A leading figure in the UK Sikh federation has told the BBC the community has been “demonised” after a university student was killed by a Sikh man using a religious knife.

Earlier this week, Vickrum Digwa was found guilty of murdering Henry Nowak after stabbing the Southampton University student with a ceremonial blade Sikhs are required by their faith to carry.

The bodycam footage of stabbing victim Henry Nowak’s arrest has been released.

Henry Nowak’s case is worse than you think – 60 of the 67 minutes which he spent dying in the street were in the custody of police officers. They broke basic rules of policing and PACE, denying him basic first aid and compassion because they falsely believed he was a racist.

    1. I’m one who believes that to solve a problem, you must address the root cause of the problem. Hint: the root problem is not the police. The root problem are “Hate Speech” Laws. aka anti-Free Speech Laws. Brutish Laws that JAIL “wrong-speak” on the internets.

      Nowak SHOULD have been FREE to make any derogatory comments he so chose … with no INSTITUTIONAL repercussions. No “victim” of “hateful” words should EVER feel empowered by The State … by LAW … to react violently and deadly.

      The Jury correctly ruled that Nowak uttered no such “hurtful” words. So you may say my point is moot … but it’s not. The Sikh murderer likely expected the LAW was on his side.

      No Free Speech = No Freedom. Yeah, yeah … and no, you cannot threaten to kill the wife and children of an ICE officer. Terrorist threats are not protected speech. But Nowak SHOULD have been free to quip … “Nice Turban, Abdul” … or … “How about not gang raping our white girls, Singh” .

      I learned everything I needed to know about Free Soeech in Kindergarten … sticks and stones may break my bones (and shivs will make me bleed out), but words will never hurt me.

    Not true, and the BBC knows it. Digwa was already carrying the required 2-inch long ceremonial around his neck as almost all Sikhs do…he personally *chose* to carry a second 8-inch knife as well.

    2. I wonder if it’s considered “ceremonial” when you start stabbing people with it, unless of course stabbing people is the ceremony, and we must tolerate that in the same of diversity and inclusion. I’m thinking of starting my own religion where i carry a ceremonial .44 magnum.

The strangest case ever to appear before the Alberta Human Rights Commission was around 1985 when a Sikh student was given the right to wear his dagger in a St. Albert Protestant Separate School District school. That school board is a rare breed but is without doubt a publicly funded religious school as guaranteed under legislation relating to the Northwest Territories and the Alberta Act which form part of the Constitution. The decision proved once and for all that a Sikh has more rights in a Christian school than a Christian. If the case was judged without anyone’s head up their ass the Protestant Separate School Board should have had the right to ban a heathen, sending them to the St. Albert Roman Catholic Public School instead. As I said, St. Albert a former Alberta French community is truly unique. Apparently Sikhs have more rights than anyone else.

    At the end of the statement, he mentions the 4 female senior officers and liason who were helpful.
    Some of the regular officers have resigned, the “investigation” is continuing.
    I expect there will someday be reprecussions, though justice delayed is justice denied.

    And, I think the police involved with this felt they were doing the “right thing” in this evening, as the Chinese say, “the fish rot from the head”. It doesn’t seem normal to be arresting an individual in distress who’s been stabbed. It’s not like he was in any condition to fight the police, or run away.

      I’d say ‘decolonize’ (think about Sikhs admitting privilege – lol) is pretty accurate what needs to be done. But lets start by telling the policemen they actually took part in a murder. Hearings, anyone?

      He stabbed Nowak, then caused his death when policemen were present by manipulating them. It can’t be more cruel than that.

  12. Starmer is no Obama or he would have invoked the “never let a crisis go to waste” rule and reclaim the narrative. Starmer should have issued a statement like Obama – “Henry Nowak (Treyvon Martin) could be my son.”

    But I’d counter that the Sikh religion does not govern Canada in any way shape or form. If you must carry, return to your India S.O. and carry there to your hearts content. Make your choice.

      I’m old enough to remember back when Zoolander ran Bananaduh that he had a buddy, JackMeat or some such similar name, any ways JackMeat was Dipper Leader and he governed Bananaduh by holding the balance of power in Zoolander’s governments.

      And Behold! during those 10 years immigration was 1.25 million new people per year for 10 years and mostly ALL of those who migrated were Sikhs.

This claim of ‘racism’ that is now being bandied about wily-nily makes me want to consider how Tommy Robinson was jailed claiming that the Syrian ‘refugee’ was more of an aggressor than a victim. With Robinson’s criminal history it would be easy for any prosecutor, court or judge to bias a trial against a selected example to drive the point home to the general public to keep your mouth shut or else we’re coming for you. Look at the number of charges laid in Britain for ‘mean tweets’, look at the number of police visits to warn Brits that they are being watched. As the Bard once stated, “Something wicked this way comes!”, has now arrived in Britain and we will all be the poorer for allowing it entrance.

  17. One might point out that the British Government already modified what the Sikhs were allowed way back during it’s control over India and area.

    One might also point out that there is no requirement that the kirpan be functional, only that the devout sikh wears it, so one that is permanently attached to it’s sheath would meet the requirements, and anyone who can draw it, brandish it or otherwise use it other than as a symbol should go directly to india and not pass go.

  18. Everyone involved needs to go to jail, starting with every Prime Minister who facilitated this. The 2 constables who finished what the Sikh murderer started deserve 20 years each, minimum. The Sikh should have been hung. Oh, yeah, deport the entire family, starting with the mother who hid the knife.

    1. TBH … the Southampton “rioters” are such amateurs.

      They need to learn from the NGO-funded ANTIFA mob at the ICE facility in NJ. Shields, face masks, military grade gas masks, commercial fireworks, and backpacks filled with weapons disguised as everyday objects. Multiple bonfires set. Police … bitten. Police cruisers destroyed.
