The Doctor Will Kill You Now

The Atlantic;

The euthanasia conference was held at a Sheraton. Some 300 Canadian professionals, most of them clinicians, had arrived for the annual event. There were lunch buffets and complimentary tote bags; attendees could look forward to a Friday-night social outing, with a DJ, at an event space above Par-Tee Putt in downtown Vancouver. “The most important thing,” one doctor told me, “is the networking.”

Which is to say that it might have been any other convention in Canada. Over the past decade, practitioners of euthanasia have become as familiar as orthodontists or plastic surgeons are with the mundane rituals of lanyards and drink tickets and It’s been so long s outside the ballroom of a four-star hotel. The difference is that, 10 years ago, what many of the attendees here do for work would have been considered homicide.[…]

At the center of the world’s fastest-growing euthanasia regime is the concept of patient autonomy. Honoring a patient’s wishes is of course a core value in medicine. But here it has become paramount, allowing Canada’s MAID advocates to push for expansion in terms that brook no argument, refracted through the language of equality, access, and compassion. As Canada contends with ever-evolving claims on the right to die, the demand for euthanasia has begun to outstrip the capacity of clinicians to provide it.

There have been unintended consequences: Some Canadians who cannot afford to manage their illness have sought doctors to end their life. In certain situations, clinicians have faced impossible ethical dilemmas. At the same time, medical professionals who decided early on to reorient their career toward assisted death no longer feel compelled to tiptoe around the full, energetic extent of their devotion to MAID. Some clinicians in Canada have euthanized hundreds of patients.

  1. If it wasn’t funny, it would be a JOKE. We don’t need, we’ve never needed, Euthanasia specialists. Every RN or even rent-a-hospice Nurse has known how to arrange a peaceful, humane exit for the terminally ill facing imminent death. It’s not hard. Let’s just say … I know.

      1. Yes, your government is now the winning serial killer. TBF … the Canadian government is quite suicidal.

        1. The Canadian “government” IS terminally ill, and as much as it pains me to say, would definitely benefit from MAID.

  2. The Medi-Ghoul Industrial Complex ascending.
And I bet they enjoyed their lunches while discussing how to streamline the death of useless eaters.
First, do no harm….Ha ha ha ha ha!

OK, I will see myself out now, with another glass of wine. Have a nice day.

  3. How long before we have doctors deciding it’s time for euthanasia because Canada can’t afford to keep the ancient ones alive? Or they start encouraging you to get offed because you are burden to society due to your depression but boy could they use your organs?

They say it can’t happen. You need informed consent. We saw just how much Canadian medicine respects ethics like informed consent during the plandemic. It’s entirely safe and effective, stays in your arm, stops the pandemic, and it’s entirely your choice to take it or not but if you don’t, no job and an assortment of other onerous consequences. Oh yes we totally get how great Canadian medicine is about informed consent.

    1. yep.
and in holland they fobbed it off same b.s. ‘consent, consent, con . . . . sent?’
wasnt long news stories relatives and herr docteur calmly nonchalant proceeding
WITHOUT CONSENT OR KNOWLEDGE OF THE PATIENT

  5. The perfection of Government Run Healthcare.
You are Taxed heavily for this “Service” while you do not need it..for decades.
Always the same answer from Government and its groupies..”Free Healthcare”..
Then when you seek to get some of “That”.
It is “Sorry we cannot provide that “Healthcare” at all…But we can kill you.”
So typical of anything run by bureaucrats.
    But they can kill you…
MAID,murder by government can only make sense to idiots..
    Only to Chicken Dancers…

Death has walked amongst us everyday of our lives..
Not dying is the hard bit.
What kind of helpless creature needs a bureaucrat to help them die?

Life: Defined as:A sexually transmitted terminal disease.

ow can anyone believe this is a medical procedure or that it requires a doctor or public funding for that matter?Think about it. If this is a medical procedure, then so is an execution.

For that matter, with all the cheap fentanyl around, lots of people are offering themselves either accidentally or on purpose in a state of apparent bliss.

  7. 300 psychopaths got together to give each other tips on the best way to murder people, and they did it gleefully.

  8. Some commenters will strenuously disagree with this, but I do think there is a place for MAID. I have direct experience with 2 cases. One was a turbo pancreatic cancer that promised an agonizing month or so, and the other was the prospect of a life of ongoing pain and all options had been exhausted over a number of years of trying. In both cases there were strict protocols followed and the individuals and their families were treated with respect and dignity.

Yes, there may be cases of abuse of the system, and that is regrettable, but hopefully these are rare. Is there any process in in our society that is not abused by desperate or warped people?

    1. “Is there any process in in our society that is not abused by desperate or warped people?”

The government and its agents have never had a power that they did not abuse. Never.
The trick is to fence in, limit, that power so that its use is rare as you suggest.
Punishment for abuse needs to be heavy.

I remember when abortion was illegal. Abortion advocates promised it would be rare.
Last I read, Statistics Canada said we were having 100,000 abortions/year. That was a little over 30 years ago.
Simple arithmetic shows that we’ve murdered over 3 million innocent babies by now.

    2. At least 428 cases have been identified as violating the guidelines. That is out of the 55,800 MAID deaths between 2016 and 2023.

Not one Doctor was held responsible for this violations.

    3. MAID is wrong. I have horses and I had to put horses down. Which is not fun. I hope people suffering from what could easily be established as “post-mRNA’ vaccine syndrome” be helped more promptly. Time will tell. I WISH YOU WELL, MJB!

  9. L – Padding your university c.v. with holding office on the University of Regina Students Union, that might not carry the same status, it did decades, ago.

  10. Please explain to an ignorant American how our northern neighbor has MAID for it’s most vulnerable citizens but does not have capital punishment for murderers and child rapists.

    1. If you figure it out please let me know. Meantime I am waiting for my green card. My wife is an American and the wait time for an American fleeing this insanity with their spouse is a mere 22 months.

  11. “capital punishment”

Imagine someone like Justin Trudeau with the legal power to kill people.
Imagine what he would do to someone like Tamara Lich.

    1. “Oh you can choose not to take this but there will be consequences for making the wrong choice.

  12. They mean state sanctioned executions of the helplessand sick. Gee is that not what the nazis did before and during ww2

    1. Thats what the Nazis called the Action T4 program.
They began the program before the war and after the war started the T4 program was where they recruited SS serial killers like Franz Stangl.

  13. They mean state sanctioned executions of the helplessand sick. Gee is that not what the nazis did before and during ww2

  14. Double Ought Doktors:
… on 6 February 2015 the Supreme court voted unanimously (9–0) to allow physician-assisted suicide, stating the existing criminal code prohibition was unconstitutional because it breached the right to life, liberty and security of the person.

    Beyond Orwellian.
