CN Rail, which owns the line, said its staff spotted some of the protesters tampering with a rail crossing signal device, something that is illegal and could put people’s lives at risk.

Don’t I recall something about the Devil and idle hands?
I wonder how this affects Attawapiskats $100,000 shares of CN.
Slow news day? Nobody else was being a publicity hound for the cameras? Kardiashian didn’t say anything? Kate Middleton didn’t show off a new dress? Al Gore didn’t predict the end of the world again?
Honestly, Canada. Is this the best we can do for attention-seeking media whores? We really are falling behind the curve here…
Unless the police apply the law to Indian lawbreakers when they block rail lines and roads we may as well assume it is not safe to travel. No else under any cocked up assumed banner can pull off this stuff without being tossed in the slammer or fined heavily.
Most of us are fed up with this behaviour. It’s either we are all equal under and before the law or none of us are.
That was an eye-opener! Spence appears to have little,if any management skills,I wonder what formal training she has had to be Chief of the Reserve. Her shack-up,Clayton Kennedy doesn’t give the impression of integrity with his arrogant attitude.
They seem to be stuck on, “blame the white man/government” which is the easy way out when you don’t know what you’re doing.
I can understand frustration dealing with any branch of government, they seem to work in quicksand, but have to wonder if Spence’s attitude toward the government isn’t part of the problem.
The guy who’s moving off Rez is doing the absolutely RIGHT thing,I’ve met many Indians who have succeeded in life, and ALL left the Rez and the culture of corruption to do so.
I wish the fellow and his 8 kids the best of luck in their new reality.
Pleasantly surprised by the “highest rated” comments at the CBC on this article. Seems apparent the average Canadian isn’t swooning over Spence, and also are not in agreement with the idle’s, opposition parties or CBC.
On Friday the Vancouver Sun published this from a Post Media News hack Spence Wins … Staring Contest …
You may want to check out the comments …. there is hope out there for those who live in a reality based world.
Knacker74 is right. I went through 40 pages of thumbs up/down and the comments are 99% against the indians and more important, what the CBC has been pushing. Perhaps the CBC will get the hint. Nah…….I doubt it.
Watching that story for one minute told that the people in charge there are stupid nd corrupt. Kennedy being shown stonewalling and denying information to the third party manager is exactly what the problem is there. Time to tear up the treaties and fling them into the wind. This childish BS needs to stop and these people need to start taking responsibility.
Loved the part at the beginning of the video – “oh, oh, another wrinkle. The lot where the new houses are going is full of rusty broken pipes all frozen in the ice and snow”. Um, did anyone ever like, look?
You can’t fix stupid and you can’t help people who won’t help themselves. Defund them all.
East Liberals don’t like to work in the Winter.
All I got out of the link. “I’m helpless, give me more money”
dwright
These people are the most corrupt scum bags in Canada.
What’s this farce about “Idle No More” when they can’t get volunteers in Attawapiskat to distribute free goods and supplies? What the are they doing?
That’s something you’ll never read about on the CBC! Oh, wait.
All they’re asking is that treaties be honoured, and government and business stop slimily saying: “we honour our relationship with first nations, blah, blah, blah” while carving a pipeline through what’s left of the land we didn’t take from them.
Plus, you guys should all read what those lefties at the National Post had to say about Attawapiskats finances last year. http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/12/04/brett-hodnett-the-real-math-behind-attawapiskats-90-million/
Attawapiskat has a ‘conflict-of-interest’ policy. The chief and council decide if a conflict exists or not. http://www.attawapiskat.org/wp-content/uploads/Attawapiskat-First-Nation-Conflict-of-Interest-Policy.pdf
Also,I watched the Global show “the West Block” this morning. Ms. Palmater from “idle no more” was interviewed and asked if reserves should be moved from their isolated areas so the people would have a better chance to prosper.
She said ‘No,all they need to do well, is to share in the resources of Canada.’
BUT,but, but…Attawapiskat shares in the DeBeers diamond mine, and they are still a cesspool.
The treaties do not state that every company that does business in Canada must pay a fee to the First Communities. That is nonsense.
Things will not get better by increasing the handouts. The man who is considering moving his family has the right idea. Unfortunately, and this has been happening for many years, those who leave are the ones that would be most likely to improve the situation. The cesspool becomes denser with parasites when people like him leave.
Maybe Canadians that disagree with Spence and her buddies should boycott the casinos for a month.
