    1. “Lear to code” … bwaaaaaa hahahahaha ha ha ha
      Too funny.

But it should read: “Lear to deFRAUD the government”

    1. They should seek jobs picking fruit and vegetables. Didn’t the WaPo report there’s a shortage of fruit and veggie pickers?

      1. Since they’re no longer doing the jobs that Americans just DON’T want them to do…
        perhaps
They can start doing the jobs Americans DO need done.

        1. Yes. But they won’t, except with literal guns in their backs wielded by agents of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

If it was good enough for the “New People” in the Left’s beloved Democratic Kampuchea, it’s good enough for them.

And if forcing globalist parasites to finally do an honest day’s work for their rations doesn’t allow American family farmers to finally make a living growing wholesome, tasty produce without government subsidies again, I don’t know what can.

  1. “Ford CEO warns America is ‘in trouble.’ Car giant has 5,000 mechanic jobs paying $120K/year unfilled. Why it’s a problem”

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ford-ceo-warns-america-trouble-125900085.html

electricians, pipefitters, concrete workers, plumbers… there’s a bit of a learning curve at the start, and investments in tools. None of these jobs will be replaced by Ai in another 5 years.

No, a journalism degree doesn’t give you advanced standing here, and nobody cares if you’re “not feeling well” today, you’re not paid to think (not very often, and not for the first 2 years) but you’ll be paid to do.

    1. marc,
“none of these jobs will be replaced by AI in the next five years”
      Really? How about NEVER.
Oh, and you forgot to mention linemen who repair lines over such places as Hell’s Gate in BC.
Where is a toxic male who loves his kids and dog when you need one?
Hell, I just lined up some good dudes to take down a couple of overgrown trees in my yard.
There was a time when I would have done it myself, but I am a creaky old geezer now.

        1. That’s really interesting, PEX was not allowed in large commercial buildings in Canada. All the piping has to be in copper or cast or steel. We are only allowed to install PEX in Canada in residential construction. I’m not sure about residential high rises. I wasn’t in that market. These are all Building Code and Plumbing Code issues.

          1. I’ve installed (and have passed inspection!) of both pex A (Wirsbo / Uponor) and pex B (everybody else’s) going back to 2010 in commercial and residential towers (up to 32 levels) in Calgary, prior to that I was in wood sticks residential in Sask and Alberta. I don’t know if other provinces had or have prohibitions on multilevel concrete/steel but I do think the multilevel compressed wood fibre of +4 levels is not going to end well (for other reasons). uff.

    2. Ohhhhhhhh Mommmaaaaaaaaaaa … just think of all the toxic brake dust, heavy metals, and ewwwwww oily excretions !!! Literally COVERED in toxic Co2 carbon … every day.

      No dice.

      1. In my eclectic train of jobs throughout the years, I have been covered by all that, and I love the smell of Co2 in the morning. Hell, I am just now liking the smell of my ciggy while pouring another drap.
        Smell ya later, boys.

  2. The phrase “lear[n] to code” is such nonsense. Only a minority have the raw talent to be competent software developers no matter how much training they get, and I doubt it includes many journalists.

    1. What is your point?

You seem to think the rest of us are too stupid to know the backstory ?
So you can provide your little tidbit of useless obviousness?
Or are you ignorant of this meme and how the media brought it into being?
      Maybe you were hibernating?

      1. So John Robertson says to himself “It’s Killer Marmot. I have to come up with something snarky. Can’t just let him get away with making a post.”

      2. Still awake from Groundhog Day…

‘Lear to code’ is genius. But in 30 years, 25 year olds will read that and have no clue what was up with it.

The mammal is 30 years ahead of the curve. Already has no clue.

    2. We know. But that was their answer to miners and factory workers who lost their jobs. Sauce for the goose.

I agree that they were never as smart as they thought they were. Neither were they indispensable. An AI can churn out anti-Trump, anti-American, anti-capitalist and anti-Semitic bilge as easily as it can churn out pornography. Neither dirty talk nor the ravings of a terminal TDS case require any originality or even complex thought.

