An Air Canada jet travelling from Montreal to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport Sunday night crashed into a fire truck after landing on a runway, killing the flight’s two pilots and injuring dozens of passengers.
U.S. authorities say all 72 passengers and four crew members present on the flight have been accounted for, and 41 people were taken to two hospitals in Queens after the crash, with nine still in care as of Monday morning, some in serious condition.
Airport officials said the fire truck was responding to a separate incident related to an aborted takeoff of a United Airlines flight.
Four firefighters in critical.
This seems fairly clear case of human error, as the ATC was focused on a flight emergency and sent the truck across the runway in error.
Update: Video of the crash.

DEI – Is It a Contributing Factor?
LaGuardia Airport is owned and operated by New York City Port Authority. Firefighters hired under DEI rules.
According to reports, an Air Canada plane, operated by Jazz Airlines (known for its high diversity quotas), collided with a firetruck on the tarmac.. DEI (The Gateway Pundit)
The Biden era FAA hiring practices revealed January 2025 after helicopter-airplane collision was steeped in DEI.
The plane was going 24 mph when the accident occurred according a report in the Wall Street Journal. I would be interested in the name of the fire truck driver, years of experience and qualifications. Planes like that are not exactly manueverable.
Did the plane crash into the fire truck or vice versa. Was the fire truck traveling?
From the damage it looks head on rather than sheared off from the side.
Will we get the full story?
Sometime in 24 to 48 months for the report.
The producers of MayDay are likely already working on it.
Way down in the story, it says the employees on the fire truck were not seriously injured. But I had to read past all the “thoughts and prayers” tweets of all the politicians to find that information.
I feel sick reading this. My condolences to the families involved. There no words. Was this DEI? This is tragedy beyond words.
Air traffic controller error. He greenlighted the truck to cross the runway, then rescinded but it was too late.
He’s admitted that he made a mistake.
I also read that LaGuardia runways are a total shitshow … too many runways in too small a space … crossing runways … and short runways. Sounds like NYC needs a third airport to distribute the load.
NYC has a 3rd airport – Newark
All 3 airports look like 3rd world airports – well, not even that good,
In Reader Tips, Impfstoff Macht Frei pointed out that despite tower clearance to proceed it is still required of the ground vehicle operator to visually check before proceeding.
Correct. Ultimately the truck driver is responsible for the safety of his vehicle.
Although I have the utmost respect for ATC, they are only human. The only time you follow their instructions without checking is if you cannot check (i.e. no visibility due to fog, for example).
Yes, the controller messed up due to another emergency and was likely stressed. That doesn’t let the truck driver off the hook.
How likely are you to see an airplane descending at over 200 mph from up above you. And in a very busy airport how likely are you to assume it’s landing on another runway?
If you look at the video of the crash the fire truck was in the process of a gradual left turn away from the aircraft which collided with the side / rear of the fire truck. I can’t imagine the plane could have done anything to avoid the truck and it doesn’t look like the fire truck even saw the plane (it’s speed onto the runway was slow but constant). Did the fire truck stop before making its turn? It was going slow compared to the plane. How not to enter a runway …
There are also those (way too many actually) who don’t believe in stopping at a red light before making a right hand turn.
Looking out the window I can see incoming aircraft approaching day or night. Then I assume the pilot will wait for it to land before entering the runway.
Given the current scheduling chaos at American airports I’m not shocked that this happened. Saw a news report this morning about a traveller in Atlanta waiting 4 hours to board in the morning only to be rescheduled for the evening . Massive lineups at security checkpoints so people are constantly missing flights.
Tomorrow, I am flying to LA … driving a moving van from LA to TN … then flying home from TN.
I’ve checked the TSA wait times at both airports I’m flying out of … Oakland and Nashville. The wait times are under 7min. at both airports … and their PRE lines are open, so my wait times will likely be under 5 minutes. Why? Because these airports are using SPP … Private companies conducting TSA tasks. Once again… the fewer government employees, the better.
Yeah, I’ve got a PRE certification … and … an official REAL ID
Nobody is trumpeting that the controller who made the mistake is a white male so it was a female and/or a person of colour and/or a 3rd world newcomer.
Who it was truly does not matter to me, but the habitual, automatic cover-up by the media and our new found ability and willingness to sniff it out is interesting.
Sounded like a male voice? The next question could be how many pleats in his skirt?
Why would anyone go to NYC in the 1st place?
To get to Hazelton PA I almost booked LaGuardia. Because of the potential winter weather delays I went Philadelphia instead.
9944
olde 666 only pasted through NYC once in all the traveling I did in them 80T’s, and that was twice too many times, and it is still a shit show today!
2 DEI hires were at the controls, so maybe traveling at more than 24 MPH, as the damage is too extensive for such a slow contact incident!
“Given the current scheduling chaos at American airports I’m not shocked that this happened.”
I would be, since the ground crews, flight controllers and all over support personnel do not work for the TSA…they are completely separate. But don’t worry, ICE agents will be helping to get things moving again *inside* the terminals (where the TSA people actually work).
“Massive lineups at security checkpoints so people are constantly missing flights.”
If this bothers you, take it up with your Democrat friends who are responsible for the current situation inside the terminals.
The ground crews and controllers don’t work for TSA, but the constant delays and rescheduling of flights makes it harder for them to do their jobs safely.
Here’s a video of the plane hitting the fire truck

That plane was going a lot faster than 24 mph.
I read somewhere it was going at 210 mph but I can’t find that reference again.
It looks like the Air Canada plane was landing at the same time the fire truck was told it was ok to enter the runway.
