Where else do you get to set on women with hugs’n kisses in the workplace, against their will … be convicted of assault … then get paid out 275,000 shiny new loonies by the Sask. government.
The women, on the other hand, got a little over $14,000 each for their troubles.

“A Saskatoon mediator investigated the complaints and, in his report, sided with the women.”
The payout is an admission that both this assesment and the court judgement were BS…or the women were BSing. Why not give the guy his job and pension back and fire the guilty parties?
Bad enough taxpayers are out over a 1/4 million on this but they still are paying the salaries of jackasses who’s ineptitude or dishonesty has cost taxpayers money.
If the axe is out to cull bad employees then swing it in the right direction and take no prisoners…these out of court settlements are to save us the cost of deeper investigation and convictions but does it really save any money when the ineptitude and dishonesty you’re ignoring is left to foul up again?
AND the government is keeping it a secret . . .
WHY ??
Socialism . . just another political pathology.
BTW: leave it to tunnel-visioned Dippers not to see that it is their incideous sexual harassment liabilities which are a tempting playground for petty larceny from human foibles and places the tab for this in the taxpayer’s lap.
I have to agree with WLMR here. If the payout means that the mediator and the women were BSing, then they should be the ones to pay out the 275 grand. If they are telling the truth, then whoever authorized this 275 thousand dollar payout should pay it out of their own pocket. The citizens of Saskatchewan had nothing to do with this and there is no reason that they should be responsible for paying this money.
275,000 For hugging and kissing women???
Hell, id do it for nothing.
No one should be naive enough to believe that the only cost to the taxpayer in this affair is $275,000. The lawyers fees are over and above. Carriere is said to be planning to “top up” his pension so there would naturally be matching from the employer (us). I make the actual amount more in the area of $400,000 plus…..
This just does not pass the smell test. There is a rat in here somewhere and I hope someone can uncover why this settlement was paid. It is clear that John Nielson is under a gag order. Here is hoping that some right-thinking bureaucrat will leak something to someone. One more thing is clear to me – this government has the motorcycle started and reved-up to get out of Dodge the day after the next election. Come on Lorne, call it!!!
Ed….The citizens of Saskatchewan had nothing to do with this and there is no reason that they should be responsible for paying this money.
Oh yes you do…you voted for the socialists(maybe not you,but the majority) so suck it up, buttercup, or change it!!!
$275000, boy they got off cheap!!!!
in ontario, were we have BIG government, it would have been in the millions, our gov’t ain’t used to those small numbers:-))))
How come this perk is never mentioned in the Saskatchewan ads?
If it walks like a duck…
If it quacks like a duck…
Its probably a bureaucrat with a secret to tell.
And a politician who subscribes to the CYA rule.
This must be the ‘inapropriate material’ Lorne Calvert was referring to when he called for filtering content on the new ‘free’ wireless Internet.
Kissing, fondling, and cash changing hands. Heck, the NDP has expanded from liquor and gambling into pimping. Mac Daddy Lorne! It doesn’t explain the nubbish suits though.
I wonder if they use the ! letterhead for this press release?
The payout was to settle a libel claim, not because of the acts in the workplace or his firing. At least do a modicum of research before sounding the alarm bells.
