Lots of complaints on #pcldr about the Alberta PC’s electronic voting.
How many times are people going to continue trying this dangerous use of technology with the false hope of providing a more direct democracy?
Pencil and paper. If you can’t leave the house (save physical restrictions), you have no right to help determine anyones future.

Electronic voting is advocated by those with the worst accountability. It is why the Libs and Dippers want 14 year olds voting in elections. I suggest electronic voting equals the end of democracy.
Electronic voting is unsafe democracy. Paper and pencil, and manual counting with multiple witnesses.
Electronic voting ensures the right candidate wins every time. Takes out that messy unpredictability. Every computer eventually gets hacked. Let’s put the future of our democracy in the hands of Chinese military hackers, like we do with everything else.
Paper and pencil, and manual counting with multiple witnesses.
Exactly !! Our paper ballot system is the cornerstone of our democracy.
Remove that, and elections become a techno sham like in the US.
Every place in europe that’s tried e-voting has abandoned it, that should tell you something.
I’m with Eli & the old country on this. paper & pencil. works in outer space….
I’d go a lot further than that: Voters must show some proof of real civic literacy, and the franchise should be limited to net fiscal contributors only. As Benjamin Franklin put it, “When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.” Or as George Bernard Shaw put it, “A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.”
“A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always count on the support of Paul.”
Unfortunately we have governments that rob both Peter and Paul to pay itself.
There is no record with e-voting and there will never be a secure system. It just begs fraud.
The best system I have seen is a flat sheet that you mark and the sheet is scanned and then set aside, The counting is electronic but a paper record remains should there be doubt of the result.
The conflict of interest in allowing the parasites to vote on the behaviour of their host .
Takers from the public purse should not vote.
Government employees who do not like this can resign anytime they want.
With the exception of retired citizens all takers should lose the vote.
Want to vote,shape policy?
Then be Idle No More.
Pay some tax.
Course I would forgo the vote if I could pay no taxes.
Require all taxpayers to vote, only allow taxpayers to vote.
Pencil, Paper, voter registration card with photoID embedded and india ink on the right index finger. And not just for riding elections but also for leadership elections – charge a 25$ registration fee plus the membership.
I just don’t care how they vote or who they choose. The PCs lost my support when Ralf screwed up the provincial centennial. In a hundred years Alberta went from being a rural backwater to a world leader and all Ralf and the boys could think of was naming a road after some highway in Ontario.
How the hell can they decide if a taxpayer on property vs. a taxpayer on services and income should vote is retarded.
Like Mr.Galts comment up there.
Income tax and property tax leave records, other taxes are not relevant.
Got it now?
A fella, who had the handle STALIN, said it doesn’t matter who votes….what matters is who who counts the votes….
Remember the Quebec referendum, “no” votes were discarded as “spoiled”…….
I agree with your concerns about electronic voting. Electronic voting machines are also vulnerable, as have been shown repeatedly in the states.
But you don’t need computers to foul up democracy. Remember how Allison Redford got elected? Huge numbers of new PC party “members” joined after the first round, to propel her to victory. I suspect these were mostly teachers’ union members looking to enforce their agenda.
Recall Churchill’s quote: Democracy is the worst form of government, except for every other form that has been tried from time to time. Sadly, people keep proving this.
If you live in Canada you’re paying tax, izall i meant.
