I would go so far as to say that complaints about “knife crime” are a fascist dog-whistle. How hard is it to wear a stab vest when out in public? Stab vests are affordable, stylish and surely a small price to pay to uphold diversity and inclusion.
How about chain mail?
But be sure to also wear Nomex or other flame proof garments underneath. Dousing people with gasoline or alcohol and setting them on fire is starting to become more popular.
Rather than “anti-stab” vest, I’d like to refer to this as my “anti muslim” vest.
Also a water container filled with fast acting anti acid liquid may be helpful for the women folk.
I suspected the accompanying article was from the UK as they’ve been put off lately as to naming the actual threat they feel. Their gov’t did this to them. Intentionally.
Given you are in Alberta, you need a permit for body armor, but not for historical armor, so chainmail is an option.

Stab vests are really nice… until the guy with the stabby thing pokes it into your neck.
You can buy hockey neck guards on Amazon. Together with the stab vests you’d make quite the fashion statement.
