Affirmative Autocracy

When women can’t win nomination the old fashioned way, enter the Liberal sugar-daddy;

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion is prepared to take “extraordinary measures” to boost the ranks of women candidates in the next election, including barring men from seeking nominations in some ridings.
During last year’s leadership race, Dion promised that under his watch at least a third of the party’s candidates in the next election would be women.
But campaign organizers have concluded that the ambitious goal will be impossible to reach without some intervention to secure nominations for female candidates.

This guy is just a gift that keeps on giving…

72 Replies to “Affirmative Autocracy”

  1. And just what extraordinary measures is Dion prepared to take to ensure that voters actually vote for his hand-picked female candidates?

  2. This constant spew of archaic flower-child ideology from Dijon and his legeon of the damned, also reveals the empty=headed buggers haven’t had a freash though in decades and still are firmly rooted in the utopian socialism of the decadent 60s.
Grow up move on…become acquainted with reality Dijon…affirmative action, forced egalitarianism and other obsolete ideals of 60s socialism are now widely seen as race or sex based descrimination…hire on merit, not skin color, ethnicity or sex or any other socialist minority group profiling.
But then again if the Libs hired on merit Dijon would still be Chretien’s coffee gopher.

  3. Dion is planning to get to 33% women running the only problem is he’s planning to have them all running in Alberta.

  4. I would imagine this university putz sits down to pee also, he wants to, like the German gov’t, feminize the males of this country. Note to Stepon, it is’nt working in Germany, those “nasty” males are using their” protruders” to spray all over the seats in the restrooms where the womans voice tells them to sit down. Carry on clown, what’s next mandatory sex changes for noncompliers.

  5. Who will be the first to file a sexual discrimination lawsuit against the Lieberal Party of Canada? Doesn’t that just sound delicious?

  6. We will have to make sure that every riding that has a woman running for the liberals gets blasted with e-mails ect asking her what special favors she has provided to be one of Dions chosen ones.
All sitting members will be protected, how many women are in the HofC. Do we really need 100 Hedy Fry’s or Belindas in our government. Will he dare run them in Alberta. Maybe Annie will come out of the woodwork, with her deceased voters list again. To meet this goal, most of those women will have to run in Ont (gta) or quebec if they want to have a hope in hell of winning, And what if he gets his 100, and they all lose. Time for men and riding associations to tell him they will nominate who they want or they will vote green or ndp.

  7. I was listening to mind numbing CFRB this morning in the car, mostly about some Marilyn Monroe look-alike druggie on their news. But Christie Blatchford came on and said (paraphrasing) “the reason women don’t run is because they have to work to feed the kids – two, big, time-consuming jobs – kids and work”
If this is an accurate reflection of what is going on, if we want to improve female participation in the political process, what should we do? Have income splitting? Should we minimize the time spent in Ottawa? What do MPs do there that can’t be done by teleconferencing by a stay-at –home-mom who multi-tasks debating the Budget while scrambling eggs?
My MP hasn’t even bothered to live in my riding for years. John Godfrey just up and moved to Ottawa to avoid the commute – most people don’t know, don’t care .. he’s a Liberal, so he did nothing anyway.
Don’t we need to change the whole structure?
Oh . .and my experience is not enough women may be MPs but they are very involved at the grass roots level in the riding. The riding would not function without women … like a lot of things … :>)

  8. Bob Fife needs a Geography lesson:
    Beirut is Next to China?
Go to CTV.ca. & listen before joining the start of daily question period Bob reports that the PM was very upset that nobody from the “Embassy in Beirut” attended the trial “In China” of Huyseyin Celil.
I would be a little ticked if Someone From the Embassy In “Beirut” Attended a Trial In China, So Bob Why would someone from the Embassy in Beirut attend a trial In Bejing? Do we not have an Embassy in “Bejing”?

  9. And just what extraordinary measures is Dion prepared to take to ensure that voters actually vote for his hand-picked female candidates?
    Barbara, maybe that should read…
And ju$t what extraordinary mea$ure$ i$ Dion prepared to take to en$ure that voter$ actually vote for hi$ hand-picked female candidate$?

