  1. Brian mulroney is as clueless now as he was as PM. Cretin won because he was not conservative. But then BM was not conservative either. PMSH has the same problem – he is not a conservative – so what difference does it make who is elected PM? We are heading in the wrong direction no matter who wins. The only difference among them is the speed at which we travel into the new dark ages.

  2. And a big Amen to that…
As always Mr. Mulroney is entitled to his opinions; but the distinguishing characteristic between Mulroney and Harper; is that Harper is still listening. Alternatively, in some other governments noted, the arrogance of power led them to become tone deaf and listening poor.
The proposition that the LIEberals are ready for prime time governing is not evident in the gaffe fest of the last 18 months.
Thus far “True-Dope-ia” is going after the marijuana vote, the abort your children vote, and most recently the state of Israel is guilty of war crimes vote. Moreover, he is also going after the ‘dictatorship is admirable’ vote.
One might add the ‘hole in your head’ vote.
I’m not persuaded by the Mop and Pail’s most recent attempt at polishing a rotten apple is anywhere near successful.
    Cheers

  3. Mulroney was a corrupt bastard, recognized by the West as divisive and favoring Quebec and Ontario.
He got out before he was kicked out and left the pieces to the incompetent Kim Campbell.
Cretin won by default because of all the people who refused to vote PC.

  4. Mr. Mulroney also referred to Stephen Harper as “strong” and “principled”. Mulroney stated that Trudeau was “good-looking, had a beautiful wife and beautiful kids”. Now who would you prefer as PM?
If the electorate puts the Liberals back in power it would be analogous to a baseball team, after winning 3 straight World Series, firing the manager and trading away the starting nine because it was time for a “change”.

  5. If a desire for “change” was all it took to win an election, why aren’t the PCs in power in Manitoba? For the last three elections, they’ve promoted a contentless election platform not much different than what Trudeau is currently peddling. You could probably say the same thing about the Ontario PCs. Why didn’t it work for them? Probably because it’s a bad strategy. I thought Mulroney was smarter than that.

  6. You know, as I near retirement age, I think I will be leaning towards voting in more socialist tax and spend governments like the Liberals….I’ll let their social programs help take care of an old fart like me, and let the younger generation pay the way through higher taxes. I told my two university-aged daughters this was my strategy, and I have converted them to voting conservative.

  7. This is the same Mulroney who fell in love with Robert Mugabe….just saying.
There is a real hatred in the air for Harper right now, frankly it’s creepy.
So much can happen between now and election day that anyone who predicts Harper’s demise is a fool.

  8. The short answer: Huge majority in 1984. Elsie Wayne and Jean Charest in 1993.
Mulroney never grew out of image politics, and he thinks life works that way. Maybe it does, too; but that’s not a good thing.

  9. What will determine the election is whether the Consertives remain united, and whether or not the Liberals have both the money and the message to undo the inroads the Conservatives made in the 905.
Trudeau’s appeal is insufficient on its own to win the election.

  10. Mulrooooo is the first of a line of people the media are counting on to help them slag Harper, it’s all part of their agenda to ensure their boy gets his arse into the PM’s chari to make a collossal mess of the country. Next up? Joe Who and a variety of other old farts like Ed Broadbent of NDP fame….

  11. Never underestimate the venally reflexive anti-Harperism of commenters on the Mop and Pail site.

  12. Somehow the fact the conservative voter was in a position to choose another option beside the P.C Progressive Conservative (also politically correct-Liberal Party Lite) and the ReformParty subsequently Alliance Party is probably why the Libranos under P.M. Chretien had three Majority Governments.
You know the same P.M. Chretien who broke down and cried prior to the Quebec Referendum; the Prime Minister Chretien under whose watch the R.C.M.P raided the President of the Business Development Bank’s home coincident with a loan for a Golf Course PM JC was trying to divest himself of.
The Main Stream Press at the time was and is the same as now, except as former PM Brian Mulroney acknowledges PM Harper has finally been able to withstand the pressure of this similar Main Stream Media with their continuous drive-by smears.
PM Mulroney did initiate and successfully bring Canada in to the Bigger Market Reality of Global Business. He has my appreciation for this contribution for Canadian employment as the Global Markets continue to dominate. I do regret the impression PM Mulroney has settled into a role of “”can do” individual for the wealthy, but what the hades. He could be a an Adjunct Professor as couple of Liberal hold overs are; or possibly sitting back clipping coupons from the advantage of being a Liberal PM who’s Father initiated a significant purchase guarantee by the Canadian Government.
    Details always available. In any case the trolls will probably be responding somewhere. I do not understand why the Grope & Fail does not accept my comments any longer. Cheers;

