Check this little nugget out at Angry In The Great White North;
“Costs for the controversial gun registry program could continue to “spiral out of control” unless the government takes steps to curb spending, an external audit warns.”
I’m not sure about this audit for two reasons. First, the very next paragraph refers to the same document as a “financial report”, which I don’t believe is as stringent as an audit, nor does it have the same goals. Second, the audit or financial report or whatever it is was prepared by Hill & Knowlton, which is not really an audit firm, but a firm that specializes in “public relations, public affairs and strategic communications” providing such esoteric services such as “reputation management”.
Not only did the Libranos hire a spin firm to create this report on the gun registry, they’ve censored much of what they found.

The spin in the Liberal ranks is everywhere. John Williams just stated on Dave Rutherford’s talk show that it was the Liberals that approached the CPC re the delay of the “Gay” legislation if the CPC go along with the NDP budget ammendments, NOT the other way around!
The following announcement was made on May 25th, 2005: The federal Liberals would consider ignoring a House of Commons defeat should they lose any of the several coming votes that are matters of confidence between now and the end of the spring session, Chief Government Whip Karen Redman says. !!! We wont be taking any lessons from the Parliamentary pedants who inhabit the government benches.
The aforementioned statement in effect suggests that we will inaugurate a period of taxation without representation. I congratulate the Chief Government Whip for renewing and modernizing the 1837 Rebellion. Perhaps we should be loading our muskets with ball and shot right about now; given the government has departed the democratic mortal coil.
I gather we now have the rationale for the ill reputed gun registry.
Ms. Redmans statement has to number among the most inflammatory and incendiary since the demagogues mounted the Bema on the Pynx, Acropolis.
But an attempt to turn the right of election into such a farce and mockery as a fictitious fine and recovery, will, I hope, have another fate; because the laws which give it are infinitely dear to us, and the evasion is infinitely contemptible.
. I see no other way for the preservation of a decent attention to public interest in the Representatives, but THE INTERPOSITION OF THE BODY OF THE PEOPLE ITSELF, whenever it shall appear, by some flagrant and notorious act, by some capital innovation, that these Representatives are going to over-leap the fences of the law, and to introduce an arbitrary power. This interposition is a most unpleasant remedy. But, if it be a legal remedy, it is intended on some occasion to be used; to be used then only, when it is evident that nothing else can hold the Constitution to its true principles. Edmund Burke, THOUGHTS ON THE PRESENT DISCONTENTS
I gather the time to lock and load has come, if they keep this nonsense up.
Before the Liberals would say “so what if we waste money on this registry, at least it’s saving lives.” Or so they think.
The gun registry was never intended to deal with armed criminals- it’s purpose is to protect the criminals in office from citizens with guns.
Call me crazy, but I have an idea. Could it be that, by calling it an “audit”, the expenditure of public funds escapes scrutiny. After all, if they spent Canadian tax dollars on a partisan spin ploy, the Ontario electorate could become outraged for several minutes or more.
The gun registry was never intended to deal with armed criminals- it’s purpose is to follow Aldoph Hitlers Ideals. Find out were all the guns are so we can take them away when this start to get icky.
Since the schools are not teaching it, I am teaching it, every night at the family dinner table: the Libranos were defeated in Parliament, and ignored it. Then they announced that they intended to ignore any future defeats. We must ensure that they cannot rely on the ignorance of the population. Insufficient detail is presented about our system of government in our public schools. Correct this at home.
It also time to abolish the office of Governor General. The role is beyond useless: it is a net negative drain on our society. Her Pompousness had the opportunity to sustain some degree of relevance to the office, and wasted it.
AT this point, liberals are incapable of telling the truth.
but Harper is “angry” and needs a makeover. Gaaawwwwwddddd!
It is time to get rid of Stephen Harper. I nominate Stockwell Day – he is looking better and better everyday. Its obvious to me that Harper’s leadership has gotten us nothing but polls going further south. Let’s face facts, most Canadians would not vote for him, if he is not replaced soon he’ll destroy the party.
Hancor expresses logic and reason for advancing upon the hill with ball, shot and musket at the ready. Well not exactly.
