Science published today yet-another-Mann-et-al-reconstruction
And nobody caught the part that was upside down.
Meanwhile, the timed-to-Copenhagen drumbeat of manufactured alarmism continues to rise unquestioned by a media too stupid to realize that increasingly large portions of their audience are already 7 days into this file. And that their late-to-the-game pronouncements about “a few emails” only reveal that they’re too damned lazy to look for themselves.
Yesterday, the emails were lying. Today, the satellites are lying.
Because a guy in a boat says so.
I feel as though I’ve woken up inside a Michael Crichton novel.

Hello Kate; Great work on this AGW scam. You seem to be one of only a few on net in Canada digging into “Climategate.
The scary part is that the Prime Minister and all western countries are about to commit billions to AGW and a world governing body in Copenhagen and the media is ignoring it.
Please keep on getting the truth out.
The Scientists At CRU were tools.
I want to know who is contoling these tools.
Al gore isn’t smart enough to enngineer this.
He is a bumbling fool and also a tool. I am thinking they are regretting their choice of frontmen. Obama is even stupider than gore.
Who is pulling the strings?
Murray Wood’s commentary today was ridiculous.
Actually if the media were ignoring it that would not have the dimensions and consequences.
The truth is being deliberately suppressed.
But then the MSM is as complicit as the creative book-keepers at CRU/IPCC. Expecting the MSM to report this is like expecting the SS and Gestapo to participate in a mutiny in 1944 against the Nazi government. Or the NKVD/KGB to overthrow Stalin.

Above is more from Dr Barber, now make sure you listen that he was in the Arctic in September on an Ice Breaker, the same one who cleared the NW Passage for the many tourists making the jaunt.
Imagine you keep moving an ice breaker through a path that you traversed earlier and you would expect to find what? A layer of ice overtop of broken ice perhaps?

Climategate: It’s the Totalitarianism, Stupid
“A successful political machine has to have monopoly control over the media, and it must be able to corrupt or coerce all the centers of power — the cops, the courts, the drug mafias, the businesses, the rackets. That’s how the global warming conspiracy operated.
Global warming was a fraud, and it has now been exposed.
That little fraud would have cost the taxpayers of the world trillions of dollars, not to mention wrecking their economies with carbon taxes and penalties.
But that’s not even the worst of it. The most important take home lesson is that global frauding was the clear and conscious work of a political machine aiming to steal your money, your liberties, and your country. It was a massive, worldwide attempt at a coup d’etat, and the victims were going to include all the free and prosperous peoples of the world. Hitler had his Reichstag fire. Today’s transnational left had its global warming fraud. The political goal was exactly the same: maximum power through maximum fear.
Melanie Phillips, writing in the Spectator, has it exactly right in a column called “Green Totalitarianism”:
All the manipulation, distortion and suppression revealed by these emails took place because it would seem these scientists knew their belief was not only correct but unchallengeable; and so when faced with evidence that showed it was false, they tried every which way to make the data fit the prior agenda. And those who questioned that agenda themselves had to be airbrushed out of the record, because to question it was simply impossible. Only AGW zealots get to decide, apparently, what science is. Truth is what fits their ideological agenda. Anything else is to be expunged. … [W]hat we are dealing with here is the totalitarian personality. One thing is now absolutely clear for all to see about the anthropogenic global warming scam: science this is not.”

Put this in a longer-term perspective of political science.
The Piltdown Man scam goes back nearly 100 years ago.
As I have posted here in the past, political scientists started corrupting the traditional mission of science, that is pursuit of the truth, for much longer than people realize.
Put it this way … there’s a reason the Theory of Evolution is still a theory; much in the same way Einstein’s Theory of Relativity is still a theory.
The technique of the AGW politicials was to declare the science ‘settled’ and then set about to control the information flow.
As the Wall Street Journal headline stated yesterday:
How to Forge a Consensus.
What has become apparent is the science really does not matter’ what’s important is to ‘progress’ humanity.
Much blood was spilled in the Utopian political systems of the early 20th century that arose out of the early political scientists adaptation of Darwin’s discoveries into warped totalitarian systems.
Survival of the fittest? Would that be the ruling elites who know better how to run our lives than we do.
Proveable science is incidental to these modern-age barbarians, who have no regard for human life and whose main mission is to exploit those they consider their inferiors.
Don’t give up the fight!
The MSM has circled their wagons and will not let those pesky upstarts in the blogosphere penetrate their defenses. It’s a become a farce that puts the fairy tale about the emperor’s new clothes to shame.
BYW, my favourite scare story was this one:
Women hit hardest by climate change
set you free
over the top (and ridiculous) commentary such as yours does not HELP the cause, it gives the AGW crowd a legitimate to ridicule
the theory of evolution and relativity, and their “development”, have nothing to do with this global warming farce, nor does the science used to develop them, nor the scientists that developed them
Steyn has coined the perfect name for the transnational enviro jihadis . .
“Tranzis”
has that nice totalitarian ring to it.
They know what is best for us so just lay back & enjoy it.
orvict: three letters – K, G, B.

