Yesterday, I drove up to the northern reaches of New Hampshire. It’s a pretty area and, in fact, was once its own “country” called Indian Stream.

Never fail to please on Saturday night, thanks for the views!
I used to live up in that neck of the woods. My first day moving in an older couple showed up at my door, and I still remember exactly what they said. “Welcome to the neighborhood, young man. No bird feeders.”
A bit confused at the non-sequitur, it must have shown in my face. They both laughed, and the older woman leaned in almost whispering. “The bears love those things.” They, also, told me to get myself a hand held air horn in the event that the moose in the area got too curious. This was, also, good advice. They were great neighbors. Always personable, entertaining, and never shy about stopping in with some homemade goodies, causing me to return the favor.
But the most entertaining thing about them, was that they loved to ride horses up and down the country road that went through the area. And, one of our other neighbors was Supreme Court Justice David Souter. He may have been nominated by a republican (George H. W Bush), but had a reputation for going off the reservation and ruling with the Left. When he did this, that old couple would ride the horses down to the entrance of his driveway and just sit there on those horses until they made a nice large deposit of road apples square in the middle of the entrance. That, I was told, is a very New Hampshire thing to do.
Other curiosities in that area is a town called Berlin. A decent sized town for the state…and one in which just about everyone speaks French. Just a small pocket in the middle of the northern part of the state. Kind of weird.
Yes, Yogi?
When I lived in neighborhoods where bear traffic was common, it was entertaining observing how an educated bear dispatches a bird feeder. When a loud “thump” was heard in the middle of the night, that was usually a bear using a feeder for their personal pinata. They would bounce the feeders off the side of the house until they exploded and the feed streamed down onto the ground.
I lived in Coos County briefly in the late 1980s, in Jefferson. Great place and great people.
It can’t possibly have been called Indian Stream. You can actually spell, pronounce and comprehend that.
Great pics Robert. Always love the covered bridges.
Paid $4.09/gal. at my local “little Mexico” COSTCO … cheapest in my area. But then again … we pay the highest home heating and cooling prices in the continental USA too … and highest insurance rates … if you can even get insurance.
Oh! And diesel is $5.59/gal. at my local 76 station
Beautiful day. Beautiful country.
Nice pics!
