Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Reader Tips and SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, I have made newly available a rare performance from our SDA LNR studio collection of vintage 45 RPM singles. Here are Australia’s own Johnny Chester & the Chessmen performing The Old Copper Kettle, ca. 1960, this pressing by Canadian KiM records, K.M.1688, CT-30765, originally from W&G Recording in Australia. I would argue that one needs to listen to the end of this work ~ it’s only two minutes ~ to fully appreciate it, but I don’t want to say any more ’cause that would spoil it.
Your Reader Tips are of course, as always, welcome in the comments.

In the song there was mention of going down by the Murray river, which is in Oz, but if that is an Ozzie singing, he is doing a pretty good job of hiding the accent.
Sorry Vit,but now I’m confuzzed. Wgat time is 12:01 AM SDA time compared to MDT? 🙂
Did you know you can buy a USB connected Turntable to play these old classic records? I saw them at Costco.

I booted up the post by two hours, Justthinkin, even though I argued against that in yesterday’s Reader Tips, specifically because yesterday’s Reader Tips entry has not been accepting comments all day (which is probably why Kate posted the test comment above), and because some of the folks in the kvetch-o-sphere had been mentioning that in other entries, which it is the purpose of the Reader Tips entry to help avoid. So while I was prepared to wait strategically until 00:00 SDA time, tactically I decided to go ahead with 22:00ish for tonight only.
At first It jolted me into thinking this was a vid of Al Gore or our own Keystone cops, the HRC’s star investigators. I still think there Aliens just not the green kind, more rosy pink with green stripes if you get me.

cal2 inquiry on “High Strangeness in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada”.
http://www.earthfiles.com/news.php?ID=1429&category=Environment
Strange, alright !!
From the article cal2 was refering to;
[Sightings have been reported throughout the length of the lake, but the monster appears to favor an area just south of Kelowna in waters near Peachland. It is usually reported as dark blue, black or brown with a lighter underside. It can move with astounding speed, but many sightings in calm weather have been made of the creature apparently feeding on either fish or aquatic weeds.] Earthfiles
We live just south of Kelowna, between Peachland & Kelowna. In 4 years we have NEVER heard of anyone seeing Ogopogo.
Ogopogo is a standing, light hearted joke here. Periodically, wave forms do travel great distances across the lake, even in calm waters, and phase with other waves and, when viewed from the hills above, do make ‘snake-like’ patterns that can travel rather quickly. When the light is just right, the shadow of the wave is much darker than the surrounding water.
UFOs in the Okanagan ?
[Only one year ago on Monday, July 2, 2007, around 10:45 to 11 PM, several eyewitnesses from the Kelowna to Winfield region of Lake Okanagan saw differently shaped aerial craft, which seemed to be at war with each other.] Earthfiles
We were here on that date – never saw anything and never heard of anyone else seeing anything.
Even in July, at 10:45PM, it is very dark here. (Hills, plus the fact that Kelowna is near the eastern edge of the time zone. ( Kelowna city lights are not all that bright)
Because of the hills, we often see vehicle lights that appear to be up in the sky. When a few of them are travelling along winding, hilly roads amongst trees, they appear as flickering beads – at times hovering in the distance when travelling towards you or speeding along when their motion is near perpendicular to your line of sight.
[Fifteen minutes later at 11 PM, another eyewitness of warring UFOs in Westbank near Kelowna also saw a flaming object splash into Lake Okanagan and from there, rose back out of the water chasing after another aerial object in the sky.] EF
We live in Westbank, over looking the lake – never saw, heard anything of the sort. To my knowledge, no one else did either. (Just to note, Fireworks are a very common occurence here)
“She says if John McCain gets elected, she will move to Italy or Canada. I wouldn’t vote for Condoleezza Rice if she was running, and I hated Margaret Thatcher.”
SUSAN SARANDON threatens to move if her beloved Obama isn’t elected. Just what we need, another lefty POS. If she can’t emigrate she will probably stamp her foot and hold her breath until she turns blue, what a maroon.
RE: Sarandon.
Weren’t her and Tim Robbins planning on moving to Canada in 2004 if Bush got re-elected?
Scott – yes they were – along with Alec Baldwin. I guess the taxes here weren’t conducive to a lifestyle of giving… or maybe they’re all just full of sh*t. Yeah, I think that’s it!

Sing along!
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you’re chewing life’s gristle,
Don’t grumble,
Give a whistle
And this’ll help things turn out for the best.
And…
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistle]
Always look on the light side of life.
[whistle]
If life seems jolly rotten,
There’s something you’ve forgotten,
And that’s to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you’re feeling in the dumps,
Don’t be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle.
That’s the thing.
And…
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistle]
Always look on the right side of life,
[whistle]
For life is quite absurd
And death’s the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It’s your last chance, anyhow.
So,…
Always look on the bright side of death,
[whistle]
Just before you draw your terminal breath.
[whistle]
Life’s a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life’s a laugh and death’s a joke it’s true.
You’ll see it’s all a show.
Keep ’em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And…
Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life.
[whistle]

TORONTO — A new Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey suggests that fewer than three-quarters of Canadians believe in a god.”
Notice…..virtually 3/4 DO believe in a God (I capitalized the word….unlike the Canadian “Press”) and only 23% do not, but yet the headline says “Many Canadians don’t believe in a god.”
Deal or no deal? Susan Sarandon has promised to leave the US and go to Italy or Canada if McCain wins as president.
How do you beat a deal like that? You get a Republican president AND you get rid of a lefty.
Only thing is, Susan, Canada is cold and full of nasty things, but I hear Italy is quite nice.