It’s going to take a lot for these green tentacles to get weeded out of every part of our society. For crying out loud, I read a gardening magazine last year complaining how disastrous global warming would be to gardeners everywhere because the weeds would grow 10 times bigger. A gardening magazine!!!!! I can’t escape the insanity!
So ridiculous!

GYM:
My point is that political scientists have been corrupting the pursuit of truth for much longer than people realize.
Not sure why you have a problem with that statement.
AGW is a fraud. How many other frauds are there not based on scientific fact, but rather are political constructs which cloak themselves in scientific legitimacy?
Piltdown Man is a totally legitimate example of a historical fraud perpetrated in an attempt to advance political science.
I’m sure you’re intelligent enough to at least figure that out.
Here’s Susan Riley in today’s Ottawa Citizen:
“Meanwhile, climate-change deniers (if only they were right) continue their relentless campaign to protect polluting industries, emboldened by leaked e-mails purporting to show leading climate scientists making things sound worse than they are.”
So there it is:
People who want to know the truth and expect scientists to behave in good faith are “deniers” — like nuts who deny that the Holocaust ever happened.
They deny because they want to protect polluting industries.
No mention of the stacks of documents that were leaked, only of emails; and no effort to explain the utterly damning evidence that those emails (and documents) provide.
The “deniers” have been “emboldened” — as though they’re only engaged in a game of gotcha rather than opposed to the completely pointless upheaval of developed economies.
And the emails are only about scientists “purporting” to make things sound worse than they are. Nothing about attempts to destroy careers of people who don’t agree, to block freedom of information requests on the flimsiest grounds, including through the illegal destruction of evidence, to obstruct the publication of conflicting articles by subverting the editorial process, to manufacture evidence to suit a predetermined conclusion … and so on.
No, it’s all about a bunch of slack-jawed deniers.
“Fred”‘s joke about State Pen may show a Pennsylvania influence – both the main campus
of the Pennsylvania State University and the State Correctional Institute Rockview are located in Centre County, a few miles apart, and there are
stories of visitors to Penn State going to “State Pen”. Pennsylvanians take crime and punishment seriously; it’s not the best place in the US to break a major law. “State Pen” has the PA execution chamber, housed in a severe Neoclassical building of some architectural distinction
known as – the Execution Building.
The “global warming” nonsense may indeed be the
greatest scientific fraud ever. It is certainly
notable for the vicious attacks on anyone who
questions the received dogma. I’d rather argue
in public with Lenin than with these creatures.
The leadup to Copenhagen does
seem to be orchestrated.
SYF …GYM doesn’t get it. Save your energy.
Agreed about the lazy MSM:
Had to listen to Terry Milewski on CBC. (I always check the level of propaganda while driving)
He informed us that PMSH is known as a ‘laggard'(shades of Fifer and the knuckldragging remark) as far as Climate change, and that PMSH must be ‘feeling the pressure’ and that is why he changed his mind about attending Copenhagen.
Funny that: the PPG continues to whine about PMSH not meeting with them, but they will continue to tell us how he ‘feels’.Twits.
You are so right Kate. I was yelling at the radio.
Kate – actually, I believe it’s Crichton, not Crighton.
bluetech:
I’m going to our local MP’s Christmas Party tonight and will bring up this topic.
Here’s the problem. Since he is a politician, there’s a danger that he may just go along with the New World Order project which incoming EU president Rumpey said this was all about.
One more reason to like Harper, though.
I get the sense that he, like us, will not be sucked in by this latest political science fraud.
Crichton’s “State of Fear” started with a few ‘unexplained murders’.
For that reason alone I hope the hackers/informers come forward soon…for their own good.

