  1. Makes sense that she’d be as good on the grass as she was on water!
    Silken Laumann, Canadian champion mower(sic)

  2. Trudeau’s recipe for electoral success, 2015: cobble together a coalition of the deeply apathetic and the chronically lazy.

  3. Shiny Pony’s hair attracts many stunts, here’s hoping they vote their heads, and not their…

  4. Don’t know about you guys, but I’m starting to smell a real sense of desperation in the media over Kim Jong Justin.. My spider sense says he’s tanking and the MSM know it..

  5. A Liberal colleague of mine at a company reunion was talking about the extra money Harper will pay him for his three kids.

  6. Agreed! The question in my mind is… Did the media really believe their own bs? If “no” then why bother? If “yes”, how is that possible considering recent history? I can only surmise that it is more profitable to pander to their customers in their ‘echo chamber’, than be truthful at the cost of upsetting that core customer base.
Shiny Pony was/is never going to win for the reasons I’ve started here many times.

  7. *
by all means, vote for the paris hilton of canadian politics. wonder how much money p-spawn has promised to set aside for his pal kathleen wynne in ontari-owe.

  8. Silken Laumann must have one awesome looking lawn. According to Macleans she is ‘Canadian champion mower’. I didn’t even know they had a competition for that.

  9. In case you are wondering that over sized Windsor in his tie? Yeah its not a fashion statement. His handlers came up with it in their war room. When he opens his mouth the tie tightens and he is rendered speechless. With it operational they expect his ratings to go through the roof.

  10. Happy new year, Kate thanks for another great year. I think the slump in oil hits the Liberal $ a lot more than it does the good guys . In a choppy economy when you are worried about your job do you really want the economy solved by the creepy man child drama teacher who keeps talking about climate change? Health, love and prosperity to all.

  11. I am depressed by the vapid insipidity of so many of those statements.
I think many were quite deep and profound, cause I didn’t understand them at all.

  12. Gord; Totally agree. But you need to add two words to your response to the insignificant magazine that thought of this idiotic exercise.

  13. ” In 2016, Americans will replace the Obama government with a better government, if we vote.”

  14. You are right gordinkneehill most of the comments are simply vapid stupidity. In my world there are three special stupids: Those who think the world needs to change, those who think they have the right way to change the world and especially those who think they can change the world.
In other words if you are so stupid as to think the world needs to change, the way you think it should change and are stupid enough to try to change it then you obviously are too stupid to have a positive effect on the world.

  15. Dear Maclean’s, here’s 15 words from an obscure, disgruntled prairie curmudgeon:
2015: Canadian shallow celebrities offer up same cloying, vapid sentiments as they did in 2014.

  16. I wish we could replace Harper’s government too.
    Maybe with a conservative one.

  17. The majority of the quotes, including the one from JT, typify why I long ago stopped reading Macleans magazine.
What a bunch of uninspiring, whining, wimpy drivel.
As for all the Harper haters, they are in for a big surprise. Can’t wait for election night to see their long faces.

  18. gordinkneehill said “I am depressed by the vapid insipidity of so many of those statements.”
I honestly couldn’t agree more. I sometimes think that were it not for our vast natural resources, Canada would be a joke.

  19. Elizabeth May, ”We must rescue democracy.” This from one who decries the removal of the $ per-vote that kept fringe parties like hers on life-support. 2015: Time for the Greenies to bite it.

  20. Happy New Year and all the very best to readers and contributors to SDA. The blog is a daily “Must Read” for anyone with a lick of sense.
    Cheers Limda

  21. 15 words eh?
Used to call him shiny pony, now that more is known he’s become Leisuresuit Larry.

  22. Which is entirely true, of course.
I’d only add that, as part of his mix, he’s also targeting, in a Venn diagram sort of way, the deeply and chronically, er, “self-medicating”, a side-effect of which, according my clinician wife, can be paranoia.
And speaking of paranoia (and Bill’s wife), what the hell does, “If we vote”, mean? Does this gadfly actually think we’re all so credulous to believe that Stephen J. Harper would seek to circumvent an election that he has already effectively called, especially since he’s so good at winning them?
As to gordinkneehill’s comment, I’d only add “vacuous” to “insipid”: the only good comments, IMO, were by Laureen Harper and Don Cherry.
I’m Dave Southam, Chairman, Dave Southam Foundation, and I approve this message.

  23. Ah, Elizabeth May. Remember her tour after the 2011 federal election where she opined eloquently, and long windedly no doubt, that PMSH shouldn’t be PM because his party didn’t get 50% of the vote, so didn’t “deserve” government. We’re still waiting for someone, anyone in the mediocracy, to ask her why then was it OK for her to be elected MP with less than 50% of her riding’s vote?
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/elizabeth-may-elected-in-b-c-riding-1.992849
She was heard to say though “hey, I got 46%, so like you have to get like over 45%; no wait, 40%. Umm never mind.”
Yes, it’s satire. Bad satire, but still satire.

  24. Entirely true, also, my friend.
I well recall from election night, 2011, our great and true friend (or, at least Stephen Lewis’s great and true friend), Bob Rae, who was elected in Toronto Centre-Rosedale with about forty percent of the vote, complaining on CBC that Stephen J. Harper’s first majority was illegimate, since he only got about forty percent of the vote.
Of course, Mr. Rae was erudite enough (and the CBC so clueless) not to mention that he achieved his 1990 majority in Ontario with less than thirty-eight percent of the vote (barely bested by Ms. Wynne in 2014, which, in fairness, not even he could have foreseen at the time).
All of which caused me to be overcome with paroxysms of laughter, which ended with me rolling on the floor, kicking and out of breath.

  25. Would also note that Mike Holmes 15 words provide an absolute on political ideology as well as home construction.
Don’t buy a house just because it looks good, buy something built on a solid foundation.

  26. Life is to be lived a moment at a time. I don’t know what will happen when I leave this office and drive home in about 15 minutes from now, much less know what will happen next year. The best to all of you, and may the winds of love, fortune and good health fill your sails!
    Love
    The Plainsdrifter
PS: I hope Trudeau drops dead.

  27. Congrats indianaphonez! First one to recognize that 2014, or 2015….either one is TWO words…

  28. If this jerk gets in their won’t be a Canada left as he tries to destroy the Western economy like Daddy. We all know it. This gy was never even a community organizing lazy bum. A part time drama teacher with a silver spoon in his mouth.

  29. I guess his backroom boys are telling him all he needs to do is get the hoards of liberal voters who stayed home last time to come out for him! Thankfully he’s about to see how untrue that fable is.

  30. Hey, I know it’s off topic, but what do ya figure turdo la doo has in his hair…Vaseline?