      “Orange Man BAD!”

      “NNNNNGH! Yeah baby, yeah!”

      “You’re welcome! ;)”

There will always be plenty of honest work for people possessed of common sense, a level of intelligence allowing them to leave the house without nurse, willingness to perform at least occasionally, and often invariably “boring” or thankless tasks—and most of all, the ability to accept and adapt to real change and progress in a world where the rest of us routinely outlive our employers, and occasionally our own careers.

If now unemployed WaPo hacks never managed to acquire those assets, or no longer have the skills to do something constructive that an AI can’t do—well. They can be humble enough to accept the things they cannot change and the courage to change the things about themselves that hold them back. A prerequisite for pulling that off is somehow acquiring the wisdom to know the difference.

But it’s easier to blame capitalism, AI or the Jews for your descent into genteel poverty than take some responsibility for yourself, so I won’t bet any money on the wisdom of former WaPo hacks than I can afford to lose. Neither should you, KM.

    3. This is something I know a bit about, since my job is leading low-performing software teams to high performance.

The myth that you need to be some sort of top 1%er to be a competent software developer is complete bollocks. The overwhelming majority of real-world software requires no particular special knowledge of computer science or mathematics. I’ve taken teams of programmers with nothing more than a 2 year college certificate to building the software that runs half the specialty clinics in the country.

All that’s necessary to be a good programmer is attention to detail, persistence, and an ability to learn from one’s mistakes. That last is the real reason most journalists – and most software developers – make bad programmers.

      1. I was in software development for four decades, including manager of a department, so it’s something I know about as well. And I’ve written trade-magazine articles on software engineering.

First, I never said top 1%. Those are your words, not mine.

But I also saw tons of developers who could do an adequate enough job on small-sized applications (there’s a ton of those), but who would make a botch of medium-sized applications. The problem is that complexity grows super-linearly with the size of the application, and they never could develop the skills to manage that complexity. As a result, they never got past the stage of boutique programming, which isn’t particularly valuable, They often moved on to other professions.

So that’s my take. Software development is about managing complexity, and not everyone can do it.

    4. You really are an abysmally-stupid fucking retard.

In case you really aren’t that fucking stupid, and, being a pig-ignorant fuckstain as usual, just didn’t know: “Learn to code” was the generic response shithead “journalists” and think-tank “intellectuals” gave to blue-collar workers upset about losing their jobs due to outsourcing of their manufacturing and resource-extraction employment to shithole countries with no worker protections, environmental laws, or anything else on the socialist spectrum those exact same journalists, intellectuals, and assorted “elites” considered essential conditions for any company operating here.

Using it on journalists when they get shit-canned is irony writ large.

You’re really immensely dumb, but I doubt even you didn’t know that basic simple fact, which makes your usual tedious mewling that someone isn’t being nice enough for your tender sensibilities that much more idiotic.

        1. I suggest that he have another six quick pints and show us what he can really do! But frankly, my better nature agrees with the Marmot here, I don’t see why a simple “jackass” wouldn’t suffice.

    5. You are missing the point, km.. AI writing the code, and H1-b’s cleaning it up is still cheaper and more effective than hiring these losers and training them. They’ll never even make it to the ‘raw talent to be competent software developers’ evaluation phase. Ironically, these are both causes that various media outlets such as WaPo have championed in the past when suggested the H1-b program was being abused.. I still remember the media’s callous, arrogant condescension when coal miners and oil workers were were betrayed by the MSM’s democrat masters.. ‘learn 2 code’ is what they were told when their future employment concerns were smugly dismissed.. That was then, this is now. Learning to code is becoming a non-viable career, so they will either ‘lear’ to barista, or become WaffleHouse™ gladiators.. I really couldn’t care less.
