I think this last 1.5 years has definitively proven that the majority of people would go along with every historical tragedy: Salem witch trials, The Inquisition, Jonestown, Eugenics, segregation, internment and all the rest. All it takes a is a big dose of fear and scapegoating, getting the media to foment hatred and division, then letting the worst of human nature take over.
Near the beginning the two of them used a few words to describe the pessimism of the era ” joyless, vindictiveness, killjoy culture, conformity”. I would add that there is generally a preference of ugliness over beauty, as well. And not just aesthetics but also an embracing of the ugliest parts of human nature, politics, historical events and people, etc.
If our era was a picture there would be no color or light. Just grey on grey with crowds of enraged people attacking each other on the ground and individuals floating impermeable bubbles screaming into the void while the megalomaniacs in the 1% are laughing their asses off in the shadows.

“Grey on grey.” No kidding. Governments and the legacy media thrive on dividing people against each other. I agree with you about the pessimism of the time. There is very much a sense of “fin de siecle” about everything which has happened over the past two years.
But there’s worse to come. It should be obvious by now that Spawn is set to have another national election this fall. It should be equally obvious that the legions of low information voters will vote for him and his gang of criminals again.
The stink of authoritarianism, corruption and manipulation is everywhere.
I think it’s telling that Shriver, whom I admire as a writer, has always considered herself to be a liberal and has come to realize recently where the left has taken us. The left has never been shy about letting people know where they’re going. Fascism has become the dominant political and economic paradigm. The enthusiasm and appetite for fascism is enormous in the west, Wuhan virus Stalinism and CAGW mass hysteria has been their catalysts.
She lives in two Left Wing hellholes: London and New York City.
She deserves everything she gets in that respect and I loved her book “The Mandibles.”
She nails it…therefore she must feel out of place in those hell holes.

World War Two was as pointless as the first. Lucky for us the authoritarian regimes spent most of their time going after each other and the Japanese were just plain dumb.