The expression is elegant, but in Labatts Blue language, we should at least Walk, March, Sit-in and demonstrate with placards.
Very TV visual, dontcha know.
Each person should have copies of a carefully worded news release listing all the more recent crimes of the flim-flaming Liberanos.
It is possible the media may cover the event and in an unguarded moment, mention the news release.
Walking about the Parliament Buildings or in front of he Governor General’s mansion seems like a good place to start.
If no one expresses our point of view, the chances the MSM will are remote.
It’s not against the law. it’s good exercise, it’s summer time. What more do we need?

Stirred, Stock’s day is done (:-)Do you see happy Libs? No. Why? Because Harper has a lock on SSM issue and somewhere, there is a poll showing that he is more popular than Martin, and the Tories are closing in. No time to change horses in midstream.
As for the gun registry, Alan Rock, minister of justice at the time, pegged the registry at $2 million. He’s now at the UN. Nice to be a Liberal, hm? He’s also responsible for the Airbus fiasco that cost Canadians $50 million. How come Ontarians are so forgiving?
TonyGuitar:
I sent the paragraph above, as part of a longer letter, to our ‘learned’ Prime Minister, Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, and Leader of the BQ and NDP.
I suggested being locked and loaded, I did not suggest: Ready, Aim, Fire!! As per the National Anthem “WE STAND ON GUARD FOR THEE”. Step out of democratic line again and you can draw you own conclusions…
The government now proposes further undemocratic behaviour, with respect to further confidence votes under cutting the notion of democracy itself; advancing in effect the proposition of taxation without representation. So much for the promise of correcting the democratic deficit; it would appear to have rather significantly increased to the point of disenfranchisement.
When your vote is gone or rendered a nullity by ignoring confidence votes… then you go to war per Edmund Burke.
In the meantime, by all means use peaceful protest as a first step, even your guitar.
Wasn’t that a WHO song “my guitar and my pen!!”
I have yet to get a “considered reply” from the offending parties which I gather will come in due course.
Hans Rupprecht,
Sie warten mit verhaltenem atem.
Nicht wahr?

Holding your breath, is usually done when squeezing off a round; so you acurately hit your target. (Preferrably at the shooting range)
More seriously, my family has over the course of five generations variously survived the machinations of Bismarck, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, and Erich Honnecker. We will be taking no more lessons in despotism and blind stupidity, as we have completed our historical tour of duty. We have greater self respect than mere cannon fodder of ages past and have the medals to prove it.
It will take a little more than Parliamentary Philistinism to put us on the other side of the lawn.
With kind regards
Hans
Having been politically active the last 15 years to repeal this horrendous registry farce, all I can add to these constant revelations of fraud 10 years after the fact is: told ya so.
When myself and contemporaries in the responsible sport shooting organizations gave evidence to committee at bill C-68s public hearings, we ( and others) estimated the system , as envisioned, would come in at a price tag closer to 2 billion rather than the 2 million ( cost recovered) price tag Rock promised to get the bill passed. Our estimate was based on what the RCMP records show it costs to register a handgun then we extraporlated this times the number of guns and the number of gun transfers a year.( a friend in parliament is searching for the committee minutes so we have the satisfaction of proving we warned this government accurately 10 years ago of this over cost)
Anyone who has followed the twisted cover up in the registry cost accounting will recall the findings of the last AG’s audit implicated justice ministers and deputy ministers in an act of defrauding parliament and the capital projects funding committee with false figures and excuses for registry funding….but none of this will ever be acted upon until the liberals sit in opposition.
If you read Fraser’s audit report you will note that one of the Adscam players was pulling patronage cash from the registry funds and 2 other IT contractors sold shoddy systems for big bucks to the registry admin. which was instrumental in over costs.
If one reads the findings of the string of (buried liberal) audits the registry system has had, one gets the distinct impression it (the gun registry law) was constructed and operated as if it was never intended to function at its’ stated purpose….that smooth operation and stated legislative goals were an after thought to a more base unstated directive to spread largess among a usual array of party patronage clients and have a little fun criminally harassing the nation’s duck hunters and gopher shooters.
