National Post- She objected to land acknowledgments. Now she’s paying the price for her heresy
“In my view, the Board’s imposition of a land acknowledgment during our school council meetings undermines the democratic process and constitutes a form of compelled speech, which I believe contravenes the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. There is no school board policy mandating its inclusion. In my opinion, the sentiments implied by the land acknowledgment, are political in nature, highly controversial, and therefore divisive and inappropriate within a government institution. And I respectfully request that my objection be noted in the minutes of this meeting.”

Sometimes displays of courage against the official narrative are contagious.
Unless they happen in Canada, then the overwhelming cowardice of 99% of Canadians shows itself, as the lilliputians gang up on the one brave soul. So much easier to bring anyone down than rise up to meet the challenge, tall poppy, beggar thy neighbour, call it what you wish-it is just cowardice, Canada’s true identity. Shithole.
This planet is my traditional land.
Here’s what I don’t get about Canadians. This is a stove top issue. It’s a very lucrative issue if addressed properly. In the US, if such an issue pops up, you end up with those politicians associated with that “district” addressing it publicly. This is especially true when the issue resonates with a significant number of constituents. This lady makes sense, and I’m pretty sure she would have a larger support base (maybe even a majority support base).
I may be incorrect about this (because the recent past is historically fuzzy on ridings/districts in the applicable region), but it is my understanding that Hamilton West—Ancaster—Dundas (federal electoral district) is now the covering district. I say it’s fuzzy because it looks like a whole lot of gerrymandering took place in that region. They folded traditionally won conservative districts into larger urban districts destined to be dominated by Liberals.
BUT, that doesn’t excuse conservative politicians in that district from coming forward and very loudly supporting this woman’s injustice. It just seems to me that there is a severe lack of pack politics going on in the great white north. Individuals like this woman get screwed over, and nothing is done to show support and offer people with similar views the protection that comes from strength in numbers. Is this a cultural nuance to Canadians, or just a lazy inept Conservative party?
Not lazy, cowed and coward. Shithole.
Come see my own yard! I have lovingly and respectfully cultivated and cared-for the MiWok ancestral lands that were doing well … nothing … before the white Europeans arrived. Now … MY PEOPLE … have created secure, safe, abodes, with a transportation, energy, clean-safe-drinking water, and human sewage infrastructure. We’ve even built schools … where we have children read and write things down. Storytelling isn’t History … that’s playtime. Things that no MiWok had even conceived of.
Their people were peeing and shitting into the dirt. They were living in the dirt like Stone Age people. They had to eat acorns … ground up and leached with water to cleanse all the toxins … and then made into tasteless pancakes. Yeah … nobody does that anymore … because it’s just nasty.
We’re doing just fine on OUR lands, that we have actually surveyed and established personal ownership of. So, thanks for the memories and ancient history … but piss off. But don’t piss in MY yard … because it’s PRIVATE property. And last I checked … no one is GIVING the school properties BACK to some random “native” who begs ownership. So piss off all you school board members who flap your white gums to assuage the “feelings” of some poor defeated indigenous people. Just useless nonsense. Politically motivated nonsense.
Good for her, and exactly why I think this country is now pure garbage. I’m stealing this from another post, you’re either a Commie, stupid or don’t get it. No other options. And corps can GFT. Stand up your yellow-bellied pieces of shit. Money to be made here you idiots.
And in typical Canuck fashion, a few of her council-mates who had said prior to the meeting that they supported her position slunk off like yellow dogs.
The list of contenders for the Ron MacLean trophy must be around the 30 million mark.
LAWSUIT.
Big lawsuit. It’s the only way to stop this idiocy.
And that wouldn’t be necessary if people stood up and spoke out. But the majority of Canadians have succumbed to the Yellow Fever pandemic.
Oh, good sweet Cripes. This is Canada, lawsuit will not succeed and be lost with costs. Shithole.
Is this a cultural nuance to Canadians, or just a lazy inept Conservative party?
Short answer: Yes.