  10. I think SDA readers come from across Canada, and we will keep our ears and eyes open for nommination meetings, and report if they are women only running, and let the rest of us know.
We should all go buy some stuffed lambs and be prepared to mail them to such candidates as that is what they will be, sacrificial lambs. And, I thought it was Harper who was the control freak and dictator. Maybe we should send those lambs to Dions office and say, please distribute these to your candidates. We know one of the candidates will be Martha Hall Findlay, who got 2% of the liberal vote for leader. What percentage of delegates did she get from Ontario, or her riding at the time.
If these women only nomination meetings are really held, will there be more than one choice, or will they be appointed by the dictator.
Sounds like elections in Iraq where saddam was the only candidate and called it an election.

  11. Check out my post on the math of this.
Dion will need to squeeze about 80 nominations into about 60 ridings to keep this priority. But we know that he thinks that making priorities is difficult.

  12. Thats pretty “MEAN SPIRITED” of Dion in not allowing the best canidate to run regardlesss of gender, His “Far-Left Ideologies” just show’s you how “Authoritive” he can be in not allowing “Freedom of Speech”,(I will take that part back he allowed Mark Holland Freedom of speech), So i think that he should get his “Priorities right” and it is “Not Fair” in how he is handling who can run.
    Thanks Comrades

  13. Geez, thanks again for suggesting all those women run in Ontario! Most people here would elect a monkey if it was wearing red. I would have much preferred Alberta where they would be soundly trounced.
We’re still trying to get over our very own Sheila Copps. At least when she was in government we could always tell whether or not she was in town for the weekend. A quick trip to the airport was all that was needed. If the Government Challenger was in the hangar, we knew enough to hide ’til Monday.

  14. I am all for more women in politics, but one has to wonder in this day and age of equality……
….. why Mr. Dion does not think women capable of both making the choice to run and surpassing a few odd males on the way. (often easily done in my experience)
Why is it that so many people confuse “equal” with “fair”. Did you know that men make up a disproportionate number of people in prison?? Should we start letting out some of the rapists and murderers?? Or just imprison a bunch of females on trumped up charges?? Fair is putting the criminals away. Equal is throwing an equal number of women in to match the men. That’s all affirmative action really amounts to.
Contradiction: Women don’t like Harper (often reported in the news). Why aren’t the liberals flooded with female candidates there to knock off the PM??
A good editorial by Ian Robinson:

  15. I’d love to see a canuck female PM who was the equivalent of Maggie Thatcher; that is, a real leader unafraid to get the job done.
However, when discussing female liberal MP’s, think:
    – Hedy Fry (burning crosses)
    – Belinda Stronach (university dropout coasting on Daddy’s dough, baking “economic pies”)
    – Eleanor Caplan (“Reform supporters are Holocaust deniers”)
This is just a slice of the boneheads who ran on their own ambition.
Can you imagine the calibre of dion’s parachuted candidates, mouthing kyoto, AGW, “sustainability”, etc.
Please, please let this be so. And I’ll be counting the days until the next election

  16. Mary T.,
Dr. Didlittle shouldn’t even bother running candidates in Alberta.
The total Liberal vote will be about the same whether he runs zero candiates or a full slate. It would save them money. And since Dion seems bent on igniting a political and legal conflict with Alberta the symbolism of such a move could also help him shore up his base elswhere.

  17. I’m talkin’ Quebec!Isn’t it east of Ontario? There will be only men running, guarantee it!

  18. Dion could start recruiting candidates from the “out-of-work” former NAC staffers, Friends of Medicare, yada, yada….

  19. Agreed, plenty of folder from SOW and friends.
Sounds like Canada is shaping up nicely to become the next China.

  20. …but if the Liberals are seeking the muslim vote, wouldn’t it be counter-productive for Dion to run women candidates? Or gay candidates? Or Jewish candidates?
Oh, what a tangled web they weave, when first they practice to deceive.

