The arrest comes weeks after a tranche of U.S. Department of Justice documents, released January 30 under the Epstein Transparency Act, surfaced emails suggesting Mountbatten-Windsor may have shared confidential government reports with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein while serving as a British trade envoy — a role that brought him into sustained contact with some of China’s most senior political and business figures.

King Charles III confirmed the arrest Thursday, saying he had “learned with the deepest concern” the news about his brother and supported a “full, fair and proper process.” In a written statement, the King added: “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.” He indicated he would not be commenting further and said his family would “continue in our duty and service.”

Prime Minister Keir Starmer, speaking on the BBC hours before the arrest was announced, said that “nobody is above the law” and that the principle applied “in this case in the same way it would in any other case.”

Beyond Starmer’s statement on Mountbatten-Windsor, as The Bureau has reported, disclosures in the Epstein files appear to link the former prince and Starmer’s own appointee as US ambassador, Lord Peter Mandelson, to a web of potential self-dealing involving Chinese financial and intelligence-linked entities alongside Western political and banking elites. That connection means the investigation into Mountbatten-Windsor carries significant consequences for Starmer and his Labour government — not merely as a constitutional crisis over the monarchy, but as a potential reckoning over what those closest to the prime minister knew, and whether they were involved, or even influenced on decisions related to Beijing.

The arrest is unprecedented in the modern era — the first time a senior member of the royal family, or a former senior member, has been apprehended over potential criminal activity in Britain. Prince William and his wife have said they were “deeply concerned” by the latest Epstein revelations.

      not a royalist, l deeply resent all the freebies, but, if youre gonna haver a monarch she was ok.

      1. Doubt Her Majesty ever knew that much about Andrew’s escapades. She’d always given him some leeway, given he was the first child born without the shadow of her father’s illnesses and when she was comfortable in her role as Queen. King Charles (Prince of Wales as he then was) and Prince William always had concerns about Andrew’s association with Epstein, but neither could have foreseen the most recent revelations. The most Her Majesty would have been told was that her son had been friends with Epstein; nothing would have been said about his possibly passing on state secrets.

  6. I suppose it is easier to bring down the Epstein International Crime Syndicate by charging them with white collar crimes first. Then get them to rat each other out on the human trafficking, child abuse and murder charges. I hope they prosecute every one of Epstein’s partners and associates to the full extent of law. I still think a tribunal investigating crimes against humanity should be on the table. It looks like the world’s “elites” were involved in many criminal enterprises besides human trafficking – political, financial, science, espionage and others.

I’ve seen that photo 9,744 times in the media thus far … and the “girl” doesn’t even have a black box over her head … like all those “Epstein girls” Trump is pictured with. So surely the sex charges are coming any day now … as all those other Epstein “Listees” begin singing like birds. Puhleeze!?

      If cases of child rape are THIS difficult to charge … when the whole world is watching, and waiting, and itching to see rich powerful people go down (sorry) … then what hope do we have that Paki sex grooming businesses will ever have their tax returns scrutinized? Sorry, someone told me that tax crimes go before sex crimes. Some odd sort of policing and prosecutorial rules I’m unfamiliar with.

      1. While I agree that this is likely so much theater (and sweeping) — the real issue is the financial deals the former prince made and the information he passed along. The sort of thing that could get a commoner the charge of ‘treason’.
        The media and several social media influencers want people to focus on the sex but it’s the financial topics that are the real story (and the reason why they don’t want people to focus on that).

        Basically, Andy was pulling a Joe/Hunter Biden game as trade envoy.

  13. I’m not a fan of the royals in any country, but will say it’s fortunate that QE2 didn’t have to see this, as aware as she may have been of his crimes.
    From within the UK it may be disheartning to see a royal or ex-royal involved in this, the BBC this AM “above the fold” is all about this arrest, unlike anything the Britons have ever seen.
    Perhaps at some future point the next gov’t of the day in the UK will see fit to have an enquiry into the widespread wrongdoings of the Rotherham troubles, both those involved in this, and the police which looked the other way. By then it’ll have been a few decades, and justice delayed is justice denied.

I think it would be important to note at this time that many of the people who associated with Epstein were also involved in the enabling of those rape gangs (and the oppression of the British farmers, and calling for British sons and daughters to prepare for war which the British people are being tasked with sacrificing in order to pay for…the same people who made it so you get thrown in jail for an off color tweet).

    I’m kind of hoping they try to brush this under the rug (yet again), and it backfires on them.
