would be larger? Yes it would. The 3 % Canadian portion of HE-CO2 would go to 100 % across all humans. So, the maximum effect would be a reduction of global green-house gas effects from 1,000 thousandths to 992 thousandths.
Now, hands up, how many Canadians think it’s a good idea for us to shut down all our power generation, and all our gasoline-fueled cars and trucks, and all our manufacturing, in order to reduce the global green-house gas effect (whatever it may be, good, bad, or neutral) from 1,000,000 millionths to (best case) 999,700 millionths? Ok, next question: How many think that Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition should be reduced to smithereens?
I think the gov’t should demand all enviroMENTALists prove their true to their causes by taking the Tooker Gomberg challenge. I vote for Kookie Suzuki and algore to lead the left lemming parade with fart bottlers like kinsella and tim reid next most of the lieberal party after that and scott brison bringing up the rear. This challenge pioneered by that great savior of the earth Gomberg is the ultimate high for the self loathing leftie, and after lieberal dick licker robert fife has reported on this event he should follow the rest of his lemming lieberal dorks.
The third highest emmiter of GHG is Sask Power who wants to convert to clean coal technology. This will cost more energy and emit more CO2.
What about the farmer who was going to sue the oil company for crop loss for a crude oil spill only to dicover in fall the yield was much better on the spill area.
Crude oil on your lawn will make you the envy of the neighborhood, Apply the crude in moderation!
The real story will be the nuclear asteriod flung from Iran and the global poisoning, not global warming.
Britney and Anna Nicole photos and copy are what the MSM uses to attract non newsbuffs to more exposure for their advertisers. Works well too. Just ask the National Enquirer.= TG
Wow, Britney had her head shaved. Now at least the drapes match the carpet.
Sorry I just couldn’t resist.
And all the while when SADDAM was setting all those oilwells in KUWAIT on fire where was GREENPEACE to object to it like they did after the EXXN VALDISE incedent
The environment will only be a top issue in 2007 when people realize what the Chicken Littles really are demanding (meet Kyoto at all costs even if it kills the economy) and the general public will be screaming at the government to ignore them or else.
