Here’s a blast from the past: Woke Gillette Lost Billions Trying to “Fix” Men

Bonus: Years ago, the 12 year old daughter of some friends mine proclaimed that everyone should be able to do anything they wanted when they grew up, including nothing at all … and be paid regardless of their choices. The parents nodded along, as if this were some brilliant insight brought down from the heavens. I had “WTF?!?” running through my head. Fast forward to 2026 and we now have this.

    1. I was not aware of the French Canadian pedophiles, but I’m very much aware of the despicable Québecois longterm visitors to Hollywood, Florida. These folks make American Rednecks look like scholars at Harvard. They apparently arrive early every new year and then make a complete nuisances of themselves for 6 months less a day. Local residents say that these French-Canadian visitors have zero respect for anyone in their immediate vicinity and have long since dispelled the notion that all Canadians are “nice”.

      1. The FCs used to visit the gritty summer beach town of Wildwood, New Jersey by the thousands back in the day (the numbers have diminished of late). The men (especially the fat ones) all wore tiny black speedos and, well, just completely ruined the whole beach vibe for all the normies. It was so bad at one point that the town considered banning speedos on the beach entirely. The motel owners’ contingent of the Chamber of Commerce put an end to that idea.

      2. They’re probably mostly retired government workers with very good pensions, when you think about how they spent their working years it’s understandable that they would be ignorant degenerates.

      3. Cubans are looking forward to the return of Americans to the island. American “rednecks” are actually hard-working, serious, well-mannered articulate people for the most part.

        The Cubans call the French Canadians “Tabarnacos,” because all they say is “tabarnak.” The Tabarnacos really are trash, as you’ve observed. They go to Cuba to saturate themselves with rum and trade STDs with Cuban prostitutes.

        Only the Cuban communists could love the Tabarnacos, who’ve helped prolong the life of the regime by at least 35 years Ordinary Cubans hate their guts. The sudden departure of the Tabarnacos is a sign that the régime might finally have run out of other people’s money and out of time. If they never return it’ll be too soon.

  3. Since 1976 … I was a faithful Gillette consumer. In 1976, they came out with the fully disposable “Good News” Razor. No handles and separate blades … but fully disposable. It was cheap, convenient, and did a good job.

    Ironically, I was interviewed by a polling company hired by Gillette at our local mall (remember those?). I was a young semi-radical college student. I agreed to take their in-person, interview-style, long form poll … and was taken to a room and shown the video above. They proceeded to interview me about what I thought of the advertisement and the razor.

    I was generally supportive of everything … except … my summary comment was that I thought TOO MUCH plastic was being created and casually disposed in the landfill. I suggested that ADDING to the landfill by disposing of entire razors was ecologically damaging. The young man polling me was THRILLED that he got such a pointed, negative review.

    Nevertheless, I became a faithful customer for the Gillette Good News razor … from 1976 right up until The Dollar Shave Club started business. The Gillette razor had become ridiculously expensive, and the DSC disposed of ONLY the blade head. I was living lighter on the planet. I never went back to a single Gillette product. I was DONE with them for good.

    Gillette DISPOSED of ME … a loyal 40+ year customer … because they suddenly started demonizing men. Bad business move. Bad for the ecology of their business. They should have listened to me in 1976.

    And yeah … the communist woman who doesn’t want to work? Yes dear … this old white man thinks you’re a lazy, entitled twit. And PS … if you actually believe Communism or Socialism will allow you to be a lay about … you’ve got another thing coming. And how. You will desperately BEG for the old days when you were FREE to quit your job and get welfare to help you along. You will have no such luxury with the ‘isms you yearn for to replace capitalism. Sadly, your teachers have lied to your dumb ass.

    1. Gillette and Schick dominate the razor market, although small independents may prop up in the market. Gillette is a Proctor & Gamble company, and P&G is a VERY woke conglomerate. So I try boycotting as many P&G products as possible. (One of the many shortcomings of the conservative movement is a lack of effective boycott organization to continually warn people).

      Since Gillette and Schick dominate the razor market, razor prices have always been high. So I buy a 10-pack of Schick plastic disposable razors, and use only one razor every two weeks. I’m retired and have a low six-figure income, but a dollar saved is a dollar earned. But my wife complains once and a while.

      1. Old and more or less retired. For the last 10 years I’ve given up shaving. I run over my face with a small $20 – $30 Amazon cordless clipper every day. Blond hair so I don’t look homeless.

        1. I’m actually on the 5-day shave cycle. Hey! It’s hip and kewl to have a two-days growth … right? Yeah, by day 5 I’m well on my way to a full Santa beard … not a good look.

      2. I bought a carton of 100 safety razor blades from Russia off Amazon 10 years ago, still have 25 left.
        The razor is the one my dad used.
        Wanted to get away from P&G.
        On the box, P&G Russia.
        Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.

Just because they think they will be on top of the pile in the new communist society, being able to produce their “art”, they never seem to understand that the needs of the state override any desires the individual has.       l grew up in 50s 60s. 6 siblings not one of us got an ‘allowance’. fast fwd cpl decades, oh look, a lawyer, 2 post secondary teachers, 2 business owners, 6 of the 7 self employed at some point.
      and pa? a curious thing. dropped out in grade 4, taught himself to read, kept ye olde roof over our head and food on the table, seriously ‘old school’ ‘street smarts’ and knew spot prices of scrap metal. gargage full of buckets of brass, copper, aluminum. l once watched him set fire to a pile of wire and go back the next week and fetched the now insulation free metal. his connection he worked for a big local scrap metal dealer. (who attended his funeral, much respect)
      in those days drinkers would heave the empties out the window, soda pop and beer. he took me out a cpl times walking thru the ditch fetching them.

    5. The communist ‘woman’ of the story was a 12 year old, and as such should be granted some grace. Children are rather naive (although I will also mark that this is what happens when we deny our offspring worldly knowledge by not having them work summer jobs at an early age; by the time they were 10 mine were fully fledged hustlers making sure they had multiple avenues of wealth production). What shouldn’t be granted is an audience to the naive ramblings of a 12 year old…that’s how we end up with the rantings of idiot adults…

    6. This has been effectively memory holed as I cannot find it. But I remember hearing it clearly on the radio news back in the mid to late 1979s.

      Pierre Trudeau was talking about people who didn’t want to work. He said they should not have to work in order to make ends meet.

    Just listen to the fuzz bass, and totally psychedelic lead guitar solos of these tunes. These relatively unknown bands (alright not from the Bay Area) were total Trail Blazers for an entire new CA psychedelic rock sound. Rock that was totally different from the British Invasion. Yeah, throw in some Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver, and Grateful Dead … but MAKE IT about American music. Old white man music.

    Alright, Nevermind … that’ll never happen again in my lifetime … at least until some Muslim Rock Band goes psychedelic with their middle eastern music.

        They just forgot to say his expression was of carnal, animalistic, empty, violent sexual … “love”.

  12. In reference to the video of the lady that doesn’t want to work. Great warning to prospective employers. I hated working for others. That’s why 40 years ago I became self-employed. Unfortunately you have to kiss a lot more ass working for yourself than working for others. In 40 years I only ever fired 2 clients, both because they were too effing stupid for words and I didn’t want to waste my time educating them.