Calgary has the ‘Grey Eagle’ casino. Casino Rama is owned by a native group, and funnels money to Spence.Maybe the CBC would help publicize this?
Robert L “Time to tear up the treaties and fling them into the wind.”
The other alternative is to follow the treaties which granted pretty close to nothing.
This morning on CTV some Toronto journalist was saying that what did we expect when we forced Indians to live on reserves, gave them the worst land, and wouldn’t allow them to farm or work. Rutherford said the statement simply wasn’t true but got cut off.
Bearing in mind that most of the treaties were signed before an agricultural economy developed, the Indians were often given the best properties on lakes where they could fish.
I’ve recently read 2 things that indicated that many Indian bands didn’t spend much time on the reserves. An inspection report about the Alexis band over 100 years ago found only a few old people on the reserve as the rest were away working which coincidentally is why residential schools were developed. The other was The Land of Open Doors by Bickersteth written in about 1912 in which he passes the whole Alexis Band on the trail returning from the country to the north along the Athabasca. 100 years ago, Indians were hard workers. It is true the white man ruined them – with welfare.
So she’s not fasting, not living in a tent, she’s not sick?? When’s the next reserve election so they can dump the fraud? I bet the reserve is finding it tough to convince Indian Affairs to give them discretionary grants.
Before the white man came, these people spent every waking moment struggling to survive in a relentless natural environment, they were not idle. Now, they survive on handouts and are idle.
wallj, exactly. There are though a number of reserves that have arrangements and do quite well with their share.
Scar, the Indians did not want to farm in the days when reserves where established, and still don’t. I live in Saskatchewan and in our area reserves rent land to white farmers because they don’t want to farm, just collect rent, twice if they can get away with it, and they sometimes try. I know of one native that does farm and he does very well at it.
Brian, the pipes were possibly deliberately put there after the site was chosen for that very reason. Just hypothesizing ….
This morning on CTV Question Period John Moore ( Newstalk 1010 Toronto)was talking nonsense
For John Moore to say natives were given the “crappiest land” is a stretch and very misleading
Sorry is the land in Ontario around Cornwall etc. crappy
In Mb. around Wpg. Brandon etc where there are several reserves crappy
In BC around Kamloops Penticton etc In Alta. all over the province “crappy”
Etc, etc. There are hundreds of examples of reserves being in areas of thriving non aboriginal communities and are not “crappy”
Certainly there are reserves in the far north where land is “crappy” from a agricultural standpoint – however were not that bad a place over a hundred years ago when treaties were drawn up because fishing and hunting was very productive and was their main source of livelihood. In today’s world it is a different story and these reserves are no longer economically feasible or functional
John Moore to say natives can’t leave and get a job off reserves
-Totally false everyone could and some did
John Moore said they weren’t allowed to run a business or any agriculture
That is nonsense as well because for example in Treaty 1
In lieu of a yoke of oxen for each reserve, a bull for each, and a cow for each Chief;
a boar for each reserve and a sow for each Chief, and a male and female of each kind of animal raised by farmers, these when the Indians are prepared to receive them.
A plough and a harrow for each settler cultivating the ground.
These animals and their issue to be Government property, but to be allowed for the use of the Indians, under the superintendence and control of the Indian Commissioner.
Keep in mind this is a treaty of over a hundred years ago so there was an actual encouragement for agriculture on reserves – John Moore should have done just a little research
There was also nothing to prevent them from running a business because some did and nothing in the treaties preventing them from doing so.
I don’t think some ppl realize how difficult it can be to stay poor with all that tax cash flowing into the reserve, it’s stressfull yah know!!!
If Indian status is such a great idea, let’s grant ALL Canadian citizens Indian status. Isn’t equality a fundamental right of Canadians? We will all be above the law and exempt from taxes. All Canadians can retire at birth, and be entitled to generous handouts in cash and in kind. Education, housing, food, and utilities will be free, and grossly overpaid sinecures will be available to those who choose to “govern” us.
Parliament can be disbanded, and replaced with an Assembly of First Nations. This organization will be similar to the former government, but limited to spending as there will no longer be any reason to tax anybody.
Free from time-wasting obligations such as work and taxes, Canadians will be able to spend their time self-actualizing at worthy artistic endeavours. Canada will enjoy a Renaissance.
There might be a few snags in time, but this policy would solve many of Canada’s problems.
