I can’t access the article but, if memory serves, the reason the investigation took twice as long was because the initial finding didn’t point to whitey as the perp, so they redid it. Second finding, same as the first.

Yes, the incredibly benevolent CHRISTIAN “settlers” wanted to GIVE the indigenous children the benefit of a modern education. They wanted to HELP native children join the 19th and 20th centuries. Just as millions of immigrants illegally endure a long, expensive journey to get to our “white, colonial” societies and cultures … because they WANT what we HAVE … so too, the caring/loving CHRISTIANS gave that same opportunity to native children.

So how the Truth and reconciliation commission concludes the poor, poor, native children were genocided is utter LIES. Nobody TOOK native traditions away from them … we just ADDED to the richness of these kids knowledge and skills.
PS … my grandsons are immersed in Mexican Spanish classes starting in kindergarten. No, their public school isn’t erasing their native English tongue … but … 50% of their time is spent in Spanish language ONLY. They are punished if they speak English. Huh? Sounds just like Native Residential Schools. Why? Because we’ve been invaded by Mexican and Central Americans. Invaded. And if you ever get into a fender-bender in CA … the other driver has a greater than 50% chance that she speaks only Spanish.

Canadians have been systematically gas lighted on the residential schools calumny. A genuine desire to bring education meaning reading writing and arithmetic to native children has been traduced by calling it “cultural genocide”. One can’t attend any public event without being subjected to the cringe-worthy land declaration statement. But when it comes to getting a clean water supply to native settlements, the government is completely inept. Lets face it folks, present day Canada is a tragedy of our own making.
So you want to talk about “cultural genocide”……how about we stop supporting these reserves in such a manner where the removal of our benevolence would decimate them. Hasn’t it gotten to the point where we do to much for them. We go over and above to supply them with shelter, transportation, food, medicine, heat, electricity, internet, tv, guns, ammo, free trips to Vegas….even cultural enrichment festivals, so they can feel close to “the great spirit’.
