That Should Simplify Things

Globe and Mail- Alaska tribal nations demand a say on Canadian resource projects

The Alaska legal challenge is part of an escalating effort by U.S. tribal groups to assert rights in Canada in the wake of the 2021 Desautel decision, in which Canada’s Supreme Court found that the Lakes Tribe in eastern Washington state should be considered Aboriginal peoples of Canada, given their historical use of land that is now B.C. In the years since, several U.S. groups have used the decision to assert themselves in Canadian affairs

  1. That makes sense.

If you dig around on how Britain and the United States dealt with the Oregon territory in the early 1800s, there was no clear sovereign claim to west coast lands.

History also shows very few indians lived in the interior part of what is now British Columbia. There was no meaningful social structure. Any settlements were basically a few people that were passing through the area. That is the basic reason why no treaties were signed by Britain, the United States, or Canada.

  2. Watching ten minutes of this new Ken Burns “revolution”- while George Washington was busy genociding Indians and getting rich off his slaves, the war was saved by free slaves and other Indians, somehow.

    1. Cool! PBS and Ken Burns are filming the 1619 version of America.
THIS taxpayer is thankful MY tax dollars no longer support this kind of crapola.

  3. We should just give all the land back to the Indians and then declare war against them and take it from them.

  4. Certainly the Canadian government could do a Constitutional amendment saying that no foreigner or foreign tribe can make any claim to aboriginal rights and no court can entertain any such claim. Just do it. End the worst of the stupid.

  5. The Indians can claim all this land but i wonder ifvtheyvhave enough F35s to defend it.
