“This one isn’t missing us.”

That would be 7-8 AM CST in Saskatchewan. Grok explainer:

The X post by Jure Atanackov discusses a significant solar event involving a full-halo coronal mass ejection (CME) from the Sun, with a predicted velocity of over 1000 km/s, potentially the fastest in over 20 years, as modeled by the SWPC WSA-ENLIL system. This CME is expected to impact Earth around 13-14h UTC on June 1, 2025, which could lead to a major geomagnetic storm.

The post highlights the rarity and severity of such events, referencing historical data where CMEs with similar speeds (e.g., >1000 km/s) have been associated with extreme space weather, as noted in studies like Cliver et al. (1983), which linked a GLE to a CME with a real speed likely over 1000 km/s after accounting for projection effects.

The anticipated geomagnetic storm could reach G4 (Severe) levels, similar to events observed in April 2025, potentially causing significant disruptions to Earth’s magnetosphere and auroral displays, with implications for electrical grids and satellite operations, as supported by research on CME interactions with Earth’s space environment.

  1. Meh. The sun has NO IMPACT whatsoever on our climate. Greta and AlGore told me! NOAA told me! That hockey stick guy told me. And EM pulses don’t do anything either. I’m not a climate denier … so I simply ignore the sun as being a constant … never changing.

OTOH … Trump may have prayed for an end to the Ukraine slaughter … and so God sent a massive CME to knock out all of Putin’s and Zelenskyyy’s drones? Who knows?

  2. Filled the gas tank and hit the bank machine…

An actual Carrington Event would really suck for about ten or twenty years, the starving fleeing the cities would overwhelm the countryside and they would try to eat every living thing in their path…

    1. My garden is doing really well. I believe our water is delivered by gravity from water tanks in the hills. Until that supply runs out … I can survive on tomato’s, cucumbers, peppers and various salad fixings. And does anyone know? Are moles and voles good eating?

      1. They are when you’re starving, but remember to eat the guts as well.

Farley Mowat wrote of his experience eating only mice in his book Never Cry Wolf. He did it to see if he could survive by only eating what the wolves of the far north mainly survived on.

At first he skinned and gutted the mice, but found he was still constantly hungry. So he decided to do exactly what the wolves did and ate the whole beast. Result: the hunger pangs went away.

  3. l never fully bought the thing about eating mice.
mice are mammals they have shit somewhere in their gut all the time.
ya eat a mouse? yer eating mouse turds.
not a good thing in YOUR digestive tract.
lve felt this way about it since l watched the movie then read the book.