Canadians have always been somewhat passive and deferential. In English Canada, I suspect that comes from historic ties and loyalty to Britain — Canadians are good subjects and are obedient and loyal. In modern terms, it means that they respect — and perhaps covet — authority, with a strong belief in “going along to get along” to perhaps get a bit of that authority for themselves. Some seek such authority directly through politics, while the masses seek it morally through social justice posturing. I’ve noticed that his seems to be driven by economic status rather than social class — money seems to be the strongest indicator of this passivity. I think this explains why the blue collar-types making just a little more than minimum wage tend to rebel against this model, while the blue collar guys pulling down (or who used to be pulling down) six figures at GM for putting together parts that can only go together one way tend towards group-think. The article notes that this land acknowledgement kerfluffle is happening in Ancaster — and Ancaster is populated with money. I think this results in urban and monied types tending to be more susceptible to group-think generally and wokeness specifically. This does not seem to be to be generational; it seems to really be tied to socio-economic status. I noticed that it was the comfy-couch socialists with tech, government, generally-office-type jobs, or union-guaranteed incomes who were the worst COVID enforcers and bullies, regardless of generation.
As for the Conservative Party — they’re in on it. They don’t care for power and they are not on “the people’s” side. They are just in it, when they can get into it, for their own personal gain. I believe that they deliberately threw the last election in exchange for whatever safety, security, payoffs, or we-won’t-harvest-your-family’s-organs promises China, the real owners and operators of Canada, made to them.
‘Before we get started I’d like to acknowledge the automotive engineers who gave us the Pontiac 389 TriPower V8, the Dodge Power Wagon with the 440CID big block, and of course the Ford engineers who developed the 428 Cobra Jet.’
Might as well join them instead of trying to beat them.
I’m sure there is something everyone can acknowledge, given enough time.
Mmmmm Dodge Power Wagon … what a BEAST!! Vrrrrooooom Vrrroooom!!!
Good one, Stan.
Here’s mine.
Before we get started, I would like to acknowledge all the good rockers who gave us rock and roll, from Chuck Berry to Gov’t Mule, and a sidewinding Zappa.
I listen to it all, cranked to 11, on my traditional land called the Earth.
Heya, heya. ho ho ha, eh?

Two of my three favorite engines right there. Takes me back…
That is beautiful, Stan. It brought tears to my eyes.
I could probably accept the board suspending an employee.
But NOT an elected member.
They’ve just denied a chunk of the electorate a voice in public affairs, over a political objection to what she said.
IN the US, that’s called denial of rights under color of law.
“Denial of rights under color of law” … Ohhhhhhh … so THAT’s what the entire COVID shitshow was?
But, but, but … they said it was “legal” to erase our constitutional rights … because… EMERGENCY!!
This is why we all need to head over to support jccf.ca. They are supporting this woman with legal help. I have donated to them for a number of years now. We need to work together to put these silly land acknowledgements to bed asap.
Idiots doing land acknowledgements are wilfully ignorant.
Land Acknowledgement well played in Buffalo:
https://x.com/guidogagootz/status/1921964057000587418
Good morning. Land acknowledgment: This is treaty land which means the Injuns living here made a deal to sell it off to the Crown for a lifetime of welfare. Since this land belongs to His and your Majesty, there will be no smoking, dancing with hula hoops, banging on drums and hollering like savages. Or panhandling. Now with the business at hand….
Land acknowledgers are hostages of the grievance industry and largely suffering from Stockholm syndrome. Land acknowledgements are the pathetic mantra of those self-submitting to political shaming sessions. Thanks to the group rights nihilism of the Charter, the SCOC has invented rights and entitlements in rulings which have progressively raised expectations of indigenous “ownership” of all Crown land and thus all land as such a claim would nullify all legitimacy of the Crown. Such absurdity as 96% of the population paying the taxes that support the nobility and on- reserve indigenous people without a legitimate government and reason to pay taxes is the logical outcome of the whole land acknowledgement pathology and for governing bodies to be participating is even more absurd. This kind of authoritarianism is nothing more than toxic political correctness.