Hmmm… Charlie Angus is on CTV saying that Spence has taken a turn for the worse, and is hospitalized and may be in a diabetic coma. But…..
I say ‘that is a load of brown bananas’.I say that the mouth of Chucky is spewing more nonsense. But maybe,a stopped clock is right twice a day.
BTW,this whole CTV page is a collection of Idle/Spence talking points. They are giving the cbc a run for our money.
Pam Palmater was on Global’s ‘West Block’ this morning saying that reserves should not be moved. All that is needed for prosperity is more sharing of Canada’s wealth with the natives as per the treaties. That went unchallenged,I suppose because bringing up Attawapiskat and DeBeer’s relationship,or mentioning that the natives don’t have any right to company’s profits would have been bad ‘journalism’. http://www.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=838031&playlistId=1.1102781&binId=1.810401
The Idle Some More crowd also blocked the Coho ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles WA, thinking it would make people sympathize with their misguided cause. Mixed in with them, of course, are the usual rent-a-crowd of leftists, enviro-twits and latte liberals.
ANd of course, the MSM only talks to the converted, despite even the CBC chatterboards showing overwhelming thimbs down to Chief Fish Broth
The Indian bands around Edmonton have some of the best farm land in Alberta. What’s more they are farming it quite successfully. Most of their equipment is top of the line. However as the farming operations supervisor said, “Don’t pay them too early on Friday”.
Chief Spence isn’t looking any thinner despite her ‘pie hole no more’ protest.
Pesky Injuns better watch it, or Chief Julian ‘Shaking Rabbit’ Fantino will come out of retirement and, and, and……..
Which explains why he and his successor leaders of the Liberal Party have been unable to win any elections since the one in 2004 (which he called at a time of his own convenience to try to escape the inconvenience of that missing money that he “wish[ed] we knew more” about; but, what the hey — why would a finance minister who signed off on a program know anything about it, anyway?).
Say what you will about Stephen Harper, it’s not really his schtick to glibly embrace, at twenty-four intervals, stupid and, in many cases, contradictory causes (“Bang on!”; “It’s my top priority!”) at clear variance with the thinking of normal Canadians.
Quite apart from which, I sincerely hope that Mr. Martin is finding retirement all he had hoped it would be!
Idle no more?
does that mean they’re finally getting jobs?
The biggest problem for Spence and the FN Idlers is that the astro-turfing isn’t working. The only folks showing up for these protests are the usual suspects. Less than 300 at the Peace Arch crossing yesterday and even fewer elsewhere. The media has gone full out to try and whip up grass-roots anger but it failed. If anything ordinary band members are even more upset with the chiefs and want change and see this idle business for what it is. They are NOT showing up to riot, even with the media doing their best to fan the flames. And I predict right here that this news of Spence checking into hotels will be the end of her diet PDQ.
Further to my post at 6:18 p.m., Charlie Angus has been thrown under the wheels of the bus,or the branches of the travois,so to speak.
He is the MP for that area.He championed Spence’s cause. He should be in the loop. But he is not. He is on TV giving false reports that Spence has been hospitalized and in a coma. Charlie would not have said that unless he was given the info from a trusted source.
Someone set him up. Someone that Charlie thought he could trust. Someone close to the chief. It makes me smile, welcome to the real world, dipper.
On a positive note, Chucky can run next election as a victim of racism.
Thanks for the heads up Wally. I can’t wait to see him cry.
Who the hell is Clayton Kennedy, aside from Chief Spend’s boyfriend? He neither looks like a Native nor talks like a Native. Is he a Native? What’s he doing as the band’s financial manager?
Surely, the band’s known for months that these modular homes were coming and could have checked the pipes leading into them, which are now deemed too rusty to be any good, thus replacing them will cause a significant delay in the modular homes’ installation.
It’s rich that CBC reporter Adrienne Arsenault is just now checking up on Attawapiskat: Might she have got a little “nudge” (wink, wink) from Ezra Levant’s stellar reporting on the Attawapiskat rez?
The CBC’s way behind the 8-ball on this one, like so much of its reporting …
Perhaps we should blockade the liquor stores and Bingo halls.I am so sick of these parasites and “Welfare Warriors” holding us hostage every time they don’t get their way. They get everything handed to them and still whine and cry.ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.!!!!
wallyj: “…under the branches of the travois”
Oh, that kills…rotfl
‘a sow for each Chief‘. Well, it certainly looks like they got one in Attawapiskat! Ok, so the inteprater got into the firewater a little too soon. It happens!
