He’ll Run America Like They Run Their Party

By throwing the unopened bills in a drawer;

Chicago has yet to recoup the $1.74 million cost of President Obama’s victory celebration in Grant Park — despite a burgeoning $50.5 million budget shortfall that threatens more layoffs and union concessions.
“The Democratic National Committee has not yet paid us,” Peter Scales, a spokesman for the city’s Office of Budget and Management, said Thursday after questions from the Chicago Sun-Times. “We’re reaching out to them this week.”

That was February 20th – a full three and a half months after the big bash. I emailed Sun-Times reporter Fran Spielman to see if the DNC’s cheque had arrived. “Still unpaid. I check every few days. Be assured that, as soon as I know, you’ll know. “

Bringing A Smile To Dick Cheney’s Face

Is there nothing that Obama cant’ do?

…we are relearning that the “Imperial Presidency” is only imperial when the President is a Republican. Democrats who spent years denouncing George Bush for “spying on Americans” and “illegal wiretaps” are now conspicuously silent. Yet these same liberals are going ballistic about the Bush-era legal memos released this week. Cognitive dissonance is the polite explanation, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Mr. Holder released them precisely to distract liberal attention from the Al-Haramain case.

“Ich Bin Ein Beginner!”

Joe Biden got it wrong when he said “It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy.”
All they had to do was stand back and wait for the One to manufacture his own.

This is smart diplomacy? This is a debacle. The Russians dismissed it contemptuously.
Look, if we could get the Iranian nuclear program stopped with Russian’s helping us in return for selling out the Poles and the Czechs on missile defense, I’m enough of a cynic and a realist to say we would do it the same way that Kissinger agreed to delegitimize and de-recognize Taiwan in return for a large strategic opening with China.
But Kissinger had it done. He had it wired. What happened here is it was leaked. The Russians have dismissed it. We end up being humiliated. We look weak in front of the Iranians, and we have left the Poles and Czechs out to dry in return for nothing.
The Czechs and the Poles went out on a limb, exposed themselves to Russian pressure, and we have shown that Eastern Europe is not as sovereign as it appears if the Russian influence is there, and we will acquiesce in what they consider their own sphere of influence.
This administration has prided itself, flattered itself on deploying smart diplomacy. “Smart diplomacy” is a meaningless idea, but if it has any meaning at all, it is not ever doing something as humiliating, amateurish, and stupid as this.

Unfortunately, this time there’s no Khruschev to save us.

Berlin….

That is why America cannot turn inward. That is why Europe cannot turn inward. America has no better partner than Europe. Now is the time to build new bridges across the globe as strong as the one that bound us across the Atlantic. Now is the time to join together, through constant cooperation, strong institutions, shared sacrifice, and a global commitment to progress, to meet the challenges of the 21st century

It must seem like a lifetime ago.

…on this side of the Atlantic the whole business looked pretty demeaning. The morning papers and TV last night featured plenty of comment focused on the White House’s very odd and, frankly, exceptionally rude treatment of a British PM. Squeezing in a meeting, denying him a full press conference with flags etc. The British press corps, left outside for an hour in the cold, can take it and their privations are of limited concern to the public.
But Obama’s merely warmish words (one of our closest allies, said with little sincerity or passion) left a bitter taste with this Atlanticist. Especially after his team had made Number 10 beg for a mini press conference and then not even offered the PM lunch.

Or as Glenn Reynolds might say – “They told me that if I voted for McCain relations with Europe would continue to sour – and they were right!”

Putting A Saudi Shill In Charge Of National Intelligence Estimates

Is there nothing that Obama can’t do?

The man who will be “providing substantive counsel to the DNI and senior policymakers on issues of top national security importance” is in the pocket of the Saudis. Contrary to the expectations of Marty Peretz and others, Obama has enlisted in his administration a number of individuals with views that are hostile to Israel. One more won’t matter too much. What makes Freeman different is that he actually defends the corrupt Arab states that foment and support terror while at the same time condemning a democratic ally of this country.

Meryl Yourish“The lack of concern about Freeman from the media and from the Left shows how much they value critics of Israel. In any other circumstance an appointment of someone with Freeman’s conflicts of interest would be the subject of scrutiny. I guess his anti-Israel stands trump all else.”
Don’t expect to see any of those “O” logos disappearing from the sites of self proclaimed “pro-Israel” Liberal bloggers. Obama’s a Democrat, and that trumps anything and everything Israel.
Scratch a leftist, you’ll find an anti-semite – but at least they’re somewhat honest about it. Scratch a Liberal, and you’ll find an exploiter of useful Jews.

Now you know why he wants that assault weapons ban;

President Barack Obama will propose raising new revenue through a greenhouse gas cap and emissions trading scheme when he unveils his first budget on Thursday, US media reported.
The budget he will present assumes an emissions trading system will generate revenue by 2012, the Washington Post reported.
Fifteen billion dollars of the money generated would be directed to clean-energy projects, the Post said, citing sources familiar with the document.
Another 60 billion would go to tax credits for lower- and middle-income working families, and the rest to help families, small businesses and communities deal with higher energy costs, the paper reported.
[…]
According to Orszag, who at the time was director of the Congressional Budget Office, the program — which would force companies to buy permits if they exceed pollution emission limits — could generate between 50 and 300 billion dollars a year by 2020.
The New York Times also reported that the projected revenues would subsidize research and development of alternative energy sources.

“Not One Member Has Read This Bill”

Last week President Obama held his first news conference. Of the handful of reporters pre-selected to introduce his 13 minute “answers”, not one asked him if he had personally read the trillion dollar “porkulus” bill he’s been campaigning to have passed.

I call that journalistic malpractice. But then, what’s new?
Seven Democrats joined every Republican in voting against it. Now, there’s that bipartisanship they promised!

Obama Victim Of Tragic Teleprompter Malfunction

ABC news;

Obama has said twice in the past two days that Caterpillar CEO James Owens indicated his company would be able to rehire some of the 20,000 recently laid-off employees.
“Yesterday, Jim, the head of Caterpillar, said that if Congress passes our plan, this company will be able to rehire some of the folks who were just laid off,” Obama said today in Peoria.
But when asked today if the stimulus could do that, Owens said, “I think, realistically, no. The honest reality is we’re probably going to have more layoffs before we start hiring again.”
