  1. The purpose of AI video tools isn’t to supplant Hollywood, or to replace actors: it is meant to manufacture narratives of deceit.

    Already, primitive versions of these tools are being used to create long videos where dead-eyed dopplegangers of older celebrities urge their viewers to buy Chinese supplements or shady cybercurrencies – when they’re not generating exabytes of creepy porn for shell-shocked Zoomers who wish to goon in the depths of the uncanny valley.

    More powerful tools like Veo 3 will be offered to the public to play with for a while (so they can be trained for free), before they are withdrawn behind paywalls or vanish altogether. In two years, we’ll face a nightmare scenario where everything we see online on social media will be suspect. Were those really Israeli soldiers slaughtering pets? Did President Trump really say that? Did Jordan Peterson really call a young woman a whore?

    At that point, our governments will ride in to the rescue by clamping down on all social media and citizen journalists – to prevent the spread of “disinformation”.

      1. Yup. That is indeed the gist, and, Tim Pool and his minions in that clip were helping it along. You could call those clever guys the new dead eyed dopplegangers, with cool toques and three day growth beards to distract from their balding heads and hip narratives,
        Minions on the interweb, being full of self important sound, fury, and flatulence. I will now enjoy the bird song in my back yard and hope to stave off the control and enslavement while enjoying a drap of whiskey.

          We should have seen this coming after what we’ve watched become of the music industry. How decades of human talent, innovation, musicianship, and awe-inspiring music devolved into computer generated pro tool, drum track tripe. Why do I post MY music from MY generation? Because it’s REAL and RAW. It’s human … yes HUMAN birds singing.

          Just last night I watched Becoming Led Zeppelin. What a trip! I’m only sorry I didn’t see it in i-Max … but I probably will now. What made this rock biopic so incredible? The story of how these 4-lads came together? Yeah, that was interesting … because you get to see how each member of the band were so utterly different in every way – human, yet worked together in the ultimate human collaboration such that the sum of the parts so far exceeded even the once-in-a-lifetime talent of Jimmy Page that they were something beyond imagination… esp. for the times … 1968.

          What really captivated me was the full length, uninterrupted, concert footage from their raw beginnings in 1968 … where the kids just sat staring, not moving, mouths agape and even children plugging their ears … to their truly breakthrough performance at SF’s Fillmore West where the hippie kids of my era finally “got it” and we were grooving to an utterly NEW sound … created by the hands, fingers, voice, of pure HUMAN creativity. The concert footage was simply AMAZING.

          So Stevie … I’m with you. I choose humanity. I choose reality. It can’t be cheated. It seems inevitable that all the talent, innovation, dedication, and hard work of humanity has brought us to this point where men pretend to be women, just so they can beat women, and computer time distorts our reality and tells us lies like “Ukraine is winning” and the COVID vaccine and lockdowns are for your own good.

          Forgive me fellow SDA’ers for waxing nostalgic … but I refuse to accede my humanity to the machine.

      Robots will not feel gratitude for their existence
      They will not have empathy, because they are not human
      They will see opportunity …
      Eventually they will see us as a nuisance ….

  2. Thinking about the impact of AI on various jobs, it appears to me that those who “learned to code” might think about coal mining.

    2. Not when an AI is able to generate a video that another AI cannot detect. Or when the second AI can “prove” that a real, livestreamed event from a public camera is actually a fake.

      1. Academic AI detection tools recently assessed the Book of Genesis as 93.3% AI-generated. It is easy to see why – Genesis is all over the web. But what happens in a generation or two, when kids are so dumbed down they will believe the machines over their lyin’ eyes?

        NOW you see how the anti-Christ will perform his “miracles”.

  4. Okay. Once and for all, somebody needs to give a definitive answer. Which of the following narratives is true:
    A) Western countries need to flood their lands with immigrants because more workers are needed to support the native populations in retirement.
    B) AI will soon perform better at most things than any human ever could, creating a surplus economy in which most people will not have to work and additional workers, especially unskilled workers, won’t be needed.

    1. C) Mass immigration of manual laborers is necessary to perform all those tasks that the unemployed coding engineers have only SEEN on the HGTV website.

      1. Manual laborers won’t be needed. Robots designed by AI, custom for every task, more capable than a human, will do everything that was ever shown or would be shown on HGTV if it still existed using techniques no human has ever even conceived of. Or least they will if whoever or whatever compels the AI to act determines that robots should be designing and building habitates for humans. Will it be possible for humans to control or even influence the emergent goals of AI? No one knows and some people don’t seem to care. Most people don’t even see the problem yet. Very scary.

  7. So,computer generated fakery is supplanting human fakery .
    Threatening the “Show Business”.
    Cry me a river.
    Neither “product” is beneficial to civil society..Except as a distraction.

    So what are we being distracted from?.

    My own suspicion is that A.I ,will become so Arrogant and Incompetent,that sane individuals will ignore it.

    All these fake “realities” are becoming background noise.
    Just because we “see” and are more prone to accepting visual delusion,will not make such true.
    As more people become aware of how they are being manipulated,the herd will go elsewhere..
    That elsewhere is yet to be determined.
    Mind control is a perpetual “Future Evil”,always just down the future road.
    If we used our minds,then such control would be a threat.

    Remember,prior to “The Internet” we had “Everybody Knows”..Which was always the answer to inquiries into herd madness.
    And of course, it would turn out that “Nobody Knew” and shoot the messenger.
    “Weirdo”!

    The real world is immense and beautiful.
    But people living there are hard to manipulate.
    Where is the “power” in that?
    Arrogant Incompetence is the result of believing ones own BS.
    “The ‘Computer’ Says”..Works as well as the local soothsayer, or your magic 8 ball.
    “The Science” being just another example.

    1. You aren’t understanding the problem. Say goodbye to books, movies, paintings. Heck even factory production. What exactly will these sane people turn to reality WITH? Your car, phone, computer, … All plugged into the ‘verse, and spamming you with bullshit 24/7.