  13. yuppers, and olde moosejaw has a point, the so called conservative voters may be fed up and stat home, and Hair Boy may just get in on that account. The nay sayers in here are as blind as the lieberals they are always denigrating

  14. The comments under that article are interesting.
Harper Derangement Syndrome is alive and well .
Those who are counting on conservatives to crumble away from Harper are dreaming.
The media is preaching to the converted, themselves.
The kind of hatred toward Harper these people have blinds them.
Rational people do know that Harper is just a man. And a Canadian Patriot.
The real poll and the only one I will respond to is next fall.
Last two federal elections, same old story from the media, two years before election, Liberals sure to win.
One year before election, Harper done, Liberals leading in polls.
    Election results???
Media , Canadian Voters so stupid they gave Harper a majority.
What so many fail to grasp.
    Conservatives vote.
There is no choice. No opposition, just squalling babies, intent on spending the next two generations into poverty.

  15. Mulroney was the best thing that happened to Reform aside from Manning. In Mulroney’s case the voters that wanted “change” were former Conservatives while in 2015 it will be the mindless middle who avoided the two previous LPC losers by either voting Conservative or staying home. Mulroney is correct that the Spawn offers a better alternative for that demographic as he has pretty hair, famous name and he offers comfort to those incapable of rational and critical thinking. I’m glad he played up Mulcair as Harper’s best hope is a balanced NDP, Liberal vote-split.

  16. I have spoken to a few CPC riding organizers (the guys who come out of the woodwork at election time to put a local campaign together) and they seem to be in denial about what’s going on. They are convinced that the CPC will win just because Canadians would never be stupid enough to elect Trudeau.
    Well, they are dead wrong.
Canadians are stupid enough to vote for an empty vessel like Trudeau just because they are “tire of Harper”.
At the same time, I see a lot of guys who have been staunch CPC supporters become a lot less enthusiastic about the party. Not Harper per se – he still gets respect – but the general sense that a bunch of amateurs are running the show, and that there has been a drift to the left, especially through the loss of the old Reform group, that makes the CPC look a bit more like the old PCs every day.
I will fight like hell to keep the CPC in power, but I am not optimistic at all, and there is a degree of tone-deafness emanating from the senior party members that is very similar to what I experienced in the two disastrous Hudak campaigns in Ontario. I am definitely not optimistic.

  17. Bah! The Media Party and their allies are exposing their narrative for the next election, a narrative they’ve simply pulled out of thin air… “people are tired of Harper and want change”… and thats why Canadians are going to vote for the retarded nephew of Fidel Castro? What a load of BS. Funny, the Media Party HATE Mulroon but not as much as they HATE “Harper”. I wonder what Karl Heinz Schrieber thinks about “Harpers” chances in the next election, or maybe the Media Party and Mulroon are simply looking for a free ride on Tony Accurso’s boat. Good for Boy Turdo that the Media Party aren’t at all interested in the Charbaneau Commission and it’s daily damnation of the Liberal Party and it’s decades old relationship with organized crime. The Media Party should ask Tony Accurso why he believes “Canadians want change” too cause I hear through reliable sources that Fat Tony is also tired of “Harper”. Desperate times call for desperate measures and there’s no one more desperate for a return to power than the Media Party and their organized crime pals.

