  4. Make no mistake, the Marxist supermajority CA govt. is coming for my wealth. They’ll tax me based on what they calculate as my “worth” … right down to my rinky-dink stamp collection.

    The Marxists have been dying to overturn Prop. 13 … which is the only thing that allows old folks like me … modest-income pensioners who have owned their home since the 1980’s … to STAY in our homes. They want to quadruple my property taxes from $12k/yr. to $50k/yr. But destroying the elderly like that is still (surprisingly) unpopular in this State.

    So imposing a wealth tax on folks who are modest millionaires (on paper) … now that the billionaires have all fled … is their work-around.

    Meanwhile … our roads are decaying shit … with so many huge potholes they are literally unsafe to drive. Our utility costs are higher than ever. The Benicia refinery just shut down taking 400 high paying jobs and $11M out of the city of Benicia budget. Some have predicted $8.00+/gal. gasoline in CA by the end of this year. The State still burns to the ground.

    Yes, I need to step up my EXIT strategy. Once we get rid of Jerry Powell … the EXIT sign will be flashing RED. Now … where do I go? BTW … my daughter and grandsons are fleeing the State in April … I don’t want to say where … but the wife wants to get closer to them soon.

    1. Kenji, having fled SF myself in early 2021, because everything had fallen apart, and been blessed to be able to regularly travel around the country regularly, I can tell you that there’s a big world out there and California isn’t the only place where one can comfortably call home.

      1. I have a very wealthy Grand Uncle … Stanford Business grad in the 1950’s … who lived in Brentwood, LA for the early years of his career. He eventually moved to Connecticut (where he berthed his sailboat at a separate beach house). He later bought a Golf Course townhouse condo in Jackson Hole, WY … and he shuttled between the two by seasons.

        I visited him in the 2000’s in Jackson Hole and he was shocked that I still lived in CA. He flat out said the State was entirely overrated … and if you have the means … to get the HELL OUT of the State. He said exactly what you preach … that this is a great big country … with far better places to live. Other than I see myself as a Westerner … I agree. It’s time for me to go exploring.

          the satisfaction l get from seeing and reporting the death toll does provides some solace to a lifetime of being bullied. ‘get over it’ will happen 15 nanoseconds after the apology but so far they merely provide decisive proof they deserve all the grief, criticism and loss they get.

  6. The perfect storm is developing in California. Keep your eyes on Steve Hilton (Repub. running for Governor). When the Minnesota fraud story broke, he immediately set up a tip line to start documenting similar fraud in California. Without even being in office, he claims to have substantial evidence documenting over $250 Billion in fraud. The timing allows a bona fide investigation in step with his campaign. Voting occurs in May of this year. Add to that the exodus of major tax payers, and $7.00 for a gallon of gas in LA (while the rest of the country is under $3), and he has a real chance. He’s not doing do poorly in the polls.

      But given the level of decay….can anybody turn this around in 4 years?
      What happens in Canada is…..lefties (NDP, Libs) spend like crazy and mismanage. Then Conservatives get in and try to right the ship.
      Some austerity kicks in, and the media and LIV’s go berserk, blaming the Conservatives.
      Pretty soon, we are back to an NDP or Lib gov’t.

    1. No, it just makes sense to a lot of people. Kevin O’Leary left Boston after the state levied a 4% income tax surcharge. But he still keeps a house in Mass., and of course, his lake house in Muskoka.

  9. I’m stuck between shaudenfraude and “receiving what you voted for without lube”. For billionaires that promote a system I’m leaning towards a consequences tax of “if a vocal public supporter of the system, must abide by its rules including assets present at the time of the stated support for a period of one mandatory election cycle.”
