The BBC reports:
Concentrations of CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere surged to a record high in 2016, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Last year’s increase was 50% higher than the average of the past 10 years.
Record surge in atmospheric CO2 in 2016
If you want to survive Tesla has the answer:
Can Puerto Rico go 100% solar?

I would like to see how they measure/calculate “World concentration of atmospheric CO2”, How do they know how much is from human activity and how much is natural. I am sure that there are ways to calculate this, but they would be based on so many assumptions that the final result is likely wildly wrong. I suspect they are simply making stuff up to keep the grant money flowing.
Whipping up a frenzy just in time for the COPE spend taxpayers money fest.
With the electrical grid down, they pretty much are 100% solar.
We had snow on the weekend, very early in the season, and Calgary has been prematurely cold.
Glowbull Warming hype and BS
Re; covering Puerto Rico in solar panels to achieve 100% solar energy. Kiss MY tourism dollar goodbye. I shan’t be visiting an island “paradise” so despoilt. I suppose, though, my travel dollars will be supplanted by eco-tourists journeying to see their wet dream realized.
BTW … my adult son asked me, just last night, why it is sooooo cold here in the Bay Area in early Nov. We don’t get this cold till Jan./Feb. My furnace is working hard to keep up, and my PG&E eco-power bill is going to EXPLODE this month.
http://nationalpost.com/news/world/un-weather-agency-2017-set-to-be-among-top-3-hottest-years
Right on cue, UN modestly predicts 2018 will be one of the the hottest year of all time, after 2016 and 2017. And they wonder why they are losing credibility.
This whole scare thing about globull warming is just that…but it has gotten to the point that Public Policy is built on that “fact”. The Post Modern Globalist Marxists want to see the destruction of Western Capitalist civilization.
In order to accomplish this, they needed a Power point (enter Gore), to scare the world population that CO2 is going to destroy the planet….when in fact is they> who wish to destroy our civilization and they are working on it as we speak via a policy of ENERGY POVERTY. Well underway in Europe and in North America. Keep in mind that before you have kids, you will want shelter – heat – light right.?
That Cabal of Marxist filth is working on the purposeful destruction of traditional electrical Generation in favour of BS renewables that cost the ratepayer 5-10 times what traditional-affordable energy did and should cost. Look no further than to Ontario where $1000/month bills are/were not uncommon.
The whole premise of this Energy Policy is to stop white Europeans/white North Americans from having children. Accomplished by Extreme Energy Poverty, the destruction of the Nuclear family via LGBTQEIEIO agenda of “normalization” & Gender politics with a good dose of white guilt, assorted Progressive BS thrown in and the introduction of Islamics into our societies.
Ask Gerald Butts how many humans our planet should have and he will tell you 1Billion max. I rest my case.
My favorite Hawaiian Island is the “Garden Island” of Kauai. It is also a PRIME candidate for 100% solar energy … if not ALSO wind power. Perfectly situated relative to the equator and nearly 100% hurricane-free. However, I can guarandamntee you that the hardcore eco-leftist Hawaiian Congressional Rep’s. will NEVER cover their paradise in solar panels and wind towers. This is analogous to Ted Kennedy (and his eco-Rep. relatives) KILLING a wind farm proposal visible from the Kennedy compound. Eco-power is only installed in the UGLY bits of America where the stupid, and politically-disconnected people live. In the hinterlands where Trump voters live.
Kenji;
Love Kauai but spend most of my time in Maui. As I sit in Kehei I can look at 30 wind towers on the West Maui Mountains. I understand they are expanding wind generation up country. The claim is that those 30 towers can supply 20% of Maui power needs when working. I have never gone to the trouble of finding out whether true. I highly doubt it. In any event when I do look most times the blades are not turning. About 7 years ago I talked to a resident who told me he paid 0.38 cents/kwh. Here in BC I pay 0.13 cents, all taxes in.
There are a lot of solar panels on most buildings in Maui. At a minimum they probably supply hot water. Probably worth it.
“why it is sooooo cold here in the Bay Area in early Nov. We don’t get this cold till Jan./Feb”
One year I almost froze my ample ass off in San Francisco the first week of August and I’m one of those cold tolerant Canadians.
Yes, I was in Maui a year ago, and saw the towers in the Island’s “wind-tunnel notch”. Thankfully, they are essentially out of sight (from the coast where the tourists are) … and are built in the nasty, blue-collar, semi-industrial zone of the island. And lest you believe me anti-solar … I certainly “sound” that way, don’t I … I agree 100% with solar water heating. Every home I design gets simple black plastic collectors for pool heating, and in some cases DWH’g as part of a hydronic radiant heating system. I also include JUST enough photovoltaic rooftop panels to offset PG&E’s tiered pricing structure … to get my clients bills out of the top tiers. But ONLY if it can be done without “uglifying” the Building or landscape. The physical reality of 100% Renewable Energy is just UGLY and NASTY (including the massive, tentacled, distribution system … yeah … good luck putting all of THAT underground $$$$$$. We have so many OTHER more elegant ways to deliver cheap, plentiful, energy (natural gas) that do extremely minor harm to the visible environment. If we adopt ANYTHING other than an “all of the above” Energy policy … then we are just being willfully IGNORANT.
Warmest year “on record” eh? How’s your methodology?
Take the mean of all weather stations unevenly distributed (ie a few stations for entire Canadian north – warm bias anyone?).
Plot that, day, month, week, whatever.
Then, take the mean of all those mean temperatures for a year. Adjust them as required to fit the warming narrative.
Voila, another “record” to confirm climate change is real, it’s caused by humans and of course it’s catastrophic.
At some unspecified future time, just long enough for tax grabbing politicians to not be accountable for the results.
March out “experts” to lecture us via useful idiots like Julie Payette, Justin Trudeau and Barack Obama.
