Elbows Up!

    1. We have roving gangs of MAGA people looking for Canadians to rough up. If you come down here make sure you don’t say “Eh” or “A-boot”.

      1. Dedicated ICE teams looking to capture and detain loose snowbirds—especially the Quebecois—because they squeal harder.

        1. The Cubans call French Canadian tourists “Tabernacos”!

( Naco is a pejorative word often used in Spanish that may be translated into English as “low-class”, “uncultured”, “vulgar” or “uncivilized”. )

Also, I can remember CAD being on par in Vegas and Reno, many times in the past, to encourage tourism, of course.. The rest is just convenient whining to look superior to the Americans, but knowing we are really not, like using Trump as an excuse for their broke asses not to go…

      2. I never knew that I was supposed to say those. I still don’t. But from time-to-time I accidentally pronounce “Z” correctly.

  1. Can confirm. TDS infected public service retirees in this neck of the woods are mysteriously gone.
It’s like the Rapture swept through this place.
Although I can’t say it’s necessarily economic – Winter has always been a difficult season for the Buttercups and the need to go somewhere warm is their default setting regardless of the circumstances.
There’ll be the litany of scripted excuses …”check on the house in AZ.”….”friends invited us”… “My son/daughter works there”…”Grandchildren”…”Doctor says warm weather is good for my carpal tunnel” and other stupid shit.
I’ve been told it’s unusually cooler this year.
    What a shame.

    1. “I’ve been told it’s unusually cooler this year.”

Yeah, “cooler” to an AZ resident is under 70F. You can still go swimming when it’s “freezing cold” out.

Or we can, anyway. Locals are wearing a parka and shivering while I’m by the pool soaking up the rays.

I used to live down there, after a couple years I was wearing the parka too. Acclimation, y’know. ~”D

  2. I’ve frequently shared with you all various conversations I’ve had with assorted Canadians across the country. I’ve kept things anonymous but every such conversation has been accurately reported by yours truly.

This post about a huge interest in Canadian travelers to Vegas, with the discount applied, make me wonder if the various America & American haters I know would temporarily forget all of their hateful convictions if they can get a sub-par hotel room and buffet at a discount. I suspect so.

    1. Of course they would. What do you think?

They knew that Cuba was a communist hellhole. They didn’t care as long as the rum was cheap and so were the girls lining up to have sex with them at every bar.

      1. Absolutely. Don’t forget the shameless advice they always offer up to others – “Be sure to take paper, thumb drives, pens and pencils along with to give to José your waiter”
The theory being he’ll put an extra bounce in his step just for you when he fetches your drink.

      2. The thriving sex trade both on and off resort was a surprise in Cuba. Varadero had lots of entertainment.

        Viva la revolución!

    2. But, but, but … Robert!? I’m curious what the exchange rate is between the CAD and the Cuban Peso? Vive’ Cuba Holiday!

      Cuban peso = 0.04 USD
      Cuban peso = 0.06 CAD

It’s just as cheap for a Canadian to vacation in Cuba as it is for an American! Vive’ Canada! Muchachos

  3. Most Canadians being considerably poorer after a decade with a Liberal government is certainly a big part of the reason why trips to the US are down. There is also some truth to the idea that the trade issues have affected travel to the US. I was at a senior relative’s birthday party last summer and the retired seniors were taking about not travelling to the US.

The tourist problem for Vegas has another factor though, the high prices and poor service are a big factor. I hadn’t been the Vegas in over decade abd we decided to stop there for a few days as part of a larger trip. The free airport shuttles are gone. The check in was a painful ordeal because, despite our prepaid reservation, there were no rooms available – it took 3 hours to finally get a room at 4am. The room was, at best, okay but needed a bit of repair. The resort and damage fees charged were higher than most other vacation destinations. Unlike a decade ago, there was no coffee machine and no microwave. Food and beverages purchased at the hotel was outrageously priced, worse than an airport or Disneyworld. No complimentary drinks while gambling. I could go on but the bottom line is that Vegas has fundamentally changed and not for the better. I doubt we’d go back, even if the Canadian dollar was at par.

    1. We did enjoy our visit to Texas and Oklahoma though. Very friendly people. Good service, fair prices. Great trip considering the circumstance that required the trip….except for the tornado sirens going off a few times.

    2. We have only been there once – on road trip from Utah to SF maybe 5 years ago? The sex attitude in the town did not sit well with me at all! Of course, we stayed at the Trump hotel which was very comfortable and, we thought, good value.
The restaurant food and service we enjoyed and the barman remembered us and our orders each night.

  4. Just a thought

Would a government purposely inflating their currency be a legit complaint by the US?

  5. I know someone who stayed at that hotel. It’s $500 in slot credits at par. No break on the room.

  6. A Canadian Trotskyite would sell granny’s kidney to buy gas if milk and eggs were half price at Meijer.
Then piss and moan about antibiotics in the Great Satan’s meat products the very next morning.
    I’ve seen it.

