For a while there, I thought petite Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was just flexing his minor muscles for local consumption and the elections in Quebec where his party is currently polling poorly. But with this latest move, I do have to wonder if this globalist agenda wasn’t his aim all along – glomming onto any excuse to move the Syrupeans’ relatively minuscule economy out from under the protective, and what’s been nurturing umbrella of the United States into the arms of the European Borg Collective.
You don’t say: CBC/Radio-Canada becomes a full Member of the European Broadcasting Union

Ottawa’s recent decision to go public on joining the EU (while the EU is falling apart) is almost certainly going to trigger the cancellation clauses in the USMCA – if the US keeps energy imports tariff free (as I expect) this will subject 80 to 90 percent of exports (including service exports) from Ontario and Quebec to punitive tariffs without much affecting us. Well, they voted liberal, so too bad for them.
On the other hand, I’m ordering next year’s summer tires (made in Lawton OK) today – and most people here would, I think, be well advised to get anything that’s U.S. made and on their likely-to-need soon list, right now.
There’s a Goodyear tire plant in Napanee, ON.
Michelin has at least one plant in N.S.
The Goodyear plant just got a juicy $575 Million government grant (Federal and Provincial) to expand….(drum roll) vehicle tires for EV’s and Off road tires exclusively.
Michelin has three plants in Nova Scotia. And, they just got a juicy $300 Millon grant (Federal and Provincial) to expand into…..(drum roll) large rim tires for EV’s exclusively.
It will be interesting to watch their “progress.”
Been there this summer. They’re expanding the plant.
I don’t like subsidies but at least this one is showing where the money went, unlike the frickin battery plants.
How is an EV tire different from an ICE car
Probably charge more…
That’s ebt’s pun
EVs weigh almost twice as much as ICEVs.
EVs weight more than ICE vehicle up 500 kg more for an SUV. So that affects tire design.
And one in Medicine Hat – but the ones I use, eagle exhilarates, are made in the u.s. ( fantastic tires, but fast wearing).
Hey, Murph, you might think I’m nutz for saying this, but check out South Korean tires some time. Reasonably priced, depending on what you choose…long lasting, and they offer a mileage warranty should their lifespan come up short. I think Canada offers Hankook, and Kumho (no I didn’t make that up). I’ve used Hankook in the past and was pleasantly surprised.
I can also vouch for Hankook winter tires. I’m on the shore of Lake America, so I don’t get severe winters, but I was happy with the price and performance.
but fast wearing how is that fantastic?
“but fast wearing how is that fantastic?”
Soft compound tires stick to the road like glue at the expense of faster tire wear (likewise for winter tires). All depends what you want them for and how you drive.
When I was young. Mickey Thompson tires were all the rage…they looked great and did fabulous burnouts. Sadly, that’s about all they did well, as they had terrible traction. BF Goodrich T/A Radials came out and were an immediate hit because they offered great traction.
Indeed.
T/As were the cat’s ass of tires.
Looked great and provided great handling, huge improvement from the other tires at the time.
Help me understand, please. The titular head of Canada is the King of the British Isles, less those pesky Irish. Canada wants to join EU. UK voted to leave EU. So confusing (not really)
Canada will loose it’s one on one negotiating power with the US, future negotiations will be done as part of the EU…..Canada will crash and burn
So much promise….such stupid people
Has anyone figured out, yet, that Canada is being set up as the “dumping ground” for excess immigration in the EU? This is a strategy. Those in power in the EU cannot stop the opposition parties from using the immigration crisis as a calling card on their campaigns. It’s resonating. So, they need to show positive steps to address it (without really addressing it). They need to show a decrease in immigration numbers.
How to do that? Well, you ship them off to your new pal, Canada and make any benefits in other disciplines to Canada contingent on accepting unlimited migrants.
I pray this isn’t the case, but I don’t believe in prayer……
Yes, of course it is.
Jesus, I’d rather get nuked.
Please, just be patient.
You’re not alone, appears as though Australia is being inspired:

That is one of the ‘benefits’ of joining the EU — Diversity is Love!
Think of all the wonderful, vibrant new street food you’ll get.
Ok, I’ll try to stop being mean. Ugh…remember when I said “as long as your country doesn’t do something dumb (you should be ok in the end)”? Well, this is one of those dumb things…not the dumbest, not yet, but not smart.
I’m not even feeling my customary schadenfreude over this. You need to find a way to save yourselves at this point; your government’s going to strangle you (even more).
Hope you have a taste for Turkish Delight (that’s a literary reference; let’s see who gets it).
Think of all the wonderful, vibrant new street food you’ll get.

