Juxtapose time.
The U.S. trade deficit narrowed sharply in January as exports surged to a record high and imports fell, a trend that if sustained, could see trade contributing to economic growth in the first quarter.
Canada’s trade deficit widened in January as exports of motor vehicles and parts fell to the lowest level in more than four years. Canadian goods exports decreased by 4.7%, the biggest monthly decline since April 2025, Statistics Canada reported Thursday. That pushed the country’s trade shortfall to $3.65 billion.
Kill shot: Economists surveyed by Bloomberg were expecting Canada’s trade deficit to shrink to $1.1 billion January from $1.3 billion in December.

Too bad we can’t export Liberals and other undesirables!
I’m waiting for Trump to declare the resources in Alberta and Saskatchewan a matter of security.
I’ll let you guess where it goes from there.
If Trump wanted to further widen the regional fractures created by the federal Liberal government then he could do it through CUSMA negotiations. Offer a terrible deal for central Canada products (ex. automotive, dairy/poultry marketing boards) and a good deal for Alberta and Saskatchewan products (ex. energy, mining, agriculture). This pits the 2 regions interests against each other with the federal government caught in between. Since the federal Liberal government always protects the economic interests of central Canada at the expense of the prairies, this will further alienate the 2 prairie provinces during an Alberta independence referendum campaign (assuming the petition is successful).
I’m guessing that premier Ford’s erratic and aggressive behavior over the last year is directly tied to the economic decline in Ontario. Given the January export numbers, will Ford continue or change his approach? Because it doesn’t seem to be working out too well. Then again, the central Canadian political and chattering class appears to not possess the skill set to negotiate in a more constructive manner. This lack of diplomatic ability holds true for both political negotiations within Canada and trade negotiations with the USA.
Well, it’s not really a mystery that, as described, would be the US strategy.
Fuel imports Good (west), manufactured imports bad. (East)
Trump as much stated he wants more American manufacturing, using tariffs as the cudgel to nudge American companies to more diverse production, while discouraging imports from turd world terrorist nations like Canadastan. As well, it’s to promote more exports, like dairy, into the said turd world country.
Looks like the current strategy is working as intended, at least by creating uncertainty and reduced economic activity in Canadastan. And that’s WITH the USMCA deal still in play. Imagine how much worse those numbers would look without any trade deal, or, as generous a deal as that exists.
It also speaks to the lack of any impact of any of Marx Carnages photo ops of word salads and fluffy letters of intent he has allegedly obtained in his holiday travels.
This country is so fecked, in so many ways.
Carney, Smith and Moe seem to be forming a cozy relationship. Not quite as close as the Ford and Carney pizza party and overnight sleepovers with pillow fights and tickles (/s) relationship but still odd. I get the trade needs but Carney will betray Smith and Moe in a New York minute for votes in central and eastern Canada.
The Suburbs of Beijing.
Carney’s clear activity to make Canada a client state of China does nothing to encourage any action by the US that is beneficial to trade.
Not to worry … Canada will soon start selling to a consortium of mediocre mid-table nations. It’ll all even out … right down the middle.
But..
I was told tariffs did not work.
Why the smartest and brightest,at least in their own estimation, told us so.
Every Chicken Dancer Knows..
Knows I tells yah, that the USA economy is cratering because “Orange Man Bad”
And that Canada is expanding its trading, with Good King Carney..
What can it mean,if we are not making any money in these new and exciting Memorandum of Understanding deals with our fellow dictators abroad?
The West declaring Independence is the last faint hope that the Rest of Can Ahh Duh can return to sanity.
Fiscal sanity..an thing unseen in Ottawa for 6 decades.
No federal funding promise is worth a wet spit, when the Western Danegeld stops.
The same idiots insisted that capturing Maduro would result in a protracted military disagreement with Veneuela. Instead, exactly the opposite has resulted.