  7. In the summer some in-laws of mine said they werent going to travel to the US because of DJT.
So I said, “You’re going to punish yourselves. Makes sense.”
I smiled as they blink blinked.
They’re in Florida now for a three month stay.

  8. Why do you think the Tabarnacos loved going to Cuba? Everything was cheap down there—rum, cigars, underage hookers. A Tabarnaco was basically above the law in Cuba for as long as his supply of US 20 dollar bills held out.

Not so much in the States since President Trump came back.

Florida is expensive, it’s full of “maudits Juifs,” and Trump is deporting all the cute Latin boys who aren’t cops and are willing to take it bareback from a flabby fifty-year-old Tabarnaco tapette for what a Tabarnaco can afford to pay on a Quebec government salary. Non merci!

    1. Wrong.

Canadians are just as hypocritical as people in America, Western Europe and just about everywhere else.

      1. Well it’s up to “govt.exe is corrupt” to prove his claim over other reasonable ones. If he can’t, we have to settle on “We don’t know.”

        1. Reason?
I don’t think many Canadians have been paying attention for awhile.
They talk a big game but don’t show up after school.
And they like to run away from certain realties.

          1. Yeah, yeah, yeah, everything Canada and Canadians do is wrong. That claim gets a little tired after a while.

          2. Well not everything Canadians do is wrong….but they sure live in a world of make believe. Coddled infants hiding behind government. Never used to be that way, but changed under Comrade Pierre Trudeau.

  9. Does the Canadian government have my back? Not effin likely so why would I change my travel habits to support their corrupt backs.

      1. I blame the NV SEIU !!! hahahahaha ha ha ha … pricing themselves right out of their jobs. Bring in the illegals! Mas mucho ilegals to do the jobs the SEIU just won’t do.

    1. Strange as it may sound, they have to tell the Canadian about the resort fee at the time of booking, they don’t have to tell the American.

  10. The US dollar is 40% higher than the CAD, but American food is 40% cheaper in a restaurant. Last year I booked 4 hotel rooms (with a pool) for $64/night each (no resort fees). Vehicle rentals are expensive, however.

  11. My wife and I are planning a trip to the great state of Texas after finally getting my passport renewed. I am old enough to remember traveling in the US without a passport. We will be headed to the gulf of America. Remember the good old days? Been to both Pheonix and Arizona and had a good trip to both of those. This will be a costly trip so yes the primary reason for less US travel from canada is economic. I am sure that the Americans are counting their blessings having fewer canuckistan public disservants and queerbecers around.

  12. When I was in Vegas three years ago a tasteless breakfast at the deli for two was $40 US. Beer at the hotel shop was $9. Vegas used to have cheap food but no more.

  13. USA bound in a few hours for a family day weekend of country music and boozing with the missus. Need to restock my Woodford and I got my eye on a bottle of Jefferson’s Ocean Aged…because Doug Ford is a putz.

    1. Woodford Reserve Double Barrel is one of my favorites. 1 bottle left in my bar, not opening it anytime soon I guess, because Doug Ford is a putz.

Note: Collingwood Double Barreled is the most decent replacement I’ve found so far.

  14. Why is a Las Vegas resort subsidizing Canadian tourists?

This is just depriving Americans of rooms etc at the resort.

The American economy is BOOMING, so there’s absolutely no need to import tourists.

  15. I haven’t deliberately vacationed in the USA since 2014. I’ve gone there a couple times since to pick up some used car parts for my project vehicle though. and have found travel and accommodation there is just too expensive these days, even in smaller cities and towns.

My destination of choice to escape Saskatchewan winters is Australia. Prices are reasonable, and the exchange rate is in Canada’s favour. It’s varied from 6-10% on the 6 times I’ve made the trip..

    (Sent from Sydney)

    1. America doesn’t miss you but glad you like Woke, Islam infested Australia that is committing cultural and economic suicide. Please stay there.

  16. I just drove through Las Vegas last month on Interstate 15 end to end from San Diego to Calgary. Vegas is an overpriced shit hole, I’ve seen it and done it and there is so much more of America to explore. I didn’t bother stopping and sailed through. Traffic was as light as I’ve ever seen on that stretch of Interstate

Most people I know love going to the States, but they REALLY can’t afford it at the moment.

  17. my impression was the cheap accomodations and cheap plentiful all-you-can-eat food was a magnet to get the tourists into the casino and wring them dry aka a cost of doing business. what happened? doesnt work anymore? mobsters suddenly got a conscience?

    1. They haven’t needed it for about a decade so most incentives disappeared. I think Vegas is in the midst of a major price correction right now and will come out of it all right. They simply have to respond to new market dynamics. Factors I rarely hear mentioned are that casino gambling is now legal in many US states, online sports gambling is legal in many states, and marijuana is legal in many states. People no longer have to travel to Nevada to get stupid and lose money.