I am a young climate researcher (just received my master’s degree from xxx University) and have been very troubled by the emails that were released from CRU. I just want to applaud and support your response on climateaudit.org [95% of it 🙂 ]. Your statement represents exactly how I have felt as I slowly enter this community. The content of some of the emails literally made me stop and wonder if I should continue with my PhD applications for fall 2010, in this science. I was so troubled by how our fellow scientists within the climate community have been dealing with opposing voices (on both sides). I hope we can all learn from this and truly feel that we are going to need voices like yours to fix these problems in the coming months and years.”

“*An open letter to graduate students and young scientists in fields related to climate research from Dr. Judith Curry regarding hacked CRU emails
November 27, 2009
I have known Dr. Judith Curry, Chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology, for many years. I have interviewed her a number of times and quoted her work on the hurricane-warming connection at length for my 2006 book, “Hell and High Water: Global Warming — the Solution and the Politics.” Later, I spent a day giving talks with her in various Florida cities. She is a first rate scientist (CV here) and someone I have great respect for. Her past public statements and articles on climate change can be found here. As is the case with other guest bloggers on CP, I do not agree with everything she writes here. But the hacked CRU emails raise important issues, I believe scientists should keep maintaining considerably higher standards than their critics, and I think her views deserve to be read and debated widely. Comments are greatly desired, as always.
An open letter to graduate students and young scientists in fields related to climate research
Based upon feedback that I’ve received from graduate students at Georgia Tech, I suspect that you are confused, troubled, or worried by what you have been reading about ClimateGate and the contents of the hacked CRU emails. After spending considerable time reading the hacked emails and other posts in the blogosphere, I wrote an essay that calls for greater transparency in climate data and other methods used in climate research. The essay is posted over at climateaudit.org (you can read it at http://camirror.wordpress.com/ 2009/ 11/ 22/ curry-on-the-credibility-of-climate-research/ ).
What has been noticeably absent so far in the ClimateGate discussion is a public reaffirmation by climate researchers of our basic research values: the rigors of the scientific method (including reproducibility), research integrity and ethics, open minds, and critical thinking. Under no circumstances should we ever sacrifice any of these values; the CRU emails, however, appear to violate them.
My motivation for communicating on this issue in the blogosphere comes from emails that I received from Georgia Tech graduate students and alums. As a result of my post on climateaudit, I started receiving emails from graduate students from other universities. I post the content of one of the emails here, without reference to the student’s name or institution:” (more)

You can’t be labeled a “denier” unless there is verifiable evidence for the fact being denied. If Susan Riley has verifiable evidence for man-made global warming then she should, for once in her career as a drive-by smear journalist, either put up or sfu.

Susan Riley’s credibility was shot a long time ago.
Being on the wrong side of history on this issue will only confirm the irrelevance of her political stance.

“UEA Climate Scientist: “possible that…I.P.C.C. has run its course”
27 11 2009
This is a surprise. Professor Mike Hulme of the University of East Anglia suggests that the “I.P.C.C. has run its course”. I agree with him. We really need to remove a wholly political organization, the United Nations, from science.”
“Republished from New York Times Reporter Andrew Revkin’s Dot Earth:
Dot Earth: Insights from Mike Hulme at the University of East Anglia, which was the source of the disclosed files. Hulme, a climate scientist at the University of East Anglia and author of “ Why We Disagree About Climate Change,” has weighed in with these thoughts about the significance of the leaked files and emails. In November 2009, Hulme was listed as “the 10th most cited author in the world in the field of climate change, between 1999 and 2009. (ScienceWatch, Nov/Dec 2009, see Table 2).
Hulme Key Excerpt:
[Upcoming UN climate conference in Copenhagen] “is about raw politics, not about the politics of science. […] It is possible that climate science has become too partisan, too centralized. The tribalism that some of the leaked emails display is something more usually associated with social organization within primitive cultures; it is not attractive when we find it at work inside science. It is also possible that the institutional innovation that has been the I.P.C.C. has run its course. Yes, there will be an AR5 but for what purpose? The I.P.C.C. itself, through its structural tendency to politicize climate change science, has perhaps helped to foster a more authoritarian and exclusive form of knowledge production – just at a time when a globalizing and wired cosmopolitan culture is demanding of science something much more open and inclusive.
Full Hulme Statement:
The key lesson to be learned is that not only must scientific knowledge about climate change be publicly owned — the I.P.C.C. does a fairly good job of this according to its own terms — but the very practices of scientific enquiry must also be publicly owned, in the sense of being open and trusted. From outside, and even to the neutral, the attitudes revealed in the emails do not look good. To those with bigger axes to grind it is just what they wanted to find.
This will blow its course soon in the conventional media without making too much difference to Copenhagen — after all, COP15 is about raw politics, not about the politics of science. But in the Internet worlds of deliberation and in the ‘mood’ of public debate about the trustworthiness of climate science, the reverberations of this episode will live on long beyond COP15. Climate scientists will have to work harder to earn the warranted trust of the public – and maybe that is no bad thing.
But this episode might signify something more in the unfolding story of climate change. This event might signal a crack that allows for processes of re-structuring scientific knowledge about climate change.” (more)

