What KM fails to understand is that many countries erect many, many, other TRADE BARRIERS than tariffs alone.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
KM is fully aware of this. What Kenji fails to understand is that the US is no piker at non-tariff trade barriers itself, which makes Trump’s constant whining over how hard done by the US is rather hard to listen to.
So far as this issue is concerned, Trump seems to be correct. Don’t know what is going on in the mind of Transport Canada. The obstruction has been going on for at least seven years, so it has nothing to do with Liberation Day.
KM: “Don’t know what is going on in the mind of Transport Canada. ” Come on KM that is disingenuous in the extreme. Bombardier is part of the Laurentian Elite, and enjoys even more special status because it is Quebec company. End of story.
I can understand them being sluggish to delay certification to help Bombardier (it’s wrong but I can understand it). But to delay the GVII-G500 full ceritification for full seven years is difficult to understand. They must have known they would get called on it.
There are theories other than Bombardier. The Boeing 737 MAX had two crashes in 2018, and delays might be tied to that somehow. I don’t see it, but maybe.
Carney should cave on this one. He won’t get blamed, Trudeau will. Maybe he can convince Trump to remove aluminium tariffs as part of the deal. Trump might go for it, as alumunium prices are 20% higher in the US than Canada right now, and manufacturers can’t be happy about that.
“KM: “Don’t know what is going on in the mind of Transport Canada. ”
But he does (somehow) know what is going on in the mind of President Donald Trump. Ask him.
How you keep your vacuous insults to yourself.
He didn’t insult you. He simply pointed out that you pretend to know the mind of Donald Trump, as you do. Yes, that makes you look like a complete jackass, but that’s your doing, not his. And so what if it’s vacuous? Cud be worse.
Quite so, there are many ways governments support chosen industries, other than tariffs. The US does too, it’s almost inevitable, as observed by Adam Smith way back when. Mind you, I am getting a bit fed up with World Emperor Trump; and how come he has overlooked Embraer, the Brasilian success.
How many times does Trump have to chip-shot Carnages nads around the playground until our PM gets tired of being embarrassed? Or is Carnage unable to have any situational awareness?
You think Carnage has testes? Doesn’t he sit like Justine?
Will we have to testes hypotheses?
there is absolutely no one to blame for this except the corrupt Canadian bureaucrats and politicians that have either slow crawled the process or made legislation prohibitive to the process.
Thank you for your attention to this matter
Ontario and all points east (or always frozen and dependent) voters.
Marx Carnage’s approval numbers will skyrocket.
You’re not so dumb, Mr. Biker. Carney’s winning the next election as the national unity candidate. I don’t like it but that’s what he’s doing, with the government media supporting him all the way.
If this does happen and Marx Carney wins, he can rule over the ashes of what once was a great nation.
Not that Trump even had to do this. The Bangor plane crash demonstrated that Bombardiers are death traps. Nobody in his right mind should use a Bombardier to transport any one of God’s creations blessed with a soul—much less step on board one himself.
No one outside Canada who doesn’t care to be ruined by lawsuits filed by widows and orphans of deceased passengers will invest in a Bombardier plane if he has any choice.
Its a shame the Maine crash happened to wipe out some top Democrat doners. Truly tragic!
Must have been caused by Orange Man Bad. Or perhaps it was returned karma… no, it must be OMB.
The “ 50% tariff on any and all Canadian aircraft sold into the United States of America “ is gratuitous , and only meant to make the rubble bounce. You’ve got to love it.
Tier 2 Canada slow rolls approvals and legislation when they want to make a point, it’s a means of letting the other side know what Canada really thinks, and a perfect illustration of why Alberta has been grotesquely underrepresented in Canadian Gov’t for the past decades.
When Alberta declares independence from Canada and Canada’s garbage main stream media declares that we only tried to negotiate terms once, let this be a great example of why we didn’t. If Alberta does agree to negotiate it’ll be decades before Alberta is free of Canada’s tyranny while every nuance is debated ad nauseam.
So wait … the Canadian Dairy lobby isn’t the only trade barricade that troubles the US? But KM scolded that was the ONLY Canadian trade barrier to US products. Protectionism against cheap, “unclean” milk and cheese or something …
Perhaps he overlooked them because his head was held too high in proud defiance of the Yankee bully and his nose blocked the view.
But that may not be so, just a conjecture.