  21. “Who will be the first to file a sexual discrimination lawsuit against the Lieberal Party of Canada? Doesn’t that just sound delicious?”
Uh Tom discrimination is built into our charter of rights its “Man”ditory.
    Read 15.2 we’re doomed.
    http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/Charter/index.html
I’d love to see a canuck female PM who was the equivalent of Maggie Thatcher; that is, a real leader unafraid to get the job done.
    Kate has my vote!

  22. How about JVD, Susan Murray, Judy Rebick as at least 3 of the 100. Who remembers the clips of Sheila climbing over the opposition benches to attack a govt minister, of course Hedy’s crosses are burning, the economic pie, holocost deniers, and there are many more examples out there of liberal female mps. That is what dion wants in his government. How many mps were for dion before the leadership thing, (non liberals don’t count) I don’t think he had very many, and how many of those against him are still against him.
Word is 24 libs are not running again, why, and will they all be replaced by women candidates.
Those in the msm that said the re-run ads will not work are wrong. Just read the posts and see how many of dions stmts are being repeated. Sort of like the beer and popcorn thing.

  23. Bring it on Libs.
I cannot wait for the next election!
The Libs are setting the stage and their platform is NOT going to mention, healthcare, the economy,
new infrastructure, like roads, bridges, airports, etc., or more money and support for The Canadian Armed Forces.
    Their platform is…..drumrole…….THE WEATHER.
Haw haw haw. This should be good. Even with the MSM blowing wind for them, I really do not think the electorate will buy it.
And this promoting women ahead of men, regardless of merit, is icing on the cake.
    Haw, haw, haw.
But when talking with the Libs and Dippers on this subject, one has to ‘understand’, that, in this new post gender world, that is now entrenched in our schools and universites and government, there are not two sexes, there are five.

  24. Another typical Dion/Lib move. Take a position with no idea how to acutally implement it. Just like Kyoto compliance, better info for doctors, Marshall plan for Afghanistan.
Dion says “trust me, I will have specifics after I’m elected.” It’s not going to happen, and his MSM fortress is already showing signs of cracking. BTW, good luck defeating the budget; the scenario being – those Terrible Tories brought a budget they knew we wouldn’t support and thus forced/engineered an election.
The facts: Libs have no saleable leader or policies, Harper has outmanoeuvered them; they have little money for a campaign; and, they are going against party leaders already bloodied in elections.
Libs are in dilemma. They have small war chest, their leader is not saleable, so they have to risk going now, or hope either Dion gets better or something bad happens (ie) job losses in Ont, that they blame on Tories. We will see.

  25. “…including barring men from seeking nominations in some ridings…”
This certainly doesn’t square with Liberal and Democratic does it?
And why only some ridings and not others? Are some of this country’s citizens less deserving of the best candidate possible than others?
Surely this can be made to be a harmful stance to the LP.

  26. Of course dykes, and socialists will love this one but most other women will find it horrifically patronizing that this girly-man should insult them thusly.
    (real conservative)

  27. Liberals should especially ensure a woman candidate in the riding of Saint-Laurent-Cartierville.
(It’s not funny if you have to explain it, but that’s Dion’s riding)
More seriously, this criteria will fall most heavily on those ridings without a current Liberal MP. That means this criteria will fall mostly heavily on the west – which is okay for Dion, since the first Liberal rule is “it’s okay to screw over the west, so long as you don’t piss off Ontario and Quebec.”

  28. If Dion’s looking for female candidates, he should round some up at CBC Newsworld, the Female News Network.

  29. From the article:
Where necessary, the committees will be able to simply refuse to allow men to run for nominations in some ridings.
“We’re trying to find the techniques that are consistent with our democratic processes to the greatest extent possible,” said Gerard Kennedy, Dion’s special adviser on election readiness
    —-
Those techniques totally contradict democratic processes. Especially, as it is the Liberals, who are always accusing Stephen Harper of being autocratic for not allowing enough democracy in the Conservative Party.
The Liberals are always claiming that their Party is the “all inclusive” party that “best” reflected Canadian values. Folks, “all inclusive” includes men as well. Now we see the Liberals for the hypocrites that they really are.