More on NIWA’s chicanery:
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/27/more-on-the-niwa-new-zealand-data-adjustment-story/#more-13287
“Here’s the rub. Up until 1927, temperatures for Wellington had been taken at Thorndon, only 3 m above sea level and an inner-city suburb. That station closed and, as I suspected in my earlier post, there is no overlap data allowing a comparison between Thorndon and Kelburn, where the gauge moved, at an altitude of 135 metres.
With no overlap of continuous temperature readings from both sites, there is no way to truly know how temperatures should be properly adjusted to compensate for the location shift.
Wratt told Investigate earlier there was international agreement on how to make temperature adjustments, and in the news release tonight he elaborates on that:
“Thus, if one measurement station is closed (or data missing for a period), it is acceptable to replace it with another nearby site provided an adjustment is made to the average temperature difference between the sites.”
Except, except, it all hinges on the quality of the reasoning that goes into making that adjustment. If it were me, I would have slung up a temperature station in the disused location again and worked out over a year the average offset between Thorndon and Kelburn. It’s not perfect, after all we are talking about a switch in 1928, but it would be something. But NIWA didn’t do that.”
Massaging data with carefree abandon…

Actually Science has never been the Unvarnished Seeker of Truth. It has since, Eve ate the apple, been the private domain of the private individual and that private individual’s fellow travelers. The only part that concerns me is when one group triumphs over society as a whole leaving in it wake societal chaos.
Of course the difference with AGW is that there was never any “science” involved. It has been entirely based on Speculation. Speculation is the only explanation that fits the attempted use of tree rings, ice cores, swamp sediments etc to indicate past temperatures.

Really? Science has never been the unvarnished seeker of truth?

The more time I spend analyzing this issue, the closer I come to the conclusion that the main problem with the computer climate models is that they try to cover far too many bases. Over time, the data base becomes too unwieldy to make sense, so “massaging” it becomes essential.
It’s one thing to graph temperature readings for one weather station at one elevation over time, and then overlay this graph with ones from other stations, but when you start trying to create one graph using data from thousands of stations all at different elevations all over the bloody planet, it’s no surprise that you run into grief. It’s like hoping that you can create a five-second sound bite that conveys the complete meaning of a two-hour documentary.
The grief gets compounded when stations move or find themselves surrounded by suburbs over time. Are the changes in readings merely a consequence of changes to their surroundings, or an indication of some actual cooling or warming trend? Then there are stations that cease to exist. This creates “gaps” in the data. So what do you do about that? Extrapolate from other stations or just forget about them? It’s tempting to employ “tricks” to create common denominators where none actually exist.
Rather than question the usefulness of the whole bloated enterprise, the people at the CRU seem to have opted to stack complexity upon complexity and employ confusing mathematical formulas to try and sort out the truth. What the hacked emails indicate is that the whole process got so frustrating and convoluted that someone decided it was time to expose the whole sordid process.
These climate models remind me of econometric models that purport to gauge the effects of various kinds of tax or fiscal policies upon the state of the government’s finances or the whole economy. These models wind up trying to compare things for which there is no common denominator, and invariably wind up being completely wrong. Their purpose is merely to generate talking points for politicians to promote one policy or another; the fact that these predictions usually wind up being wildly inaccurate over time is rarely mentioned.
Similarly, the purpose of the climate “models” is to provide politicians with a talking point with which to advance some broader political agenda. And if they shower the right academics with sufficient grant money, they will get the talking points they need.