Stop calling each other out, stay on topic.
Damn. The topic’s so dull and the calling out is so exciting!
“So wait … the Canadian Dairy lobby isn’t the only trade barricade that troubles the US? But KM scolded that was the ONLY Canadian trade barrier to US products. ”
More than that (rebranding Chinese steel, for just one) and not just Canada doing it. Countries all over the world had been taking advantage of the largess of the USA for decades (since WW2), until Trump put a stop to most of it.
Bwahahaha!
Airbus has a facility in Montreal making the A220. The former Bombardier C Series. Don’t know the full deal but I don’t doubt for a second the feds sweetened the deal to save Bomber and line a lot of pockets on a plane that was going to possibly bankrupt the big time liarberal donor Beaudoin family. Not too many A220s go south (or anywhere for that matter. Fantastic plane just not a huge seller)
Airbus has a facility in Mobile, Alabama. I’m sure they would love to add another production line. ROLL TIDE
But wait! I know! The Greatest Economist Ever could:
1. Stating the truth in Davos. (To a crowd of yapping fellow travellers)
2. Diversifying trade relations as quickly as possible. (With Communist China)
3. Refusing to backtrack and apologize when Trump tries to veto a Canadian trade deal. (Wait for the transcript)
4. Government refusing to respond to Trump’s infantile baiting. (The Beaudoin’s might say something about that. How are all those reciprocal tariffs going?)
5. Offering to send troops to Greenland (now moot as Trump has backed off). Yes, it’s really a shame. They were just ready to break out their rainbow flags and get ready for the big parade.
Maybe add:
6. Send a strongly worded letter
7. Put the US on double secret probation
8. Fart in the wind
All are equally effective
I’m glad to see you read my work.
But Trump sure doesn’t like, so obviously he thinks they’re effective.

Wow, this thread has descended into an anti-KM competition. Mind you, #6 brought a smile to my day.
“There is no business case for exporting Quebec’s Bombardier aircraft….”
A trade deal with China but not necessarily a trade deal with China.
The full quote should be:
A trade deal with China if necessary, but not necessarily a trade deal with China.
FILTHY LIBERALS
betas aren’t ALPHAS. Alphas can Tweet for 10 seconds and destroy the beta Liberal. and 1 of his shitty Industries.
Thank you for your attention to this matter eh
I find this entertaining my grandfather would have been laughing at this lol.
Maybe Trump is just trying to make left leaning folks heads explode , like in Mars Attacks.
🙂
Have you guys seen the new trend in the next generation of private jets (and eventually, commercial airlines)? They are going to get rid of all the passenger windows and replace it with high quality cameras that will project the view in 360 Degrees without obstruction on the inside of the cabin. Think of it as the view you would have from Wonder Woman’s transparent jet. It will be more of an amusement park ride. The benefits are many including a more aerodynamic craft allowing higher altitudes and faster flight speeds. Cabin comfort will be easier and less demanding on resources. And, they’ll be cheaper to build without having to reinforce the cabin at each window.
However, I think they’ll end up needing more puke bags for some people. 😀
Just want to add that I sincerely hope it does not mean ALL canadian made aircraft. The de-certification and subsequent grounding of 100s of CRJ200/700/900/1000s will throw the US Aviation world into chaos. Even Delta and Mesa with their A220s would face all kinds of problems (Mesa shut down)
Perhaps just private jets that won’t affect anyone except the Beaudoin family?
I wonder if the liarberals will burn down canaduh for the sake of one of their largest shareholder families?
They just have to mention something to that effect their minions will torch it for them.
Remember the monkeys from the wizard of Oz ? 🙂
Exactly. How are the Liberals (and their media) going to spin this.
We can’t sell our private jets to rich people anymore. Trump, Trump, Trump!
A Canadian made aircraft that goes tits up with a little ice on the wings. A shameful irony. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/crash-private-jet-bangor-maine-9.7060736
Well… Trump’s briefing on the crash in Maine led to a series of questions and revelations stemming from (prideful) comparisons. This lead to the understanding regarding certifications and Liberal Canadian shittyness.
Given this revelation I suspect further investigations and reprisals for Canada.
In Canada it is illegal to take off with any surface contamination of wings or control surfaces. I believe the US has the same requirement. It takes very little ice or frost to disrupt the smooth airflow that creates lift.
Canada imports a shit load of Boeings. Maybe Trump really doesn’t want an aircraft war. Boeing is pretty sloppy with their manufacturing and maybe we might want a two year review of their procedures after their next crash. Hell, just import Airbuses.
Half the Bombardier fleet and the majority of Airbus Canada are sold in to the U.S. Canada won’t win a trade scuffle there.
And the primary holders are Delta and Jet Blue, the primary owners of which I don’t think my President minds stepping on the toes of.
So, please do get shitty all you want instead of rectifying this dust up, should be fun and perhaps quite profitable for us.
What does Gulfsteam make each year? 30 aircraft? What would they sell in Canada? One of each model per year max? Have they even attempted to meet all the licensing requirements of Canada? If they have, why? Certainly not to sell aircraft.
It’s always easier to be outraged over something that doesn’t affect you that much economically.
So why protect Bombardier if Gulfstream only could sell a handful of planes each year?
Follow the money the corrupt liberals bank on a regular basis.
1. Since Canadians are shooting themselves in their feet the US will do the same; thus sayeth copycat Trump. Has this guy studied economics?
2. We torpedoed the Avro Arrow program due to US pressure. Where is the gratitude? How did the F-104 widowmaker perform? How will the F-35 widowmaker 2.0 perform?
My father has a problem hearing. He has a landline with a special phone but when he travels he struggles to understand incoming calls (especially from his doctor who has a strong accent). In 2024 Apple came out with a smart phone that has an ear piece that is certified as a hearing aid. So we bought him one. Turns out the iphone is not yet certified in Canada so he can’t use the ear piece. For now, he is stuck with his Bell landline.
Why would Canada not certify a product like this that is already available in the USA?

I’m curious as to how much of the 13.6 billion Bombardier gets….
