Still Too Many

Dan Knight- New StatsCan Survey Shows Canadians Losing Faith in Parliament and Media

…just 28.3% of Canadians say they have high confidence (ratings of 4 or 5 out of 5) in Federal Parliament. That’s not a typo. Fewer than three in ten Canadians trust the institution that claims to represent them. Even worse, 40% report low confidence—the highest level of distrust recorded for any major institution measured.

Only 36.2% of Canadians say they have high confidence in the media, while nearly 30% express outright low confidence. Among men, distrust is even sharper, reflecting a growing perception that legacy outlets function less as watchdogs and more as enforcement arms for a narrow ideological consensus. Canadians see the bias. They see the omissions. And they are no longer buying what’s being sold.

  1. 28.3% is about how many people are employed by the government or rely solely on government revenue in Canada, so of course they are satisfied.

  2. At this stage Parliament is just the illusion of democracy. It’s the PMO that operates by fiat.

    1. Yes, indeed.
The parliamentary system is broken and cobwebbed,
I recall that they sat for some 72 days in 2025 and asked unanswered questions.
They also passed a budget but ignore it and do what they want (e.g., $2.5 billion for Ukraine). Was that in the budget? Likely not. Was it subject to a vote? No. Etc.
So, yes, it is apt to say that the PMO operates by fiat (Latin for “let it be” basically).
That is God like behaviour. You know, like when God said Fiat Lux….Let there be light.
Invert that, and you have Lord Carnage.
I am not sure how this inversion of, well, everything, can be brought back to Western order.

  3. Now, related question. What percentage of Canadians trust these figures from a government agency (SatsCan) that wants us to believe food cost inflation last year was only 2.8 percent?

  4. I was asked once by a gov’t dept as to what I thought of them, I was polite, though entirely negative for the experience.
I doubt that any gov’t of Canada dept. should be trusted to conduct their own survey as to the quality of their services to Canadians. That’s indicative of where they are, a simple phone call to any dept. will set the tone. Perhaps they should survey only Canadians who haven’t had any contact with the gov’t of Canada to gauge their quality, then ask those same people after they’ve “been serviced” by Canadians.

    1. Nothing like hearing the experience of a retired civil servant having to deal with the government. Especially if it is the department said civil servant previously worked for. It is an eye opener and yet said retired civil servant will often try to explain that it must have been an off day.

  5. Out here in Cowgary, our local 6PM newscast features social media trends (think cat videos) before the business report.
    Difficult to take them seriously.

  6. A similar survey on Provincial and Municipal governments would be interesting. Calgary City Council along with its failure to maintain its water infrastructure would be an interesting read. I would imagine there would be twenty per cent idiots that would still say city council and managers are wonderful.

  7. Heh,what was that percentage of eligible voters who don’t?
    40%?
Which,as Elections Canada becomes ever more exposed as an agent of the Liberal Party, will lead to the other question; What percentage of Canadians don’t know they voted?
Or that a vote was cast in their name.?
For as we are tracked, information collected and sold, those who habitually refuse to vote, usually cause they see all choices as scum…Become votes to be harvested..

  8. Losing faith, lol.
Anyone who had faith or has faith in Big government is a drooling imbecile.
