It’s quaint that they are tying the “re-opening” to a faulty vaccine that has made some of its users very ill.
I notice that it’s been over three weeks, and those already vaccinated have not received a second shot. Phizer doesn’t have stats on delayed second shot efficacy. They make no guarantee that the first shot will provide any immunity unless the second shot is received within the twenty-one day window.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a doctor. You have to be a doctor with the right opinion. Any doctor in Ontario who says anything contrary to the government line risks getting their license suspended. This stuff is not being decided on the basis of any science. This is something else. I’m not sure what. Maybe just stupidity and an inability of bureaucrats to admit they made a mistake or maybe something more sinister.
As for vaccines it is not ethically applied informed consent with appropriate measuring of risk versus benefit if you have to get the vaccine or lose your job. That’s unethical coercion.

In essence, the government has created a panic, taken away basic rights and is now holding those rights hostage until you pay the demanded ransom – vaccinate or you’ll never see your rights again. Imagine that scenario played out in the climate change hysteria if they target food choices, agriculture, overpopulation, etc.
On to practicality. I see these vaccination rates as aspirational goals. Imagine if the rates for 18+ are plateaued at 63-67% this summer. Cases and hospitalizations are way down, deaths are rare. The public pressure to reopen fully would be overwhelming.

That is already being seen all over the US, where people who really wanted to get vaccinated have and now it’s come one, come all, no appointment necessary. How to get everyone else to vaccinate when the carrot approach won’t work anymore? The stick approach, especially for those who for various reasons have no interest in getting vaccinated or don’t care. Ability to freely travel will be a big one.
I suspect the panic will subside fairly quickly and rules created in the heat of the moment will cool off.
I think this will be the last big, hail Mary push for vaccinations. Pfizer has already announced a treatment for covid, others will follow. Once treatmenrs are approved (or emergency use authorized), what’s the legal framework for continuing the emergency use authorizations for experimental mRNA/DNA shots.
Travel…the first winter destination that announces no vaccine passport required will make money hand over fist. Especially after treatment options become available. Just a guess though.
Florida already has said no to vaccine passports, in a law that will take effect on July 1.
That won’t matter if you can’t leave Canada for Florida without a passport issued coercively in Canada.
In a sane world the criteria for re-opening fully would be if the vaccine is generally available to everyone. Then it’s up to you if you want to be vaccinated or not. Let everyone live their lives and forget about it. That’s my fantasy anyway and I know it won’t happen and we’ll have restrictions forever.

EdC in Plano, Texas (Dallas) here. Bars and restaurants are now packed with masks optional and it’s interesting that it seems to be the younger folks wearing masks but middle age and up have pretty much abandoned them probably because most older people have been vaccinated. Except for stores that require masks – not all do – we’re close to being back to normal. Kids have been in school 100% for months but many office-type businesses are still remote.
Basically this is what Israel did.

Who says these people are “…working for us.” I would wager a pretty sum they have interests other than our best interests in mind. I suggest that much of the bureaucracy in government is far more interested in accumulating power and budget than looking out for the common person.

Any time you vaccinate the number of people that they are doing there are bond to be reactions.Some people faint when donating blood. And ALL vaccines,if fact all injections of a foreign substance into the body, is going to have a certain percentage of negative reactions ranging from sore arm to death. The rate of reaction is .001% and the rate of death is around 0.0001%. So the odds of NOT having a severe reaction are pretty good.Not saying vaccines are good or bad just looking at reality AND the facts.

A big worry in this case is the longer term impact on the immune system. For me, this is a big road block. I do not think it is a good idea to tamper with the natural immune system. I am not sure why they are pegging opening up to the number of people getting vaxed, since, the vaccines do not prevent transmission. I do not like the idea of trying to put a guilt trip on people who are holding off on getting vaccinated. It is an experimental vaccine at this point, and trying to coerce people into getting it is unethical.

I believe this fits in with what you mention. I haven’t seen anything along the lines of what “typical” or common cycle thresholds are (or have been to this point) for positive cases, but I am expecting this standard applied retroactively might drop case numbers quite significantly. If anyone has links to a breakdown of these numbers, I’d be very interested to see what the deal is.
