    1. “Back in 2019, the ASX-listed private hospital and pathology business was subject to a feisty bidding war between Brookfield and the much smaller Australian outfit, BGH Capital.

It is a bidding war Brookfield may now wish it had lost;’

It originally paid close to $5.7 billion but, in a typical private equity play, sold off the company’s property portfolio to a Canadian property trust and the ASX-listed HCW Real Estate Investment Trust — Brookfield has failed to pay them rent for some time.

Having ultimately paid about $1.7 billion for the business, and tipped in another almost $300 million two years ago when serious problems started to emerge, the smartest guys in Toronto look like walking away with little but a diminished reputation.

Mr La Spina said losses would be spread between the private equity owners, the landlords and the lenders.”

      1. Mississauga started to be a “less than special” city under Mayor Hazel McCallion. The City Hall alone looks like something out of “Triumph of the Will” – the Nazi propaganda film by Leni R back in the 1930’s. I had to apply for some building permits there, the City Planning Department and Building Department was staffed by people who could not get employment in the real world, so tried to make your life a living hell.

    1. When I see how the police in this country enforces the law (two-tier policing) wrt the current pro-hamas protestors and compare that with how they “policed” the trucker protest in Ottawa, I feel more enraged than ever at this country, and increases my determination to tear it all down, and start over again… perhaps starting with Alberta independence, and if that doesn’t work out, maybe cheer on Quebec’s bloq and PQ to do something to lead the way.
Whatever… this country in it’s present form cannot be allowed to continue with the status quo.
The first thing we need to do is deport all non-citizens who break our laws with impunity while promoting terrorism. Then, we need to take back control of our immigration.
Finally, let’s get rid of identity politics altogether, and toss it into the dustbin of history with all the other failed ideas, like fascism, communism, socialism, and any other form of authoritarian collectivism.
I don’t recognize this country anymore.

    2. Don’t worry, I am sure the RCMP put that in their notes about the truckers even though there weren’t any.

  2. Experts in Egypt claim a dramatic increase in cancers in women is the result of global warming. Donald Trump.

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-14750663/doctors-warn-cancer-rates-donald-trump-climate-change.html

“The experts from the American University in Cairo note their study was observational and does not prove causation. But they believe global warming could increase exposure to carcinogens, such as those created by wildfire pollution.”

Well that makes the study meaningless…

  3. For all you Profressive Conservatives out there:
The Ontario PCs have released their budget — and as expected, it’s virtually indistinguishable from something the former Liberal government would have tabled.

When asked why the PCs reneged on their promise to return Ontario to balance, Doug Ford summed up his government’s reckless fiscal approach in one sentence:

“We can balance the budget another year.”

Ontario has not had a single balanced budget since the PCs took office in 2018.

That’s six straight years of deficits, with another $14.6 billion shortfall projected for 2025.

The budget will not be balanced until 2027-28, and only in the most optimistic forecast.

    A slower-growth scenario shows a $7.7 billion deficit by 2028.

Ontario’s net debt is expected to reach half a trillion dollars — $501.7 billion — in the next two years.

If fully realized, this record-setting figure would mean the Ontario PCs would be responsible for adding nearly $150 billion in debt since 2018

  4. Has nobody connected the dots on this:

Autopen signatures on a pile of Biden’s pardons and the “news” of Biden’s mental health during the last two years (or more)?

So who authorized the pardons? Does this call into question their validity?

  5. Some very revealing crime numbers explaining why crime in Europe is exploding
Here are the German numbers for 2024:

Out of 100,000 people, German men were suspects in violent offenses in 272 cases. For Syrian women, that number was 336. Afghan women? Even worse, with a rate of 359. Worse yet? Iraqi women, with “an incredible rate” of 394.

To look at the data a different way, that means Syrian women were around 24% more likely to be violent criminals than German men; Afghan women around 32%, and Iraqi women a whopping 45%.

    Here’s another little tidbit:

the number of Syrian men suspected of violent crime? 2,608, or 859% more. Afghan men came in at 2,409, or 786% more, while Iraqi men were 2,479, or 811% more. “However, the crown goes to Moroccan men, who have a rate of 3,388 suspects in the category of violent crime per 100,000.” That means they’re 1,146% more likely than native German men to be accused of a violent crime.

  6. Several Edmonton tow truck companies charged with fraudulent billing
    https://edmontonjournal.com/news/crime/edmonton-tow-truck-companies-fraud

Investigators believe the business owners have no professional relationship with one another.

Over the last three months, police have charged:
Mostafa Khalaf, 28, of AMK Towing
Madlool Traim, 52, of Avenue Towing
Mahmoud El Annan, 42, of Discount Towing Ltd.
Parminder Swatch, 46 and Ravinder Toor, 51, of Edmonton Towing Services
Mehdi El Alouanne, 41, of Infinity Towing and Recovery Services Corp.
Mahmoud Mahdaoui, 42, of My Big Tow Inc.
Hasan Al-Adhban, 49, of Same Boss Towing Ltd.

Ahmed Ait Rais, 38, of Unlimited Towing and Recovery Service Ltd.
    Rojan Sivarajah, 35, of 2652736 Alberta Inc…

Ah, ha! I figured it out! I think all of those names are males, so just ban all males from being tow truck operators and all our problems are solved!

  7. YouTube Nukes Top Canadian Political Account After State-Funded Media Complains

In a Sunday thread on X, Real Talk Politiks explained:

“CBC, Canada’s state-funded media just got YouTube to terminate my channel — not for breaking rules, but for having the wrong political views.

CBC couldn’t compete with the content… so they tried to erase it. This is censorship in Canada.

I didn’t break any rules. No strikes. No deception. Just political commentary. And yet — YouTube terminated the entire channel shortly after CBC reached out with hit-piece questions.”
