  1. Most anything a government does in the IT world is inferior, and can be easily manipulated.
ArriveCan app – how well did that work?
The Phoenix pay program. 9 years and still a mess.
Dominion voting machines, although their weaknesses were most likely on purpose.

      1. The income tax computer is a VAX from the 1980s, networked with IBM big iron from the 1990s. The only reason it isn’t hacked from hell to breakfast is that it’s so old they use dumb terminals. The source code is written in Cuneiform. Possibly on punch cards, although I did hear that the last of those was finally retired.

  2. the source code no less.
sooooooooo not only the trick is to *find* weaknesses in the existing function, but, BUT *add* stuff and sereptitiously load THAT version instead (all the while of course disguising the fact ie same build # etc, all THAT disguised as an inexpicable crash . . . )
l think this follows the Chirese model selling routers all over the world that (heres that word again) sereptitiously send everything BACK to beijing for further hacking and analysis . . . .
and while we’re on the topic, what happens when EVERYTHING involves digital currency? NO SUCH THING AS CASH. (oooooooh lm gonna go gold snarf snarf) meanwhile holding gold is outlawed and word spreads about the bloke doing 5 to 10 for holding bullion? hmmm?
its coming. as sure as tektonics and as ‘stoppable’. aka The End Times the beginning stages we are now in. have fun. break out the popcorn (stale as it is, supplies are limited)

  3. We pretend to exist and they can pay us..
The perfect reason for digital ID.
As many fake identities as you need.
With government expertise in computer security being an international joke,we should embrace the concept.
“I identify as” A government dependent/employee send wampum.

  4. Been retired almost a decade and I’m still getting Phoenix notices – you owe $$$, no the GoC owes you $$$…. FFS make up your mind.

  5. The “Hack” was almost certainly a low tech seduction or bribing of an employee or something equally trite and stupid. Password left scribbled on a paper scrap and copied by a cleaner? Bug revealed to the system operator and not fixed? Admin level employee leaves for the day without logging off?

Human frailty is why all computer systems will eventually be “hacked” and there is no 100% secure technological fix possible so long as we are hairless monkeys with a taste for lots of mischief, theft, money for nothing, intoxication and sex with “unsuitable” partners.
