I, also, wouldn’t discount the involvement of a number of Central and South American governments in assisting Venezuela to get back on their feet. It wasn’t reported widely, but Javier Milei actually flew to Norway to attend Machado’s receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize. That would seem out of place on the surface.
A number of Central and South American countries have recently taken a “right turn” and are in the process of re-building their own economies (Argentina, of course, included). Venezuela is a country with the largest oil reserves on the planet, AND more gold reserves than all of Africa combined. The serious Central and South American leaders are not going to let this opportunity pass unabated. And, the US is not going to overlook this potential benefit (not only to Venezuela) that has regional stabilizing factor inherently built in.
