Is the federal NDP a political party or a suicide pact?
… the all-anglophone field stumbled through November’s French debate in Montreal. Interim leader Don Davies even jokingly called the Franglais-filled evening a morale booster for the Bloc Québécois.
Activist and filmmaker Avi Lewis comes into the debate as the clear frontrunner…. He’s also driven much of the conversation with progressive proposals like a public option for groceries, national wealth tax for the top one per cent of Canadians and a so-called Green New Deal to transition fossil-fuel workers to sustainable industries.

How many votes would the NDP actually get without the mindless union drones (who regularly vote against their own self interest)? Its really the party of aging leftist feminists.
Jeezus H. How hard could it have been to find a French-speaking socialist in Quebec? The CEGEPs are full of them.
They’ve all moved to the Liberals?
I’ll look at this in a glass half full metaphor
When Leisure Suit was leading the liberal party they ate the NDP’s lunch.
Currently the liberals are lead by their interpretation of what a conservative is, hence the hard core communist left are stuck with only one option (ok two if you include the Elizabeth May party) to vote for.
In electoral calculations Lewis sells well among the champagne socialists in Montreal Toronto and Vancouver. And if they think Carney could get a majority if he can finesse that snap election (TM) they will give their support to the NDP no matter what Lewis proposed during an election.
Then there are some of those old socialists that fondly remember Stephen Lewis and would move over to the NDP and away from the liberals (whom they see as too right wing under Carney).
As an aside, Carney isn’t conservative or right wing, but if questioned the left thinks he is.
So if they nominate a hard core communist the benefit is they siphon off a good portion of the support the liberals kept on the plantation over the last decade
L – Is he trying to be a Canadian version of Mandami ? Mandami poisoning the “Big Apple”, as the once thriving, New York City was nicknamed. Late to poisoning the “crabapple” of Canada, as the Liberals have almost perfected it. The current NDP is a fringe party of the envious, a runt of it’s former self, struggles to attach itself to the hind teat for a little soy milk.
* An agricultural metaphor common from the widespread raising of hogs on the mixed farms, that served as the basic economy of the prairies.
Looks like a Looney Tunes lineup.
The NDP haven’t actually gotten any more radical than when David Lewis was their Fuhrer, perhaps even less so. Jagmeet destroyed whatever self respect they held for themselves when he consigned them to be the Spawn’s protectorate while the LPC/CCP subsumed much of their Marxism/Fascism and green theocracy in a much more strategic sense as they have the Laurentian elite, the media, the Jihadis, the Turtle people, the climate hysterics, and the CCP on side. Due to the resulting de-industrialization, actual blue collar labour have only the “me too” Conservatives to represent them. The NDP now stands as an historical monument to the bad marriage between the British confrontational labour model and socialism now represented by a leviathan public sector whose wages and benefits exceed that of the private sector taxpayers that pay them and now mostly prefer the LPC/CCP federally.
You don’t get much more working class than truck drivers.
Who created the Teamsters Union? Truck drivers, that’s who.
Who stood up for the truck drivers when the Liberals declared the Emergencies Act?
Not the NDP, that’s for sure.
Can you say irrelevant? I knew you could.