  30. I really do not see why it is considered, by some, to be a come down to recognize that women need a little help in some environments to get to the table where the power and the other goodies are supposed to be handed out. I can say from direct and a great deal of indirect experience of workplaces that there are still a lot of bullies who need to be slammed into their proper place. Many people, including a lot of men, will not do it due to general modesty or perhaps timidity, in some cases. In the field of human rights it has been demonstrated many times that external aids, meaning enforceable rules, are often needed to strart righting the balance. It is true that this defines a need for advocacy which can often lead to the outrageous bellyaching of some pretty ugly females, but it has to be done presently. In industrial situations it still occurs with some frequency that supervisors who are bullies will try to create situations where their favor seems to be needed to get ahead. So there is a need to make them fear denunciation and penalty.

  31. *
I’m sure a troll through the safe injection site and
Vancouver’s lower east side, would do wonders to
square the lack of junkies and, uh… “sex trade”
    workers in Parliament.
Let’s get the affirmative action juggernaut rolling.
Of course… maybe we already have enough old whores.
    *

  32. And how many women are on Magnas board. Women keep women down way more than men to. Just watch the coming cat fight in the US with pelosi and hillory. And just maybe there are not more women running for liberal nominations is they have more moral and ethics than the ones who will be parachuted in. Sheila was refused a nomination, and what happened to her replacement, I think he got defeated when the liberals did. Who donates to campaigns more, women or men. women might work the phones and send out letters, but the men give the money. Now even Kennedy is finding it hard to set priorities.

  33. RE: but it has to be done presently
    Who says?
Affirmative action is sexual and racial discrimination. It goes against our cultural beliefs and capitalist values that holds merit as the basis for advancement.
I think affirmative action is how that poor woman astronaut in the news last week got ‘her place a the table’ too. Advancing people based on their race or their sex is, IMHO, a really dumb idea.

  34. garhane said: “It is true that this defines a need for advocacy which can often lead to the outrageous bellyaching of some pretty ugly females,…”
Is SOW “cash-strapped and shrinking”? The porkers can’t get their snouts into the taxpayers’ trough?
The fat of the land Librano$ are oinking. …-
Opposition MPs Block Conservative Attempt to Hijack Status of Women Canada
“We are tired of this government’s games and sly, underhanded moves,” Opposition members of the Standing Committees on the Status of Women agreed. A motion introduced in Committee on February 6, 2007, by a government member attempted to change the mandate of Status of Women Canada to focus its already limited resources on human trafficking.
Opposition members agree that the act of procuring sex for money should be criminalized and is undoubtedly a form of sexual exploitation. However, Liberal, Bloc Quebecois and NDP committee members affirm that this is not an issue that should be undertaken by the already cash-strapped and shrinking Status of Women Canada. …-

  35. Garhane,
What you say is universally true. But the solutions aren’t more quotas. The solutions are disclosure so that the public can decide what to do to the perps.
For example , we aren’t getting much disclosure in the MSM on Mark Holland’s bullying of the West and the oil industry. Because the Liberals don’t have a fear of “denunciation and penalty” in the West since they will never be elected there.
The Liberal way is bullying, threats, pitting one region against the other for the cynical purpose of obtaining votes. The best way to stop that is to vote in a Conservative majority and banish the Liberals to purgatory for 13 years. “There is a need to make them (the Liberals) fear denunciation and penalty”

  36. Quotas be damned! I must confess I worked for the Federal Government for 14 years. How I got the job, I’ll never know. The affirmative Action that took place during my time there was a sight to behold.
Women, minorities and Indians all got special hiring treatment. If the office was “down a quart” of some designated group, they would by-pass the interview process and hire strictly on academic records.
I’m not saying that a lot of the hires didn’t work out well, but some of these people were fast-tracked into management positions and really had no business being there. this will probably elicit a cry of Sexism from some of you but, the biggest Bullies in that office were the women used their position of authority to lambaste others, strictly because they could.
I personally have never seen men act in such a
    vindictive manner.

