There’s no point listening to what politicians say because the words are written by speech writers, image consultants and public relation firms. Most often the words they say aren’t honest. Only pay attention to what politicians actually do.
Ford will sabotage pretty much anyone, individuals or other provinces, while pretending to be the team captain. Eby is on team eco-nut and has no intention of allowing an oil pipeline. The maritime provinces and Quebec are dependent on federal redistribution programs and are not teammates capable of pulling their own weight. The federal government “coach” hamstrings the best players so the weak players will keep voting for them. Alberta and Saskatchewan are the all star players on the team but their coach and teammates resent them and are intentionally sabotaging all of their best plays which makes team Canada lose every game.
Alberta and Saskatchewan need to become free agents or find a team that appreciates their skills and abilities.

Eby says a lot of crap, start with “Now, I understand the desire to hold a referendum, to talk about the issues we want to talk about in Canada,” … “But to go to a foreign country and to ask for assistance in breaking up Canada, there’s an old-fashioned word for that. And that word is treason.”
Albertans advocating for separation are not looking to “talk about issues” … we all know those issues have been discussed for +120 years to no avail. We’re not spying on Canada, aiding enemies, seeking to overthrow your gov’t, or waging war or attempting to kill your stupid “Jughead” monarch.
We just want to leave your failing state, we want equal representation in gov’t, and we don’t want to pay for other’s idiocy, and we’d like to be able to sell our wares without other’s gov’t saying we can’t.
I’m not hearing from separatists in Alberta that they want to talk about Canada’s issues, they’ve had +120 years to figure out a way to offer equal treatment to all provinces and they’ve failed. Perhaps in 100 more years Canada will get their act together and have a plan which is fair to all provinces, then they can show Alberta their plan and we’ll vote on it. If it isn’t fair, or it needs to be negotiated further, that’s a sign that Alberta isn’t interested in it and we’ll vote against joining Canada. Either it is fair to all provinces, or it is not. The world should recognize from this that Canada isn’t playing fair to all provinces, and know that Canada doesn’t treat its own fairly. That is the essence of why Alberta will separate. It’s not like the west simply dislikes maple syrup. It’s gov’t which has poisoned the water.
Stop telling others that Canada is a great country while it’s demonstrably untrue.

I suspect that the Carney Liberal governments is using Eby as their proxy. Eby will be used to say the nasty things about the Alberta independence movement that the Liberals aren’t willing to say directly.
If Alberta votes 50% plus one for independence, declare independence, then negotiate. If we negotiate first we will negotiate ourselves out of independence and gain nothing.
I guess Eby could call Ukraine “treasonous” as they unilaterally separated from the Soviet Union because they decided they would not be dictate to any longer by Moscow. Ottawa is Alberta’s Moscow.
Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Czechoslovakia, USA….history is full of countries and empires being created and parts of them breaking away. The unfortunate part in Canada’s case is that it would have been relatively easy to keep Alberta from having a referendum. Alberta has been asking Canada for 40plus years to make a few reasonable changes in House of Commons and Senate representation, the equalization formula, pipelines/energy regulations and respecting provincial rights. If Alberta separates, the blame is entirely on Ottawa and the rest of Canada.
Quite the uproar over who is funding Alberta separation.
But more importantly, who is funding quebec’s separation movement?
I’d argue that Alberta funds quebec separatists through the Equalization program.
