The Chinese part is legit. Not certain it’s more malicious than simple greed, but some of the land purchased has been in suspicious locations near military bases. I generally do not trust China.
I do not know about the Bill Gates stuff, but he might just be diversifying. Not much of a fan of his (Linux Forever!) but I don’t think he’s gone full supervillain like Klaus Schwab.
