  1. I visit Wendy’s about 3X a year, typically for lunch when I’m making the 1,500 mile drive to North Carolina. Obviously, a choice dictated by convenience. Haven’t been in a McDonald’s in 20 years.

Starbucks? I can bang out a Yeti growler full of coffee for about 0.75 at home, and refill it at no charge at whatever hotel I’m patronizing along the way.

  2. Remember Crispy Crème donuts? The darling of Wall Street? Yeah, either do I.

OTOH … In N Out burger has never been more popular … you know, that place that puts Bible verses on its cups. And Chik Fil a is booming like no other … and they’re closed on the Sabbath (Sunday for them). Because their SERVICE is second to none, and the food quality is top notch. And … Jesus. WWJE?

Chipotle – overpriced, easier to make at home than stand in their disorganized cafeteria crawl.
    Starbucks – overpriced burnt coffee
KFC – Way too much grease
MacDonalds – drifted way too far from basic, quality burgers
Jack in the Sack – well the food is trash, but 24hr drive thru munchies run is still in the cards

    1. I think reports of McD’s imminent demise/death are exaggerated, but yes, in an effort to appeal (cave?) to liberals and hostile media, they messed with their menu, and ended up pissing off their loyal fan base. Which was stupid of them in the first place because liberals and a hostile media don’t frequent McDonald’s anyway. I still go there, although nowhere near as often because but the prices have really spiked since Covid. Especially here in New Jersey where the minimum wage is killing them.

  3. Somewhat on topic. So … we were having a little drink party with my best friend’s family and a few of his neighbors. We were playing “competitive” Rock Band and my wife chose a certain Jimmy Buffet song …

    https://youtu.be/vED1TYNxazw?si=p_Vsjlc2QOclBAbw

My High school son couldn’t stop laughing through the entire song. He’d never heard of it, and couldn’t believe anyone would/could write such an idiotic song … about fast food. He was utterly dumbfounded.

    1. That song perfectly embodies the un-serious Buffet vibe, which is something I always enjoyed about his music.

If Neil Young did a cover of Cheeseburger in Paradise he would probably need months of therapy to recover.

      1. Oh, don’t sell ol’ Neil short. I bet he’d do a pretty decent version of Cheeseburger in Paradise, if you gave him enough cocaine. Mind you, I’m not sure where you’d the the trucking capacity for that much cocaine on short notice.

      1. Beautiful! Somewhere in a padded room, Weird Al is applauding wildly, while humming “Eat it! Eat it! Don’t make him have to repeat it!”

  4. Husky House
    Voyager
    Burger Barn
    Humpty’s
    White Spot
    Dairy Freeze
    Your neighborhood joint

    1. That was excellent! Thank you for posting.
Back to Restaurants failing, I was a commercial interior designer specializing in hospitality design in the late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. The company for which I worked and then when I was self-employed, did everything from food courts to casual family dining, to high-end; and hotels, resorts and strip clubs (apparently, the food buffet is just as important as the “girls”). Whenever I attended meetings in which there were more than 2-3 people representing the restaurant chain (one meeting had over 20! people who had to sign off on the design), then I knew that the company was ready to go bust and I better get as much of my design fee up front.
As the video also noted, costs are too high, calories and sodium is too high, people just do not have that type of money anymore. My daughter and son-in-law go out to dinner only once a month, perhaps twice if they are feeling particularly flush. As well, since remote work became a “thing”, they make their own coffee and lunches at home. Much cheaper and better ingredients, good for your health.

  5. And does anyone else get annoyed by the way the overly complex menus vanish just as you’re about to decide what you want and how much it will cost?

    1. The Hughes brothers were TOP of the US men’s Hockey stats with 8 points and 7 points respectively. Jack led the team with 4 goals.

Not to brag, but Jack Hughes skating really caught my eye, esp. in the semifinal game against Slovakia, with 2 goals. I texted my Canadian son in Law Jack Hughes NHL page from the NJ Devils and told him to LOOK OUT for Jack in the gold medal game, he looks to be a great player for such a little guy. And well … son of a bitch … Jack came up the hero. Yes, my Can. SIL was bitter …

      1. Silly SIL, it’s not as if Canada hasn’t won a lot of gold medals (9 so far). Also, there’s always a next time in sports.

        1. Simply put … Canada’s talent is nearly twice that of the US (statistically) … so yeah … when Jack kills the GIANT … it’s news.

          1. Actually, I was surprised when I learned that the US hadn’t won a hockey gold since the Miracle on Ice.

  6. MORE MARTYRS AS MEETING TO PICK NEW SUPREME LEADER BOMBED

    1. The strike came just as the mullahs were counting the votes to appoint the next supreme leader, according to Fox News.

A recount will have to be ordered.

      1. I’m surprised the Democrats haven’t advised them how to vote: i.e. mail in ballots, with rigged counting.

  7. Psst, here is a hint regarding the video. Nowhere do they discuss that little secret called Covid.

    1. Crime you can believe in. Liberals celebrate lawbreaking which is nothing new and the reason Hillary Clinton is not in prison.

    1. Yes … drug use is highly subjective as a disqualifier for gun ownership. OTOH … perhaps our Pharma-centric Medical system needs to back the hell off?

      1. Ditchweed.
Unfortunately marijuana is being legalized across the nation on the basis of boomer’s recollection of the pot they smoked in the 60’s.

  8. Trump Regime about to become worlds largest maritime shipping insurance provider while simultaneously keeping the flow of oil through Hormuz flowing safely

“” This is a ballsy power play by Trump.

Lloyd’s of London was the gold standard for maritime insurance policies until just a day or two ago when they started cancelling policies or jacking them up 3-5X. Others insurers followed. That collapsed commercial shipping traffic through Hormuz, which choked oil shipments out of the Middle East.

Trump doing this means the DFC has the chance to displace Lloyd’s as the big dog in this game, when they have been the lock-in player for many years.

It also frees up all the oil that was getting trapped there, heading off shortages and keeping the energy market alive.

And why not? It’s the American navy that sunk the Iranian ships that were harassing tankers. And the American Navy — at least for now — will keep those tankers safe.

It’s a huge reassurance to allies — both oil producers and oil consumers — that our campaign in Iran isn’t going to sink their economies. And it allows America to be choosy about traffic in the Strait.

It also potentially means billions of dollars in insurance premiums at wartime rates going to America instead of the UK. And those rates are STILL going to be cheaper than what shippers were getting.””
