Butter made from coal….mmmmm…sounds yummy….

As we stumble through week 78 (or close to it) of the Covid crisis, it’s important to put our current experience in perspective. When you erase price signals from a sector of the economy, dysfunction becomes a feature, not a bug. Central planners will blame everything for their failures with the exception, of course, of central planning.

The video below is from an enterprising former retail sales worker turned citizen historian who goes by the name of TIK (The Imperator Knight) who now makes a living producing Youtube videos on military history and economics. In this video, he analyzes the failures of central planning in Nazi Germany in the coal and railway industry. You can see some important parallels that apply to our response to Covid.

TIK’s videos are extensively researched and informative. His ongoing analysis of the battle of Stalingrad (now up to 23 episodes) is well worth watching.

  1. In short, government, regardless of stripe, sucks at picking winners and losers, and when they intervene directly, make a complete bollox of working processes. Only liberals and leftists think that more government will solve anything.

    1. People in government NEVER have any actual ‘skin in the game’ … hence they remain utterly detached from every idiotic decision they make. People who work in the actual REAL WORLD have everything to gain or lose from stupid decisions. Those who survive in business make wise decisions … consistently

  2. I am a regular viewere of TIK and he is an excellent historian and get into great detail but explains what National Socialism was, and how it was different from Fascism and COmunism; but, he points out, they were all forms of socialism.

His great works are detailed analyses of military campaigns of WWII but als he covers a lot explicatory material. Strongly recommend.

  3. Brilliant. Central planning is a core Nazi principle. Cancel culture, too. The Great Reset will have more of this coming our way.

Also amazing how just changing a word here and there and BLM, Antifa and Critical Race Theory talking points could be lifted straight out of Nazi speeches and propaganda.

  4. FYI….

We are on Week-64 of our “2-week circuit-breaker.”
Kind of like the Gaza Strip government that is in Year-15 of their four-year term.

    “Help us bend the curve!”
    “We’re all in this together!”
    LOL.

  5. What, you didn’t know? All food tastes like fossil fuels. From spring prework, to seeding, to spraying, to transporting seed, fertilizer, fuel, combining, grain cleaning, grain drying, swathing, pre-harvest spraying, rock picking, elevating, train cars, pressing/milling, corral cleaning; about 400 litres of diesel went into that slice of bread you had with your eggs this morning.

  6. Yes you can make it from coal or oil.

But tasty or not, it will still be a fossil fuel product.

    Like castor oil.

You might want to use it in moderation.

  7. The resources tied up in transporting Jews to the concentration camps would have added to the problem.