“It seems an obvious conclusion, then, that the constant Leftist excoriation of Hitler and the Nazis stems not from the unique horribleness of Nazism but has as its main aim an effort at camouflage — an effort to disguise or hide from public awareness the real kinship that exists between Nazism and other forms of Leftism.”

Yes, john luft, the MSM translation of statistics is fun, isn’t it? The poll, for whatever it’s worth, says that 72% of Canadians believe in a god. And 23% are atheists.
Yet the headline claims that ‘many’ don’t believe in god. How does 23% become ‘many’???
I’m an atheist, and unlike AQS, I think for myself; I don’t need to have my opinion linked to others in order for me to feel comfortable with that conclusion. What I am very uncomfortable with, is the abuse of data by the MSM, who translated 23% to ‘many’.
Governments rubbed their hands with glee when personal income tax came into force.

But with a carbon tax they hit the big time. They tax movement.
Better yet, realize each human exhales about 1 kg of carbon dioxide a day.

“Very little of this change makes headlines in the newspapers”
…-
“Navigating the Perfect Wave: The Canadian Military Facing its Most Significant Change in 50 Years
Introduction
The conflict in Afghanistan is entering its seventh year, and the Canadian Forces is in the middle of it. Daily events on the ground, in and around Kandahar, are receiving constant coverage in our national newspapers, on television, and on the Internet, and the issues surrounding a future government’s decision to extend, or not, Canada’s military participation at the end of the current mandate in February 2009 are generating much discussion and debate.
While the conflict in Afghanistan is continuing, the CF is facing unprecedented change, on a scale unseen in nearly 50 years. Very little of this change makes headlines in the newspapers, and, except for a few military analysts, few people outside the military are taking notice. What is even more remarkable is that most people inside the Department of National Defence (DND) do not have the time to reflect upon the scope of the change, being too busy leading change initiatives and managing the consequences. I believe the change environment we are facing is without precedent for the Forces, and the key decisions we are now taking will shape the CF for years to come. This was the case with many of the fundamental reforms that took place in the 1960s.
There are three fundamental currents driving this change.” …-

There’s something to be said for the niceness and politeness of Canadians, saying thank you and being concerned with a stranger, being helpful and all that. By the same token, I would wish for Canada and my fellow Canadians to include in that politeness a kind of drive that occasionally results in a little ass kicking.

“Burma policy costs lives, says US”
US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has accused Burma of causing the loss of tens of thousands of lives by hindering international cyclone relief efforts.
Mr Gates said the United States had had ships and aircraft ready to help after Cyclone Nargis hit a month ago.
Unlike Indonesia and Bangladesh after major natural disasters, Burma had denied entry to the country, he said.
An estimated 2.4m people remain homeless and hungry following the cyclone, which struck on 2 May.
“Many other countries besides the United States also have felt hindered in their efforts,” said Mr Gates, speaking at a security conference in Singapore.”

An photo exhibit at UBC`s library featuring Canadian soldiers has elcited predictable responses from students. Here are some of their comments from the `comments` book next to the exhibit:

“This is a university, not an armed forces recruiting centre. Take it away.”

To Stan. Susan Sarandon is not your average Yankee Doodle Doo. Who can afford to move to Italy?? Typical socialist moron!! Democracy is great, just as long they get their way, and the rest of us don’t interfere. When it was to her advantage to play the part off a Southern Redneck in the movie Thelma and Louise, guns and violence were OK. Of course now she’s made her fortune, she can afford to be obnoxious. I hope she runs into a Mafia shootout!!

As with oil also, the question always is; what is the true price of a commodity ? Nothing, but nothing determines that better than the market.
The real price is what the seller is willing to sell at and the buyer is willing to pay. Simple.
But, as I believe is the case today with oil, soybeans, corn, ect, a problem arises when rampant speculation drives wild gyrations in the futures markets – sometimes causing financial ruin to the essential players – farmers, oil producers, consumers, motorists, ect.
Perhaps the hedge funds, pension funds are far beyond the accepted role of providing liquidity to the market and are into market manipulation. Attempted manipulation, that is. For it is a zero sum game and there will be huge losses as well as gains. For someone with a pension plan or already on a pension – scary !!

TV Network Tells Kids How Long Their Carbon Footprint Should Allow Them to Live:
http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2008/05/31/tv-network-tells-kids-when-their-carbon-footprint-will-kill-them/
This fetid eco-brainwashing is courtesy of the Australian Broadcasting Network.
This is beyond over the top. According to the site, the average carbon footprint says you should die at age nine. Have they no shame?
At the time a Gulfstream II jet, packed with nearly four tons of cocaine, crashed in Mexico’s Yucatan on Sept. 24 of last year, the owners of that jet were Clyde O’Connor and Greg Smith — both pilots who hail from Florida.
Both men have since vanished like vapor in the wake of that ill-fated Gulfstream II’s misadventure, but the paper trail has now caught up to them. The Gulfsteam II jet (with the tail number N987SA) has been linked to past use in the CIA’s terrorist rendition program, according to media reports and an investigation by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
And now, via FAA and other documents obtained by Narco News, both Smith and O’Connor have been connected to yet another jet that has been used by U.S. government agencies (including the DEA, FBI and CIA) to advance covert operations targeting Latin America.

Is this true??? If the Liberal leadership contenders or any political candidate with outstanding debts don’t have them paid off they cannot stand for re-election until they do.
If this is true then Dion, Iggy, Kennedy, etc. CAN’T RUN if there is an election called.
Could this be the REAL reason Liberals have not voted against the conservatives? Their own leader and Deputy Leader would be disqualified from seeking public office because of outstanding election debts.