  18. old Lori;
I am hearing the same thing. The CPC is becoming as superficial as they were when Mulroney was running things. The only communication I receive from the party is a request for more money. What goads is that the money request is worded as if I did
not have a real grasp of the situation. We are now back to ‘top down’ politics.
Under Reform there was a clear agenda which came from the grass roots. We had community hall meetings and issues were actually discussed. I have not seen our MP since spring. Used to have coffee with our Reform MP on a regular basis. Our riding would be considered safe but I would not be that confident. A well organized campaign by the Dippers might take it.
Under Harper’s watch the riding associations have been neutered. To many redneck quotes I guess. The net result is alienation and politics where spending more money is more important than communicating ideas. A CPC majority will only happen if Harper has a campaign that grabs the people. If he simply responds to Liebel attack and lets the media drive the agenda the CPC will be toast.
In our ‘safe’ riding the constituency association did not even have 500 members. When I was involved we had 1760 members. A good number of those members were very active. At the AGM we had 55 attendees. If you are a conservative and not worried about the upcoming election you are a fool.

  19. Those regular requests for donation we receive from the party are some of the most stupid, childish, pathetic requests I’ve ever seen. Written as though we were moronic low information voters. I don’t even look at them any more.
I guess this is why political parties turn over. No matter how strong the party and the message, rot sets in from within inevitably.

  20. Mulroney and Harper share a couple of things even though their ‘style’ is very different. Contempt by the media party for any conservative PM is a given. Joe Clark felt it too but wasn’t in power long enough to feel it in a continual sustained way. Any angle is attempted to cloud the narrative in a potential conservative voter’s mind. Not conservative enough, too conservative, hated by everyone, hated by our allies and so on and so on.

  21. Mulroony and Cretien were basically cut from the same cloth. They were not guided so much by any ideology but rather the heartfelt belief that they were destined to rule.

  22. I agree. The constant daily media bashing for years of PM Harper is having an effect on the LIVs.
I have detested Muldoon since the F-18 contract went to Quebec rather than Winnipeg. During his first election campaign I was in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, cheering with the rest of the locals and was betrayed by a Liberal in disguise. Hans is right about “rotten apple”. Unlike John Gormely, I have zero respect for Lyin Brian, Free Trade or not.
Old Lori and CT, that is the same feeling I get here in our riding. The eastern Progressive Conservatives (liberals) run the party now. Reform and all that it stood for is dead. I will donate and fight to have the Conservative Party win but with less enthusiasm than formerly.

  23. I thought he was retired.
    He should remain that way.
As Mulroney did not have feeling for the Canadian electorate before, he is not exhibiting any sign of it now. Trudeau in the seat of power is ruinous. Any idiot willing to vote in that band of perverted liars and crooks known as the Liberal party should pay it forward to the rest of the populace who must suffer under such a government and sell everything they own. If I’m going to lose everything under the Liberal thumb, so should they.

  24. Poor old BM, still stuck in the 80s when the world looked up to the US and it president. The world has moved on thanks to Bush, Clinton, Bush especially Obama, and and BM still has dreams about singing Danny Boy with Ronny Raygun.

  25. GOR – The best thing about Trudeau Sr.’s time in office was when Nixon called him an asshole!

  26. Actually, the best part was after Nixon called Trudeau an asshole, the House of Commons was in a tiff over it and Diefenbaker rose to address the House and said that whereas Nixon may not know much about diplomacy, he certainly knows his anatomy!

  27. conservatives removed Mulroney from office. they realized what a bad deal they had made. too bad liberals are unable to see their bad deals and act accordingly. i.e. Dalton and now wynne in Ontario.

  28. John Chittick – God Bless your little pea-picking heart! I trust that is the truth and that I may use it?

  29. Justin Trudeau and Brian Mulroney both come from the Quebec political school, an Upper and Lower Canada view of the country that has been long discredited as the economic locus of power has shifted west. To that bunch anyone not from Toronto, Montreal or Ottawa is some western redneck hick. We as a country are long past that nonsense. The Liberal Party of Toronto is a long way from power IMO, there are too many cards stacked against them. I do agree however that we should never underestimate the ignorance of the voter.

  30. Is there anybody playing with a full deck think that Hans Schreiber was the only one asked to deliver envelopes of cash to Mulroney if they wanted to do business with his government?
