Michael Zwaagstra: Time to scrap the federal EV mandate
I have known Michael Zwaagstra for 33 years. He is one of my closest friends and more importantly among the smartest men I know. He has been writing advanced policy pieces in the education sphere since 1997. He is a senior fellow with not one but two policy think tanks, the Frontier Centre for Public Policy and the Fraser Institute. His first book, What’s Wrong With Our Schools and How Can We Fix Them, is a blueprint for fixing our messed up school system. Indeed, when Bronwyn Eyre was Saskatchewan Minister of Education, she had worked on trying to address those very issues using Zwaagstra’s book for guidance.

The trouble with liberals is that what they lack for in intelligence they more than make up for in arrogance. There is no way the Lieberals will admit to being wrong and therefore will triple, if not quadruple, down on the EV mandate. The Lieberal environment minister looks like a wild eyed banshee. Don’t expect anything but further demands for more virgins to toss into the volcano.
They’ll just get rid of individual car ownership if they can because they hate our fckn guts.
There is one point that the author of the article missed. It is immoral to take money from your neighbors and fellow citizens to buy a vehicle of any kind with their monies. Just because the government mandates EVs and then robs the citizenry to make EVs more attractive does not make it morally right. Passing a law does not make socialism morally correct because legal does not imply or instantly guarantee moral righteousness.
“It is immoral to take money from your neighbors and fellow citizens to buy a vehicle of any kind with their monies.”
Ahhhh. But Canadians counter that with “Well, if I don’t take it, someone else will!”
So greed-fueled rationalization trumps ethics and concern for the future in this country.
Having the government pay for everything with someone else’s money is THE CANADIAN WAY……..
It is not about the environment, it is about making the serfs know their place.
It’s about FORCING the masses to take mass transit. But they need to increase the number of masses to improve the affordability of mass transit … and pack MORE lemmings into their unkempt trains and busses. What better way to increase the masses than to FORCE them OUT of their automobiles. FORCE them to BUY their way into elite status with an unaffordable ev.
The rest of you poor people can bike or walk to work.

Nobody said the masses were clean, or practiced good hygiene. Let me guess you’re the same kind of “white” elitist who is disturbed by noble cultures who piss and shit in the lakes?
In any event, the auto manufacturers could bring all this effin green nonsense to a screeching stop if they wanted to.
If they wanted to. Everybody get that?
And lose all those taxpayer funded gov’t handouts? Not a chance.
It’s all theater and they’re all sticking to the well understood script. The auto industry CEOs get to say, “Oh well, we tried. But your government said no. So you chickenshit little Canadians are just going to have to buy our EVs. “
Say bye-bye to the Cdn auto industry.
Trump’s bringing it home.
Carney’s a public policy zealot, but a shrewd US investor.
Cardboard Ford FAFO.
That’s it? That’s what the smartest man in the room came up with ? No numbers on how many charging stations will be needed, how many megawatts, how many generating station, tire and road wear, range versus temperature, battery replacement price and availability? I expected more.
It was an introduction. He’s an authority principally on education, but, like me, writes about other things from time to time. Calm down. Geez.
And there’s no nude models! I’m disgruntled!
And when blackouts occur in the future, (which, inevitably will happen if EVs are adopted as quickly as the government hopes,) EV charging will be banned.
It already happened in California.