This observation ties into a comment I made previously on the justice system/minister….it appears Liberal justice ministers are conflicted as the result of their dyslexic definitions of exactly what “justice” is and what constitutes a “crime”.
The public money spent needlessly and unethically in the registry, without any substantive results, and the administrative effect of it’s regulations (to make criminals of people who have committed no criminal acts with paperwork) is more appropriately refered to as a capital crime.
http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/breitkreuzgpress/2005_june_16.htm
Did they at least get all the guns and gun owners registered???
They didn’t need 2 billion dollars in their patronage client’s pockets to reduce legitimate firearms owners….they have done that administratively and it didn’t take any more than a press release to the consumers of MSM drek.
As a matter of operational neccesity, the Firearms center administration “killed off” millions of firearms owners. Not literally or realistically but officially ….with paperwork.
The RCMP had estimated gun ownership at 7.2 owners with 11 million firearms based on surveys and sales records
http://www.nfa.ca/articles/for-journalists/the-number-of-firearms-and-firearms-owners-in-canada-2.html
When the deadline for gunowners was drawing to a close, and it became apparent to the bureaucrats that the majority of Canadians were not coming forward to comlpy with registering themselves, they proceeded to lower the “estimated” number of firearms owners in Canada 3 separate times until they ended up with a figure that was 10% shy of the compliance level to date……millions of gun owners “vanished” through administrative stealth.
They didi the same thing with the number of firearms in Canada as the firearms registration deadline approached
http://www.garrybreitkreuz.com/breitkreuzgpress/GunControl50.htm
Common resistance to what many percieved as malicious government intent has take millions of formerly legal gunowners and illions more guns out of control of the system…..now don’t you feel more secure for your 2 billion dollar tab?
BTW: 10 years ago if you made these rational argument or offered evidence the system was fatally flawed and ineffective you were branded a gun toting mouth-breather and asasinated by any media wonk….how times change.
It bothers me though that it takes a decade for Canadians to finally see the realities…shows how dumb we are kept and how deeply corrupted MSM info systems are in sceeching down dissent to the hot lib-left policy initiative to the day….but hey, the registry may be a stinking mess…but that Steven Harper is scary…needs a make over. Good freekin’ grief!
A friend asked my help to transport a 25 weapons collection for update registration at the local RCMP shop.
It would have been more practical for an officer to check these out at her residence.
This way a government office is tied up for half a day, along with a specialized officer who seems to do little else.
Most of the weapons are works of art and craftsmanship and do not function. Some require ball, shot and some wooly stuff.
No one in our group has shot much other than duck.
To restore your faith in some Canadians. There are many who have commented on the Registry from the beginning with only one gesture. It mainly involves the middle finger.
What’s the use of a registry when the majority of handguns are lumps at the middle back of most drug wholesalers and retailers belts? I have personally seen this.
The cost for one person registration? Transport to the office. Occupation of three people and one interview room for half a day.
Personnel to do computer data entry. Paper handling down the line. Photography.
Pay off? One in a million chance that one of these antiques could be traced to a crime.
Awww c’mon, wake up, smell the gunpowder, and scrap this stupid and pointless registry. Let the paper shufflers get back to solving crime. 73s TG
So Tony you prove my point the system was never intened to work as inteneded…to reduce crime, take criminal guns off the streets and acheive this “culture of safty” that Screech McLellan goes on about.
What was the cost of your endevor to the tax payer as opposed to the noted remedy of ensuring citizens are not robbed or shot by criminal antique collectors brandishing muzzel loading antiques?….BTW has there ever been a criminal incident involving a muzzel loader that warrants the 2million dollar tab of registering them?
Or is the objective to expand the bureaucratic tyranny neccessary to dissuade civilian arms ownership and slap this silly idea out of our heads we have a right to the means of armed self preservasion?
Robert, the Gun Registry does nothing to enhance the Policing of Society. In fact, it causes a great deal of effort, downtime, money(budgets)and for the most part a complete waste of time for all levels of policing.
It is a complete farce of a Liberal program that does nothing but drain the system. Get real Robert, it is a useless program designed by left winged nuts who have no concept of reality.
