Bernie Sanders and AOC frequently tout Sweden as the perfect example of Democratic Socialism. What is the actual reality over there?
Incidentally, before you dismiss President Sanders as a possibility, don’t forget that the Shiny Pony won a 2nd term after a plethora of scandals. Most of the electorate are Low Information Voters and can easily be swayed, even against their own best interests. Also remember the damage that Rachel Notley did to Alberta in just one term. If Sanders & co. take control of the reins of power, we all are going to be in a whole lot of trouble.
How about this for a thought.
Bernie Sanders wins. The central Canadian Trump economy collapses. Fracking ends and the US becomes a huge net importer of oil again. Suddenly Alberta oil is in demand. If the Americans need it they will get it.
Bit tough on all the small brown people in the middle east who will return to being the focus of great power attention again. Good for the Canadian and American defence industries I guess.

If he wanted to look at a much more socialist country than Sweden he would look to Canada. We have a monopoly single payer health care system that is similar only to Cuba and North Korea; we are well on our way to the economic suicide of the green new deal; plenty of government ownership in energy infrastructure and transportation; and in one area in particular in contrast to Sweden, land ownership. Both Canada and Sweden are heavily forested countries but unlike Sweden where 80% of their forests are widely held and privately owned, the deranged dominion “enjoys” 90% public ownership (nationally) resulting in a toxic sociology of competing and conflicting rent seekers and “stakeholders” (with Indians as just one of many players) rather than an agricultural-like sociology of people and families tied to the land. Think soviet agriculture without small family farms.
I’m in the camp that thinks that the US could very easily elect Bernie the commie. I lived in the US through most of two terms of Obama the commie and the loose canon populist won’t look as good to the masses if the economy slows a little more.

I don’t agree, Robert. He did not win a second term majority government. The most accurate description of last October’s election is that everyone lost except the BQ. the Liberals were wiped out in the West and they lost the popular vote. They remained a minority government only because of seat distribution. The Tories were a fiasco as we all know. Andrew was entirely unappealing and appeared incapable of assuming the reins of government. And the Tories were divided with Max Bernier’s Vanity Project. The Dippers lost with half their seats across the country going to various Conservative, Liberal and BQ constituencies. For all the hoopla about them, the Greens fared not significantly different nationally than they were before the House broke. And Lizzie May was the first national leader deposed after the election. And the overall national vote was down.
What does all this add up to? The general voters were unenthused about ALL the choices on offer. Worse, the Spawn of Pierre has taken a perfectly fine country and broken it. What happened last October was no paean for socialism so much as it was a “plague on all your houses”.
The typical American voter is over 45 and knows better than to thrust the likes of Bernie Sanders into office. The stupid “woke” children who make up the bulk of Bernie’s cult don’t turn out in large numbers, nor should they.
President Trump will beat Bernie easily. That will be quite all right with Bernie, who has scant genuine interest in being president. Bernie makes a good living making promises he knows he’ll never have to keep.
Beats working for a living. He tried the whole honest job thing on that Israeli kibbutz for a few months. Put him off work for life.

You are absolutely correct Canadians several years ago gave up their freedom when they were promised free health care and womb to tomb socialist programs like education being turned over to the teachers unions. The Federal Government unions have immense power and they use it every time they want more money or more power. The RCMP has been reduced to $100,000 per year bell boys for illegal immigrants. They were formally respected world wide for their dedication to upholding the law no matter who the offender was.The so called ‘ first nations ” think that they don t have to obey the laws of Provinces or the country and can do what ever they want with impunity and the RCMP is told to stand down. Even worse there are a whole lot of low info voters who agree with them because the CBC preaches it to them. The country we know as Canada will not exist in its present form in 25 years.

There is no such thing as Democratic Socialism its a socialist/fascist verbal trick.
There is democracy and there is socialism, the two are diametrically opposed.
One is your choice, the other is their choice for you by totalitarian diktat.
Social democracy is altogether another kind of animal.
Its a democracy that wants to somewhat even the living conditions of those with less. Its not a diktat.
You have to remember that Sweden, until recent times was a truly nation state, everybody was a Swede. They are also well educated, they can’t be forced to do what other chose for them.
They can if they agree, its up to them. A sort of family situation since they are or were all Swedes, there was no one, generally speaking, to be one up or a cabal one up.