Of course, ignore all contrary evidence such as:
– all other datasets contradict the “finding.”
Temperatures rose from 1900-1940 which human activity didn’t cause, but a nearly identical warming later…
… which satellite measurements show has now abated, must be caused by humans. But only certain humans.
The climate is probably cooling right now; anyway it’s not a global event.
Observed temperatures are within error/anomaly of the “measurements.”
Their models mine data for warming, always rounding up, and adjusted to fit their anomalous thinking, not the earth’s.
Oh, now we must change the past climate record to prove warming now.
When the cooling climate can no longer be denied, politicians will take the credit, at 1% “renewables.”
Except of course hydroelectric and nuclear power. Not that kind of renewable, ’cause we can’t stand prosperity.
All hail the climate overlords!
No matter what their prescription will always be bigger government and more taxation and control of the deplorables.
What is the true enemy of statism?
Economies and people getting on with it without government direction with no dragons to slay for us.
So who needs these global village idiots and their limousine liberal lifestyle leeching?
That is their greatest fear, that we will call them on their hobgoblins and fire the bunch of them.
Trump has simply started the process in the US.
Will our lying mediocracy let it happen here? I have my doubts, if the Payette stunt is any ignorance indicator.
The only people who can comfortably live on solar/wind power are the desolate poor who live in a Third World tropical country. Unfortunately, due to the lower education level (illiteracy–perhaps even low IQ)…they won’t understand how to fix the contraption that “makes the magical electricity.”
Perhaps they can “repair” the magic panels by burying them … then exhuming the panels for a little dance in the moonlight ?
Good analysis with maps and charts.
Analysis: Which countries have sent the most delegates to COP23?
Biggest delegations are from Africa, all with their hands out.
Good news: Canada is down to 161
Bad news: Canada’s delegation is 89 males and only 72 females. Someone please tell Shiny Pony that it is 2017.
TimR ….
Good news: Canada is down to 161
Bad news: Canada’s delegation is 89 males and only 72 females. Someone please tell Shiny Pony that it is 2017.
Shiny Pony is paying for extra carbon credits to offset that male-female imbalance >s
If factual, it is also irrelevant. Plants absorb CO2 and give us 02; humans absorb O2 and exhale CO2. We various life forms help each other out.
Researchers say a combination of human activities and the El Niño weather phenomenon drove CO2 to a level not seen in 800,000 years.
Soooo … humans aren’t responsible for all the CO2 … aaaaannndd …this level is nothing new, it happened 800,000 years ago and we all survived.
Well, how about that Miss. Poppins?
That’s outrageous. These people have no sense of proportion. Why does a climate conference require that many delegates from Canada? What is the cost. When I was doing consulting for the government, the bureaucrats would always send ten or twelve people to participate when two could easily have done the job. These are people with too much time and too much money.
The NP had a story a couple of weeks ago:
“Despite humans finally beginning to address their carbon output, a cutting-edge NASA study has found that the world’s El Nino-stricken forests single-handedly sent global emissions into overdrive in 2016.
In lush areas of Africa, South America and Indonesia, dried and rotting forests were responsible for the “largest annual increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration seen in at least 2,000 years,” reads an October statement issued by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.”
If you think of forests and grasslands as the Earth’s lungs then it is not hard to imagine that last year was a giant exhale due to el nino warming. It is also important to know that the Earth has had lots of greening according to a satellite that monitors vegetation growth. So the exhale in 2016 was preceded by an big uptake of CO2 in the 21st century, an inhale. The interesting question is the net balance. Is the global greening bigger than the el nino sparked forest decay?

How? You do realize that it rains a lot in Puerto Rico?
… even the Poley Bears
That’s what bureaucrats do. If they weren’t constantly attending meetings or conferences they wouldn’t be doing anything at all. Can’t have that.
Rain isn’t a problem. That’s when they turn on the floodlights aimed at the panels to generate more power. The greenies have this all figured out.
Bet you 5 bucks the CO2 is from from all the burning Tesla cars hehe
There was
In ancient times, monarchs often had professional flatterers. Their job was to reassure them that they were wise and great and doing a good job.
The Petite Dauphin and his court probably have–and need–their own battalions of bull-slingers for that same purpose. And we, the taxpayers, are footing the bill….
“Researchers say a combination of human activities and the El Niño weather phenomenon drove CO2 to a level not seen in 800,000 years.”
Why 800,000 years? Assuming that is correct for sake of argument, 800,000 is way too long for historical records, but just a blip in terms of geological age. Perhaps it is because around that time, CO2 concentration finally stabilized at a historical (geologically speaking) low level, after a steady fall from the Jurassic period, starting perhaps 180 million years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Best guesses of the highest CO2 concentration then is perhaps 2400 PPM. Of course, all the data is reconstruction with a high degree of possible variance, but again, assume they are correct for sake of argument.
So as usual, they cherry picked the duration. The entire statement should have read:
Researchers say a combination of human activities and the El Niño weather phenomenon drove CO2 to a level not seen in 800,000 years, following its steady decline from its high of 2400 PPM 180 million years ago.
The only argument they advance on why CO2 and “global warming” are bad is it leads to runaway warming. The Earth survived the Jurassic with six times the current CO2 concentration without ruanaway warming, so the argument has no basis in fact. If anything, added CO2 and added warming are conducive to crop production. The Jurassic must have been a lush and verdant period to produce sufficient vegetation to support those huge herbivorous dinosaurs. With the current minimally added CO2, but with the warming at a plateau, the Earth has seen almost annual records of bumper crops. That is a good thing. In fact, almost any drop from the current concentration is dangerous. At 340 ppm, photosynthesis would be only about 60% the current rate, and would lead to mass starvation.