There’s your new “street food.” 🙂
I think Canadians should get used to this sort of thing.
Seriously, while I harbor an intense desire to torch Ottawa (mostly as payback for releasing that abomination Caillou onto us, but with historic nuances too), I don’t wish von der Satan on anyone.
I see your PM used Ursula’s older, dumpier sister’s “Stronger Together” slogan during the acceptance speech…
“Piddington, the village that roars”
Perhaps before Canada, Australia and New Zealand return to colony status, it would be worth reviewing the Piddington Blueprint. Piddington voters supported their independence referendum with 90% of the vote in favor.
“Piddington, a village of around 350 people, has voted to quit the UK and create a principality, following a symbolic vote of independence held on Battle of Britain Day.”
Burnham took note of little Piddington. A recent article reported that other UK villages have been inspired by Piddington and are following the village into independence referendums. What’s stopping towns in Canada from doing the same?

unknown jane, I will take a stab at the literary reference…
The White Witch gives Peter some special Turkish Delight to his peril in C S Lewis’ Lion Witch and Wardrobe.
Ursula being the white witch and carney a poor stand in for Peter.
And I didn’t look that up. being a Lewis fan and an English Major (long ago).
Indeed. Although I was thinking the people of Canada (and Australia, NZ) are more the stand in for Peter. Carney’s more like Ginarrbrik (sp?), the White Witch’s nasty, evil gnome sidekick.
The midget commies are the worst ones.
The problems with the noblesse oblige WEF model are therefore both philosophical and practical. It undermines democratic and constitutional governance by empowering unaccountable actors with self-serving and ideological agendas and by imbedding bureaucratic structures that are hard to dismantle by normal electoral means. And, instead of market discipline, it relies on technocratic and state judgment to pick winners and losers and imposes a costly regulatory burden that increases risk and drives away capital. The effect is to undermine productivity and weaken economic performance.
Spot on. The new elite are the technocrats, AKA bureaucrats, a new aristocracy. All will be run for their benefit.
simply another form of dictatorship. under the guise of bureaucracy. except NO CENTRAL FIGURE around whom the cult of personality forms. thats strictly old school. the central figure now has a great deal of anonymity.
quick. name the CEOs of the 10 biggest corporations in Canaduh. see what l mean?
I had a conversation with an elbows up type today. He didn’t see anything wrong with negotiating a trade deal. I had to explain joining the EU is joining an new economic zone run by unelected beurocrats in Brussels. Things that should be debated in Parliment, at least. He said these were just preparatory negotiations. Told him the PM doesnt do that BS, he has a staff for this. A PM goes on a high visibility visit in Europe and sucks EU dick (or whatever Ursula has) he’s not putting out feelers, he wants a done deal. That wasn’t on the agenda during the elections.
I have kinda been a supporter of the US policy. Canada has been freeloading for much too long in several areas.

However right now, America is behaving like the date you take to the dance. She bad mouths you the whole time to everyone. When you start talking to another chick who doesn’t treat you that way, She gets all bent out of shape and starts threating you.
yea America, your leader is behaving like a spoiled bitch whose crap doesn’t stink.
If you want to smarten up, we can be gentlemen and continue our relationship. Otherwise we’ll find a girl who wants to respect and dance with us.
The girl who wants to dance with us doesn’t have options so we want to be careful. You don’t want the option of having to remove your arm to get up in the morning.
The girl that wants to dance with us is Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen. Makes Cruella DeVille look like Sidney Sweeney.
L – + + +
Planet D! Is that you?
The ‘chick’ you’re talking to has tertiary syphilis, but by all means, go ahead — knock your socks off!
Won’t have to worry about any teeth I suppose; might want to close your eyes whilst wooing said strumpet though.
PS. we bad mouthed you because you bragged about how you’re getting it for free whilst borrowing our car…and you didn’t even wear a clean shirt.
I already warned him.
Is the plan to make Canada such an economic mess that the only way anyone will invest here is with government guarantees and those sweet sweet bribes and kickbacks?
Current so called ‘Liberal’ dicktator (sic) of this country can and will do whatever he wants.
There is nobody, but nobody in the, heh, dominion, heh, that can stop him.
It’s the constitutional setup and there is not a snowball’s chance in hell that it will be changed.
The thing is that the population most likely than not, does not know a dick, as the saying goes, about the severely convoluted and totally uneven constitution.
It was instituted by a bunch of low life bottom feeders and the population is screwed, not that they care or even know what is in the screed.
There is not one politician in this forsaken place that would have guts to say that we need a new constitution that does not favor one province over another.
The so called opposition is completely and utterly impotent. All they can do is whine and whine and whine, they are powerless.
Dicktatorship (sic) it is.

Apologies. We’re done here. The next thing I hope y’all see is the First Armored.
Read that earlier today.
Bitch needs to be taken out into the middle of the Atlantic & fed to the f’ing sharks. Along w/ the entire appeals court.
Gotta think the 10th Mountain would be first, but I’m not schooled in these things. Pretty sure a boy scout troop could handle the job though.
And that’s why they would send the 10th Mountain.
Hey now, don’t make fun of 10 Monkeys. (honestly, really don’t — unless you’ve served in something higher caliber; no, 4th ID doesn’t make that cut).
Havermeyer: We’re not sending anything unless we absolutely have to. “Ace of Spades” can let go of the ridiculous — and seditious — notion of letting go of some states — who do you think they’d go to??? yeah, way to help Ursula and Fiends out. We keep our country — all of it. That site’s been yammering about that for 2 decades; time to quit.
Build the Moat.
Having a totalitarian prison camp as our hat it definitely going to be entertaining.
skill testing question: is there ANY edjukayshun administrative body ie local board, that includes deep concentrated study of all the ramifications of said constipation er, constitution so that maturing Canaduhians have a vastly fuller grasp of the thing and how it can affect the ruining, er, running of the rytnuc, er country?
no you say? SEE THE PROBLEM HERE??
