Canada’s EV mandate must be repealed, Ford Canada CEO says

Ford Canada CEO Bev Goodman said June 10 that Canada’s zero-emission vehicle mandate must be repealed as the consumer appetite for electric vehicles falls dramatically short of government requirements.

“The targets on full battery-electric vehicles need to be aligned with what customers want, and customers have spoken,” she said at the Canada Automotive Summit, hosted in Vaughan, Ont., by the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association.

CEO Goodman, “without the incentives and other enablers that will allow Canadians to go electric such as charging infrastructure, Ottawa is not positioned to deliver on its “very aggressive” targets. The same applies to the provincial EV mandates on the books in Quebec and British Columbia.”

    1. EV mandates were only to please their voters who still believe in Glowball warming. ( that, and likely their friends, the ChiComs who would fill our streets with their EV’s till the U.S.A. put their foot down and said No to that)
Can’t have EV’s till you have charging stations, and you can’t have charging stations till you rebuild the electrical distribution system.
Can’t have any of that till you have Liberals in a position to profit by installing charging stations, or Liberals who would win the contracts to rebuild the electrical system,,, they’re not quite there yet.

    2. Huh? Why do I persist in posting Baby-Boomer music? Uh … because it reminds me of when our culture and society were still SANE!

Just like a car, you’re pleasing to behold
I’ll call you Jaguar, if I may be so bold
      ‘Cause you’re my babe
      Yes, you’re my love
Oh, girl, I’m just a Jeepster for your love

  2. I just heard about a poll that states that the majority of Canadian’s believe that Israel is committing genocide against Gaza. Not surprisingly, over 60% of liberal/ndp voters believe this, while conservatives are of course the opposite. Same with global warming and EV mandates, liberals are just prone to believe things that are 100% fiction.

  3. But, But, just the other day I read that Tesla model Y out-sold Toyota Corolla as the best selling car in 2023!!

  4. At the Toronto International Auto Show last year, everything was electric. I could count on one hand the number of ICE-powered models being shown (except the supercars, which were only there as marketing anyway). Utterly ridiculous. It’s working, too. A friend of mine who just apprenticed as an electrician was seriously looking at an F-150 Lightning.

  5. I like Mustangs, but that ain’t no Mustang. I’m not sure I’d take it if it were given to me, but I sure AF wouldn’t pay for one.

  6. I can’t imagine what the actual dealers are saying about this, if I walked onto a car lot and the salesperson started to talk about E anything I’ll walk away mid-sentence it’s not going to be polite at all…
If the Ford bosses see many more of these sitting on the lots, and Canada doesn’t ditch the E-mandate, how many layoffs in Ford’s Canadian factories does it take to make headway with the #Libranos?

and… granted it’s not the “premium” … but this seems to be the local normal price range, plenty of colors to choose from, none of them near to the original posted retail rate:

  7. L – I predict that electric bicycles to be mandated soon by Net Zero Carney. This to reduce
the CO2 levels emitted by human powered bicycles, and to assist this transition pedal powered bicycles will be phased out by 2030.

China’s export of flaming, sparky bicycles is expected to reach new records. Tariffs on imported pedal powered bicycles from anywhere, except China, will be applied on an escalated basis year by year.

If this news leaves you breathless, that is not a coincidence.

    1. Why electric bicycles when they are promoting “Active transportation” for everyone, along with the “Vision Zero” conspiracy?

The government won’t be happy until we are all chinese peasants on bicycles.

    1. I will concede … some things are simply BETTER when electrified. Not all the FOLKs agree … but they didn’t even understand the GENIUS they were witnessing

Yeah … the lyrics accurately describe the pompous FOOLS ruining Canada.

You used to be so amused
      At Napoleon in rags
And the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you
      You can’t refuse

      When you ain’t got nothin’
      You got nothin’ to lose
You’re invisible now, you got no secrets
      To conceal

      How does it feel?
      Ah, how does it feel?
      To be on your own?
      With no direction home?
      Like a complete unknown?
      Like a rolling stone?

  8. Along with this government mandated transportation “choice”..every car owner will have to have a government commishioner riding along with them,to whom one must justify each excursion.
This will meet both parts of the Liberals plan.
    Reducing vehicle use.
Ensuring full employment of the useless and clueless.
We will not be voting our way out of this idiocy.
As the actions of Election’s Canada have proven in their precious little “recount” scheme.
The West will separate,we have no choice.
The East will end up eating their own..
This will happen faster,if the West leaves and drives all parasites back to Ottawa, early .

There is no “tolerating” these nags and scolds, who have such deep seated delusions of superiority.
Exile is the only nonviolent option.

  9. The targets on full battery-electric vehicles need to be aligned with what customers want, and customers have spoken,”…

Calm down Bev…that kind of radical talk will not get you invited to this year’s Net Zero Ball.

  10. If Canada continues with an EV mandate, there will be no auto industry in Canada. period. The Canadian market is too small to support multiple manufacturers already. An EV-only market would be even smaller. Absent the effective subsidy that comes from building and exporting cars and trucks, they would become even more expensive. American shareholders aren’t going to allow their companies to lose billions just to stay in the Canadian market, so manufacturing will be re-homed to the US market. Any manufacturers that choose to stay in the Canadian market will require huge subsidies to sell their products. But, the dealerships of those who leave will disappear, along with the jobs. There will be employment in an aftermarket capacity, but there will be a substantial social upheaval that comes with the erasure of billions in personal wealth. Then there’s the attendant economic losses that will stem from people being forced to adapt to decreased labor and income mobility opportunities. (Notes: According to the Ram trucks website, a new Ram sold in Canada is effectively subsidized by American sales to the tune of roughly 10% of MSRP. That’s probably the same across almost any brand you name.)