A local Idle No More “fan” is making noise about having a SECOND public protest. She worships the “sacred land” Spence craps on.
I guess blocking main street at noon, for twenty minutes with the RCMP diverting traffic, didn’t get the reaction she was looking for.
I’ll keep y’all posted.
Now we have the PC “hunger Strike”
Only on CBC would Spence be considered to be fasting.
Defund CBC.
batb, this report is from 2011,the CBC actually had a tiny bit of integrity left at that time.
On CTV news tonight they simply referred to Chief Spence’s “liquid only diet protest”….we have always been at war with Oceania!
Good work Ezra, good work.
CTV is promoting a ‘parody’ of PMSH that is apparently going viral. I won’t click on it.
Ezra or someone please PLEASE do a ‘parody’ of all the lib-lefty has beens fighting in line while they wait their turn for a photo op with the fish soup lady.
The CBC report was done in 2011.
Does that mean those six houses have been completed and families are living in them?
Am wondering also, are all those boxes of fire alarms, clothes etc. still sitting unused?
And the chief’s boyfriend is collecting how much a year did Ezra say??
The first party leader that says FU to FN extortion has my vote.
Even Tommy who is in hiding, even Justin who is blowing in the wind,if Lizzie stands up in front of this parade and says that the FN people are out of line, she has my vote.
This issue has been festering for way too long. FN people are not ‘one with the earth’,they do not have a special bond with ‘mother nature’.
They need help, lots of help, but pretending that their communities would be equal if we only gave a little bit more money and closed one eye and squinted out of the other and said ” hey, they are just like the rest of Canada, but special ” is not reality. It will just prolong the inevitable, which is total collapse on the reserves.
The internet will supply the information. The kids are getting smarter every generation. They will realize that their leaders, like Spence, are screwing them over. They will take care of business. It will not be pretty.
The incompetence exhibited in this video is unbelievable. To think that these people were once together enough to live in primitive conditions on the same land during a winter even colder than the current one.
The guy with the 8 kids who’s moving out has the best handle on the situation. Living in the middle of nowhere on welfare is a recipe for disaster. If these people were educated enough to be software developers, they’d have no problem living where they currently are as long as there’s a fast enough reliable internet connection. As it is, they just devolve further with each generation. The best thing that the federal government could do is to give every resident of that ghetto a lump sum payment and tell them what they do after that is up to them and that the financial tap is shut off.
I was under the impression that native Indians were nomadic in nature and moved to better hunting grounds when necessary. Time to bring back some of their ancient traditions which just might save a few of them. Unfortunately I suspect that the majority of the population are victims of welfare statism which has been far more deadly to this population than anything residential schools did.
The people of Canada are becoming totally fed up with the dual standard of justice that exists and, for those who’ve got the time, it would be worthwhile to perform identical acts of vandalism that native Indians have performed at the same spot under the watchful eye of the same statist goons. Then, get a lawyer like Doug Christie to force the crown to explain why one person is charged and not another. I’d be happy to contribute money for legal expenses in such a campaign.
the champ >
“These people are the most corrupt scum bags in Canada.”
One shot knockout!
I can’t bring myself to write more than a line about this sickening spectacle. These people ooze corruption like manufactured cartoon characters. A comedy screenwriter couldn’t make these people up in an over-characterization of a sleaze-ball couple.
It’s sort of surreal really.
It should be no surprise that MSM Reporters such as Stephen Maher are proclaiming a victory for Spence, due to Harper’s moving up the date of the meeting with the AFN to Jan.11.
It’s not just the salary paid Clayton Kennedy that should be under close scrutiny,it’s those “service” contracts to the tune of $325 million with Debeers that have to be examined,as in WHO owns the service companies and WHAT service do they actually provide?
The MSM has stated the contracts are with Attawapiskat companies, but from viewing that CBC report, you don’t get the impression that anyone on that Reserve is capable of running a company that can contract much in the way of services to a major player like Debeers.
Remember the good old days, when the MSM claimed that they always sought “WHO,WHAT,WHEN,WHERE,WHY”, when investigating a story?
Whatever happened to those principles?
Don’t I recall something about the Devil and idle hands?
I wonder how this affects Attawapiskats $100,000 shares of CN.