  37. At what point in the future will women achieve equality? How long does affirmative action have to be in effect? I would think that if you need to have a system like this in place for over 30-40 years (representing 2-3 generations), then it suggests that the system doesn’t or won’t work.
Poor, poor women…can’t make it in the world on their own without us men helping them along. Maybe we should help them vote, too. (sarc off)

  38. At this point in history affirmative action versus merit is not only undemocratic, if you really think about it, it’s insulting to the groups defined as still in need of protection. We are 40 years into civil and womens rights legislation, for God’s sake. You as an individual are a loser if you still need a handout.
The majority of blacks are squarely in the middle class now. If you are a female you have broken the barriers or you didn’t try. Women are almost half of med school enrollment now. I just Googled it. They are CEO’s now. I’m guessing half of law schools are female now. More women are in college in the US right now than males.
The Libs/Dems never give up trying to stoke the fires of divisive victim politics. And, keeping their crap alive are their shills in the MSM and on college campuses.

  39. “How I got the job, I’ll never know”
My guess is that your name gave you an edge , they assumed you were one of them and would fit right in … ;>)

  40. What ever happened to the best person available getting the job. I know, Iknow, I’m a dinosaur!!I LMAO when I hear Liberals yapping off about lack of democracy and then pull this type of dog doo. Can’t have the unwashed masses thinking for themselves now can we.

  41. Yeah and when I did the RCMP test I got a 180 but they gave a guy with a score of 160 the job. GO FIGURE.
Did I mention that im a white guy and the other guy wasnt?

  42. Why are there so few women in politics?
Easy – most of them are too smart for that crap. And they don’t have the overpowering need to puff up their egos like many men.
More power to them. But it is a damned shame.

  43. Well they could’ve had a female run in Parkdale-High Park against Peggy Nash?
Oh, what was that, Gerard Kennedy is running there?
    Oops.
This seems like that delicious bit that came out in the last election that essentially said white men couldn’t apply for a government job in whatever department it was.
Now, we all knew that, but it was still fun to see Liberals get crucified over it. It’s my fault, really, for not being a black lesbian female.

  44. More social engineering by the Libranos. Should go over big with the NDPeers too. Hell, if we need more women MPS, why not just bring in more exotic dancers, they’ll likely fill the Librano cv for position of MP. 🙁

  45. Penny,
I’m curious, why is it that there are so few women in the Commons? If our society enjoys such gender parity, are women just inherently dumber when it comes to politics? Are women just horrible at governing? Or, are they just all too lazy to get involved?

  46. After the beating the libs and the rest got in NFLD yesterday, plus a big hit on the lib treasury, I wonder if they will rethink their policy. Can the libs afford to run female parachuted candidates in the west. Do women really vote for women just because they are female. I wouldn’t. Is Belinda traing these potential women on how to break up a marriage, dump a lover etc. That is sure to be a vote getter for women.

  47. I don’t understand. The Liberal’s constantly run around claiming to be champions of the minorities. And yet here they are out-right denigrating minorities. Because, you see, males are the largest minority in the species, honey.

  48. After the Liberal leadership convention, I was of the opinion that Stephane Dion’s election as Glorious Leader was the best thing that could have happened.
For Stephen Harper and the Conservatives.
Nothing I’ve seen or heard since has disabused me of that belief.
I’m actually starting to believe that a Conservative majority might be possible.  Not definite, not a slam-dunk, not a sure thing, not iron-clad, or bullet-proof, or 100% gold-plated government-inspected, but possible.  In our cities.  In Canada.
Face it, Kate.  There is a God. 😉

  49. Duffy — very disappointing today. He had a panel of three women and failed to ask him about this issue — talked about the Robert Standfield celebration instead. Their presentation of the latest polls were totally confusing. And when Tim Power made reference to the Mark Holland thing he was cut right off . . . this type of thing just does make CTV and its journalists look way to partisan. If what Tim Powers said was not totally accurate — actually it was accurate with respect to the way Hollands remarks are being interpreted as NEPII– in any event the whole format is a partisan exchange (Powers vs. Scott Reid)and Duffy has no business jumping in to bolster or challenge either side.
