This week police announced that four individuals, one a young offender, had been arrested and charged. The three who can be named are Mohamad Omar Al-Saleh, 21, from Toronto; Mustafa Abdo, 22, from Toronto; and Yousif Al-Gburi, 20, from Mississauga.

Which liberal program did they come in on?

  2. Josh Dehaas: We don’t need thought police in Ontario.
Durham Region’s anonymous hate reporting tool risks chilling protected speech by tracking non-criminal incidents like offensive jokes.

Durham Region, outside Toronto, is the latest Ontario municipality to create a program for recording “non-criminal hate incidents” (NCHIs) such as (to quote the website) telling offensive jokes, destroying religious texts or sending discriminatory text messages.
The new Community-Based Hate Reporting program includes a form where people are encouraged to report such “hateful” incidents — anonymously if they wish — so that they can be connected with taxpayer-funded security or counselling, so that the region can better track hate incidents, and so that police can be informed. Waterloo Region, Ottawa, Chatham-Kent, Hamilton and Muskoka already have similar reporting tools.

The New Brunswick government may privatize Mount Allison University and eliminate St. Thomas University, for budget reasons. Mount Allison has something of a reputation of being a good fine arts school that attracts many international students, so it can be privatized. St. Thomas is an utter waste of money. I taught at UNB for 32 years, and the joke was that there were two faculties of arts programs within eyesight of each other, neither of which prepare students for a profession. This in Canada’s poorest province.

  4. Angus Reid poll shows some alarming numbers, I didn’t look at the age group polled here or the methodology if by phone or internet.
