The Libranos: Toronto Crew

Family, taking care of family.

A sweetheart deal with the Kielburger clan to rent a building for a women’s shelter has seen millions spent but no shelter being opened yet in Cabbagetown.

The building at 233 Carlton St., the first headquarters for Free the Children and WE Charity, has been under city control since Jan. 1, 2020. Despite spending $11 million on renovations — with millions more to go — and $2.2 million in rent to the Kielburgers, the shelter still isn’t open and isn’t expected to be open until the end of this year.

  1. Yeah I know, shocked ………

“What do you mean there is gambling going on in this establishment?” (While stuffing winnings in coat pockets)

  2. As was once said. We’re here from the government we’re here to help.
    Just who are they helping???

  3. Might I suggest these women be “rescued” in a nice American estate.

Even with the unfavorable exchange rate … you’re gonna get a LOT MORE for your money in the nicest communities (and NYC) in America.

People’s eyes tend to glaze over when reading $11M … but when you actually SEE what that kind of scratch can buy … rent/mortgage free! It starts looking like a disgusting waste of $$.

  4. What I can’t get my mind around is how adults just can’t sniff the scent of puke that emanates from the likes of the keelburgers, turdo la do, blubber douggie, etc.

  5. Whoever signed that “deal” needs to be investigated. When client signed an agreement to rent a commercial space, the landlord agreed to provide a “vanilla bay” (as in cleaned up to bare walls and floor), and rent did not commence until leasehold improvements completed and client moved in. Had an issue with the bank who did not honour the terms of not repaying loan principal until improvements completed, but dealt with that. Client move about six months after signing lease for new premises.
Understand this is more complex, but rather sounds as if the Kielburgers are benefitting hugely because there was no cap on lease payments while renos happened. And renos haven’t been happening at a reasonable pace; do wonder why.
